RE: Baby Bee ARF by Clancy
I have one. It IS small enough to fly indoors however mine has only seen the outdoors. In stock form, it was really lacking in power. It took a while to gradually climb high enough to attempt some stunts, although indoors that may not be much of a problem. I adapted a Razor Micro-Heli V2 brushless to the stock gearbox and powered that with a 3s1p lipo battery and I can go unlimited vertical at about 1/3 throttle. I have also built a symmetrical wing with ailerons for it so I can play around with some 3D flying. I have yet to take that one to the field… I have some pictures posted at [link=http://www.sparerib.net/pix/]http://www.sparerib.net/pix/[/link] if you’re interested in seeing more. Good luck, Ken

RE: RX Ant. Length
The formula is 2952/Freq (in MHz) = 1/4 wave antenna in inches. The wire size doesn't matter because there is immeasurable current flow in the wire. The antenna may be wound around a non-conductive form or left straight with the only change in characteristics being a slight reduction in range for the wound configuration.

RE: CELL PHONE BATTERIES
Tom91, If you are charging those batteries straight off of a wall power supply with no Li-Ion charge sensing circuit attached, make sure those batteries are outside, on a non-flammable surface and far away from anything that will burn. They WILL explode and burn. From all that I have read about it, it is VERY dangerous.

RE: Floats for a micro heli
I was thinking of that too. The plan was/is to use some styrofoam rods (probably around 1-1/2 to 2" diameter) and mount it to the skids on the Hummingbird. I haven't been able to find any styrofoam rod shapes in the local craft shops so I haven't actually tried it yet. I did buy some flat stock with the thought of turning/sanding it round but I haven't gotten around to it yet either.

RE: Futaba 6xhs
I am using that setup. I modified the GWS receiver to add channel 6 for a CP heli... No problems at all. Besides having both RX and TX on the same channel, make sure the receiver you have operates with the Futaba/Hitec IF shift and not the JR/Airtronics IF shift.

RE: Hitec 555 and Futaba 8uas CCPM
The pitch servo for CCPM is usually on channel 6. Unless you can change the assignment in your TX, the 555 won't work.

RE: Dragonfly main motor alternatives?
I have been using a 6V Graupner Speed 300 for months. It's still going strong. Rather than re-time the thing, I just hooked up the wires backward (red-black, black-red) at the motor. Probably isn't completely optimum but it doesn't seem to suffer either...

RE: Fead Dragonfly Li-Poly?
Yes. I had to move the Li-Polys a little forward to maintain CG. Work out well however. Set at that angle (which it just naturally falls into), the batteries tuck nicely under the canopy. Reducing the weight of the heli also makes the bird a little more responsive and easier to fly. I am using one of the little cheepie chargers. I couldn't find the exact one but there are several choices available from http://www.hobby-lobby.com/chargers_lipoly.htm, http://www.b-p-p.com/apache2.htmor http://www.helihobby.com/html/batteries.html

RE: Fead Dragonfly Li-Poly?
A 2 cell Li-Poly pack (2s) measures 8.4V. Just right for our little birds. Here is how I mounted my Li-poly pack: http://www.sparerib.net/pix/batt1.jpg. Many of the hobby suppliers that advertise on this board sell li-polys and chargers for them. http://www.helihobby.com/ comes to mind as one but there are many other places.

RE: Fead Dragonfly Li-Poly?
jarose, For charging a 2-cell pack, a 12 volt power supply should be sufficient. I use a 12V 2A bench supply for my 2-cell packs and it works just fine. Look at http://www.mpja.com/listitems.asp?dept=3&main=1 for a good selection at reasonable prices. A 3-cell pack would require at least a 15V supply...

RE: Humming Bird goes outside.... (then bits fall off...)
I had the same thing happen one time. I used a small drop of CA glue on the replacement. So far it is holding fast. I do check it periodically just to be sure however. Ken

carbon fibre
Carbon fiber is strong however it is brittle if it's properties are exceeded. The stuff I got from the kite shop appears to have linear fibers(all laid in a row from end to end) where as the stock stuff doesn't seem to have any definition as far as how it was laid up (reason I think it is some sort of plastic). I cut my carbon fiber rods with an abrasive cut-off wheel in my dremel and touch the ends up on a sanding disk. The kite shop also sells fiberglass stock in most of the same dimensions. That may be less brittle although probably a little more flexible size for size...

carbon fibre
There is carbon fiber and there is plastic (of one sort or another). To replace my landing gear struts, I went to a kite shop and bought some 2mm carbon fiber rod. This stuff seems tougher than the stock stuff and I'd highly recommend it. The stuff that came with the training gear is probably plastic.

I believe he is talking about changing the rudder from right to left stick. The only approach I can think of to fix the aileron stick is to go back through your work. Heat may have melted a couple of wires together, causing the problem you are experiencing....

How did you mount your Li-Polys on your HB??
If you scroll a little further down the page on the link provided above, you'll see how I mounted my Li-Polys. My canopy fits fine and you can't even see the battery when it's on. Better yet, it adds NO weight. A couple of #8 rubber bands holds it all in place instead of the "birdseed" holders. I have had to put a small drop of light oil on both ends of my tail motor before. I have had the bushings dry out (or collect enough dust) that the motor couldn't reach full speed. You might also want to check the gyro gain although if it works okay for the first 30 secs, it may be alright.

Main rotor and Tail rotor balancing on Hummingbird
One thing I did differently was balance the flybar paddles before I balanced the main blades. Remove the main blades then check the balance of the remaining assembly. Once satisfied, replace the main blades and repeat the balance procedure.

Feda Pitch Problems
Well, full left stick should stop the tail motor (with the tail pointing toward you). Left stick allows the tail boom to swing to the right turning the canopy to the left. Something sounds odd with your setup.

Good. Then try this: http://www.rcuniverse.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=956784&forumid=185. BTW, no. You don't jam the throttle. Ease it up and gradually lift off. A little bit of right roll usually needs to be added as it lifts off of the ground..

Li-Polys
Simbo, You might check the gear mesh (back lash) between the main rotor motor and the big gear. Heck, check the mesh of the tail rotor too. If the mesh is too tight, it will put a lot of extra load on the motor(s). A small crash like you had may be enough to shift the motor slightly and cause that sort of problem...

Got my HB yesterday!! Some questions
I had to balance the blades on mine. Actually, the tail rotor, the main paddles and main blades needed balancing. I did this by disengaging the motor(s) from the driven gear(s). Hold the heli so the blade in vertical and see which blade is heavier. Place a small piece of electrical tape on the lighter blade until it all levels out. To balance the paddles, remove the main blades then proceed as above. Remount the main blades when done and repeat the process.

The eTech 1200 (2s) is indeed lighter but not so much so that it'll throw the balance way off. I'm using a pair of those right now and they are great. I would imagine a 2s-2p pack would be too heavy. The 2s pack mounts on the front end of the battery rails and tucks up nicely under the canopy. The decrease in weight does help flying too. I'm getting 20 or more minutes of flying time. Worth the money and wouldn't go back!
