RE: Clunk line too flexible?
ORIGINAL: nonstoprc What is wrong with tygon tubing? I always use tygon inside the tank. Just make sure you replace it in one season or two.
Nothing really wrong with Tygon (if you use the high-quality stuff that doesn't harden). OTOH, you can use Viton on the pickup line and be done with it... http://www.mcmaster.com/#5119k41/=czx2le

I don't own a .55, but isn't there an arrow on the top of the piston that points to the exhaust port? Some of my other OS engines have the arrow.

I know this is OT, but I suspect Ralph doesn't monitor RCU much any more...Maybe we should start a thread on Ralph like Chuck Norris? Ralph will fix, and has fixed, any gas engine sent to him... Blind folded, with one arm tied behind his back!

RE: Kudos to Agape Racing and Hobby
My XYZ50 is running like a Rolex. Lost the Walbro and carb isolation block after a crash in a swamp. Engine was submerged over night. Got the parts I needed (carb, block, bolts, gaskets) from Jim at a very fair price and timely. Thanks Jim.

RE: SV17cc powered Aero Works 60-90 size Extra 300
Hi Wayne...again, it's uncanny how your experience with the SV17 is identical with my buddy's...One thing I noticed, however when the engine is running in a rich-sounding mid-range, there is a lot of ignition interference...The throttle rod and control surfaces were dancing to the ragged sound of the engine...He got his engine from TBM also...I'll monitor this thread to see how you're coming along...Ken

RE: SV17cc powered Aero Works 60-90 size Extra 300
ORIGINAL: willmissit I have one of these 17cc engines and cant get it to run. It starts easy with a electric starter but it sounds rich . I t want open up to full throttle without gurkling. When I tried to adjust the top end needle it finally closed all the way and the engine was still running erratically.  A friend of mine has one and is having the exact same problem. Could it be the timing or the ignition module? Always sounds rich but you cannot lean it out with the needle. Have tried both top and bottom end needles. Any help from anyone would be appreciated. Wayne
Interesting...I was helping one of my friends with his SV17...Same symptoms...Next attempt to tune the engine will be with the engine off the firewall, and on a test stand...

RE: TBM or Slimline for my 50cc?
ORIGINAL: rcfan450 This one (TBM Silent Beauty): http://www.troybuiltmodels.com/items/REPITTS50.html or this one (Chief Aircraft Slimline)? http://www.chiefaircraft.com/rcmsec/Models/Accessories/Mufflers/Slimline.html My worry with the TBM is that it'll fall apart and crack. I don't like the price of the slimline but if it's the stronger more reliable way to go, then that's what I'll do.
just wondering why you haven't considered jtec? their tf p-51 style fits in the narrow cowl reactor, etc.

RE: How to tune a DLE 55cc gas engine
ORIGINAL: jedijody ...As the engine breaks-in and the ring gets a better seal it will require a slightly leaner needle setting mainly on the low needle. The high needle won't change much at all, if it does, it wasn't adjusted right in the first place.
+1! My experience, exactly! Should be included in the "sticky" for everyone's benefit. -Ken

RE: Electrocution
LOL...I used to work for OSHA...During a routine jobsite inspection, the employer told me that one of his workers recently drilled through a wall, hit an energized line and was electrocuted! WOW. I asked him if he had reported the fatality, as OSHA regulations require. He said, "Nah, the guy was just shocked, and learned his lesson." I educated him that electrocution meant fatal - No such thing as mild electrocution...LOL...Ken

CNC milled, 7075 aluminum alloy crankcase. Low vibration. Most torque in its class. Long rod to stroke ratio. Aerobatic power curve. DA engines are designed using the latest tools and techniques, including 3D CAD and Stereo Lithography.

RE: 2 cycle oil
Ralph (RC Ignitions) has posted many times that he used Super Tech oil from Walmart...Right now, I'm using $45/gal oil that works for me...IMHO instead of hunting for the "best oil", adjusting the needles and getting good airflow to the engine are more worthwhile...Ken

RE: A123 vs. Hyperion LiFePO4
LiFePO4 and A123, what's the difference? I was wondering too, and found the answer by surfing the net... Some people tend to use the terms LiFePO4 and A123 interchangeably but there is a significant difference between the two. The fact is that A123 is a brand name for a specific type of LiFePO4 battery that incorporates nano-technology to significantly increase the current-handling capabilities. The capabilities of an A123 battery are truly impressive with a 2300mAH pack being able to deliver currents of up to 100A for 10 seconds or more without damage. That's a 40C rating. A standard LiFePO4 battery by comparison, may have only a 3-5C rating which is perfectly adequate for most RC applications but nowhere near as suited to hi-current applciations (such as electric power) as a true A123. When to use Well the answer to this is simple use LiFePO4/A123 batteries whenever it's possible. I've switched to LiFePO4 batteries for all my models now and have had absolutely zero problems. My NiMH receiver packs now sit unused in a drawer under my bench, having been replaced by some 1350mAH packs I built myself for under $10 each. My 30% Extra now has dual 2300mAH A123 batteries that can handle the nine hi-torque digital servos without even blinking. Given that LiFePO4 batteries are cheaper, smaller, lighter and better in just about every way than any of the other technologies when used as receiver pack, I'd say there's little reason not to use them.

RE: Gas Engine Fuel Clunk
+1! Hayes #249 is so flexible, it's ideal for the clunk in the 2oz header tanks of our helis. BTW, I had a "hard landing" in a swamp that sheared the wing off the saddle, leaving the nose of the fuselage submerged below the water line in the bullrush. The leading edge of the wing was at the water line, and the tail feathers were sticking straight up. The plane almost looked flyable, except for the broken 1/4-20 wing hold down bolts. When I pulled the tank, both viton line clunks had folded over to the front of the 16oz tank. Lotta negative g-forces in that sudden stoppage.

RE: Gas Engine Fuel Clunk
I use viton with dual clunks on my fill and pickup lines, and Hayes #249 neoprene with a 90-degree fitting for the vent line. With postage, the viton cost me about $5 per foot, but no more fuel system/plumbing problems. I wish viton could also cure brain farts and dumb thumbs. LOL.

RE: Best 50cc Class Motor??? (Excluding Price!!)
My favorite is slightly smaller (42cc), but it starts easily (even after prolonged storage), idles nice and low forever, transitions to full-throttle smoothly, pulls like a horse, and doesn't care if it's right-side-up or upside down. I'm running it on Mercury Marine Rejuvination oil at 50:1. Only drawback it's mounted in my El Cheapo Poulan, 18" chainsaw. -ken

RE: Engine mount question
here's one thing i do...using the main gear, i hang the fuse on a gate between my garage and patio...i secure the fuse with string to keep it from falling off the gate, and use a step stool for a work platform...the firewall is then horizontal, and it's much easier to align the engine, standoffs, and cowl...you can position the engine with standoffs to the exact location where your hub/cowl is centered, draw circles around the standoffs on the firewall, make an 'x' in the four circles, and drill...or use a template that comes with your engine...ken
