RE: BACKUP/Redundant batteries
I have the same switch Pablo has. It is a PowerBox Sensor. [link=http://www.powerbox-systems.com/e/powerbox_systeme/powerbox_sensor/start.php]http://www.powerbox-systems.com/e/powerbox_systeme/powerbox_sensor/start.php[/link] It acts as a redundant setup diverting power to both outputs in case one battery goes out. Otherwise it acts as 2 independent regulator switch systems. I use mine with one output to power the Rx the other to power my CDI. If the RX battery is unplugged the CDI battery will power both the CDI and the Rx with no interruption. The batteries drain independently so you could keep a back up fully charged. I also have an EMS Ultimate Battery Backer. It does not work well with my Spektrum radio system. When I unplug the main battery there is a momentary lag until the Rx powers up with the back up battery. This probably would be okay in an emergency but I decided to go with the PowerBox instead. RE: Chattering servo, please help
The chattering stops even if you disconnect one of the servos on the other wing and hence into another servo port on your Rx? It sounds like you've really isolated everything. I would check with Horizon at this point. One other thing, try holding the Tx several feet away from the airplane.

RE: ys175
I think that the braided cable is only for electromagnetic shielding to prevent RF interference. There should not be any problem with it touching the header. Mine touches the air intake tube and doesn't cause any trouble.

RE: Antenna Position as Far as the Planes of Said Antennas
90 degrees apart is the rule and if you have three antennas then you have your vertical component, otherwise with only 2 antennas they will always be in one (parallel) plane. If you have more than 3 antennas then you position it at 45 degrees. Video says 3 inches apart minimum. Here's Horrizon's video [link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXFfJUGUH_U]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXFfJUGUH_U[/link]

TM1000 RPM Telemetry from CDI Module/Hall Effect Sensor
I read in a Model Aviation article that the columnist was able to tap into the CDI to hall effect sensor connection in order to read the RPM for the telemetry system TM1000 for the Spektrum DX8. Does anyone have any specific instructions on how to do this? I am flying with a YS 170 DZ CDI but I think the setup would be the same for any CDI system motor.

Here is a video of A.C. Glenn landing Mike Williams plane. Mike took off and had no aileron control and quickly hollered for AC's help who was able to successfully land the plane. Mike was able to compete with the same airplane the next day. Quite impressive. [link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTPjSr53P9w]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTPjSr53P9w[/link]

RE: DX8 Gimbal failure
Turnaround times at Horizon are very quick. I returned my DX8 to replace the gimbal potentiometer with 7 working day turnaround not including shipping time. Call horizon to get the current estimated time.

RE: DX8 servo twitching
I had the same problem with my DX8 except the rudder was twitching with throttle. My other models had the same twitch so I knew the problem was in the Tx. I sent it to Horizon and they replaced the gimbals under warranty. No more twitching.

RE: Lost a plane today
Mpizpilot, Sorry to hear about the crash. I would take all of your radio gear including servos, switches, batteries, wire extensions and set this up on the ground and perform some range checks to see if you can determine a cause for the crash. I am surprised that you were getting HOLDS with a Tower Trainer, with no ignition, no carbon fiber or other RF shielding material. The 4.8V battery is within the RX requirements and there should not be very high current drains with a Tower Trainer, but see if you can check the voltage with the system on moving the servos. If you cannot determine the cause of the problem I would ship all of this equipment to Horizon to see if they can diagnose a problem. I had something similar to me happen. Horizon found the problem to be a corroded fuse contact in the TX. I had been storing it outside in my shed, and I live in Houston :( I store inside now:) Keep us posted on what you find out. Good luck, Keven

Charge Beast 3D w/ Equinox Balancer
Here is my charging setup for my e-flite Beast 3D using my Electrify Equinox with Triton charger. Use the 2S adapter that comes with the Equinox and a servo extension. Note: Incorrectly connecting a lipo battery can cause fire/explosion hazards. If you are not confident with your skills then simply purchase the E-Flite charger for your battery. 1. Use female x male servo extension. At the male end of the servo extension, remove the black plastic to expose the metal sockets. Connect this end into the 2S adapter that comes with the Equinox. Note that the black and white wires are reversed between E-flite and Electrifly (see the picture where I have the Electrifly battery right beside the connector and you will notice that the white and black are reversed). 3. Remove shell cover on female end of the servo extension to expose pins. Rearrange pins on servo connector to match the color of the e-flite battery, i.e. white in the middle. This female end with pins exposed will fit into your e-flite battery (with an acceptable amount of mismatch). Make sure not to connect your battery until the other end is connected to the 2S adapter or you will short your battery! Ready for charge.

RE: Transmitter Storage - Fuse Contact Corrosion
The Horizon man said the 3s vs 0.25s receiver reboot was after "brownout/failsafe". After reading Zor's post this must mean Rx power interruption. In that case my airplane would not have been saved had my Rx had the latest firmware update. And to test your Rx firmware you should turn the Rx switch on and off and check how quickly it reboots not the Tx. If it takes several seconds, send it into Horizon. It's still a good thing to get updated. Thanks for checking with your system Zor.

Transmitter Storage - Fuse Contact Corrosion
After a 12 month storage of a JR 9303 system in a climate controlled environment, I cycled both Rx and Tx batteries and checked the voltage prior to the first flight. I also performed a range check with the motor running. I had an expensive pattern setup that was my first real build project so I took special pride in it and wanted to make sure everything was perfect for this flight. On the second flight the plane stopped responding in a down line. I had time to turn the transmitter on and off with about 2-3 seconds until impact, as a long shot solution. At the very last moment I wished for a miracle, but she went straight into the trees. After recovering the airplane almost all the radio components were intact except for 1 servo extension wire that was severed. RX Battery voltage was 6.10V (no load). TX voltage was 10.9V. A range check was again performed and everything passed. I boxed the entire radio system, servo wire extensions and all, and shipped them to JR (Horizon Service). It turns out that the fuse contacts had heavy corrosion around the contacts. The technician mentioned that he could tap on the transmitter and get it to momentarily turn off. I also learned that you can update the firmware in the JR Receivers for free by sending them to Horizon. I was using a R921 Rx purchased with the system in 2007. Apparently the new version firmware can reboot from signal interruption in 0.25 seconds whereas the old firmware requires a 3 second reboot. Since I was suffering from only a momentary power interruption this alone would have saved the aircraft with only an odd glitch noticed in flight which could have been subsequently troubleshot. You can test your system by turning the transmitter on and off and checking how long the system comes back to life. I suggest sending your RX into Horizon if it requires the 3 seconds. I'm not sure if unplugging the Tx battery would be worthwhile for long storage periods to prevent corrosion, but I'm sure it couldn't hurt. The JR technician did not think it was a problem. Keven

RE: YS 160DZ, o-rings popping pushrod cover
I found out why I kept blowing o-rings after talking with Richard (YS Parts and Service). He suggested that I check my cowl clearance to see if the pushrod cover is bumping into it when the engine is rocking out. My cowl was fine, but I noticed that one of the engine mount bolts had vibrated loose from the firewall. I've had about 15 flights on it since then and it seems to be fixed. Keven

RE: YS 160DZ, o-rings popping pushrod cover
F3A Nordic, I am having the exact same problem as you. Everything is running fine and then, Pop, the engine goes lean but still runs. I blew the upper pushrod o-ring twice this weekend. One weird thing about my engine is that it is missing a Head gasket. Maybe this is the cause? Did you find a solution to the problem? DZ170 PM YS 20/20 Fuel 18.1 X 10 Prop

RE: Composite-ARF Integral, kinda build thread
Have any of you fellas mounted a [b]YS Super Mount[/b] onto an Integral? I am running a YS 170 DZ, Hatori #822 Header & Hatori #821 Muffler I can't seem to find any pictures of this setup on any models other than the Oxai planes which have a build in lengthwise CF mount. Any pictures of this mount setup would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Keven
