RE: 15C or 20C pack???
Thanks so much for your help. Let me get a few things straight. If I use a seperate pack for receiver, then I do not need a BEC. If I am using the lipos to run the servos, I do need a BEC. That would make sence!!! But when I hook up the ESC to the trottle channel, will it not automaticly be using the lipos? Someone said to cut the red wire from the ESC and the power will not go through the receiver. Is this all I have to do? There are 4 digital servos, so would it be best to use a receiver pack? Also as far as the watts, I would be using two packs in parallel, so two 11.1v would be 22.2 and/or two 14.8's would be 29.6volts. If I read corectly to get watts, it is amps X Volts, right? So 22.2 volts X 45 amps= 999watts. And 29.6v X 45amp=1332. Am I doing this right? I also heard or read somewhere for 3D electrics you need about 150watts per pound of airplane. If that is correct, then a 6.25lb plane should 3D on about 938watts. Boy....am glad I paid attention in math class, and someone said "but we'll never use this in the real world." Again thanks for your help Kevin

RE: 15C or 20C pack???
Sorry about that. I am looking at using the setup that is on Skyshark RC using the Lightning 75 Brushless Outrunner with the following info: Lightning 75 Type: Brushless Outrunner Li-Poly Cells: 6 - 8 Voltage Range: 8-36 RPM per volt: 380 Max. efficiency: 80% Max. efficiency current: 30 - 60amps Max current capacity: 70 amps Watts: 725 - 1700 Weight: 14.4 oz. Dimensions (DxL): 1.94 x 2.55 Shaft diameter: 8 mm Lead wires: (3) 12 ga. click [link=http://www.skysharkrc.com/PDF/L75-instruct.pdf]here[/link] for more info on the motor I will more than likly use the 4cell 5000mah (X2) lipos with it and the [link=http://www.skysharkrc.com/PDF/ultra80.pdf]Ultra 80[/link] speed control. Or would I be better using two 11.1v 5000mah. If the two 3cells would do the hard 3D that I want, it would save some weight and $$$. Also, do I still need a BEC? The ESC does not include one. Should I run the servos off a seperate pack like a 6V? I have done the math and the plane should weight 6-6.5lb depending on the battery selection. The 11.1v weights 13.1oz and the 14.8V is 17.2 so there is only a 8oz difference. Thanks Kevin

15C or 20C pack???
I am converting a Laser 3D kit to electric (like the U-Can-Do .46) and looking for the best setup motor to batteries. SkyShark RC has some great prices of lipos [link]http://www.skysharkrc.com/shop/?shop=1&cart=137602&cat=24&noCookiePassThrough=Y&PHPSESSID=04412437ea5d9bd1fe1561ef58533fc5[/link] but they are 15C. I want to do 3D with this plane. Do I need 20C or will 15C do? I am looking at eh 11.1v 4000-5000mah packs. Anyone using these? Will they last? Thanks Kevin

Laser 3D setup?
I came across an old kit of a Laser 3D, it has been hanging in the hobby shop for a few years. It was the only non-arf in stock. They gave it to me at 50% off just to get rid of it. Anyway it is almost done. I will be converting it to electric and my question is what setup should I look for, motor, batteries voltage. The plane is alot like the U-Can-Do .46 and should be around 6lb. I like the AXI motors, not a big fan of E-flite. AXI has the 4120 and the 4130. Is the 4130 overkill or can a 4120 hover at half throttle? Also, I rather have two packs wired together then one 22.2v pack. Can you use two different cell packs, if so, do the mah have to be the same? Thanks Kevin

Don Smith mustang 112"
OK guys, I just picked up the Don Smith 112" Mustang kit. I still need the plans and all the glass stuff for it. This will be my first giant scale project. I know I should have started with something smaller but I figure I will take my time and do it right. I started to look in RCU for Smith mustangs. I was supprised I did not find much. A lot of people asking questions but not any build threads. I checked RCScalebuilder but nothing on the stang. Is there something about this kit that I don't know? If you have built one or know someone who has, please I will take any help I can get. It will be a while before I get started on it. I have to finish up some other projects first. Please post any pic's you have and what should I look out for. Also, what retracts, engine, servos, are you using. Thanks in advance. Kevin

RE: JOE NALL 2007 - ONLY 6 DAYS TO GO!
I am already packed and my vacation time has been aproved!!!! This will be my third trip. When my son turned one, we started the tradition of going every year. I now have another boy which this will be his second trip. He was 3 months old last year when we went. Sorry to hear that you hate Nall so much DR1 but like you said, its not your cup of tea. Big crouds of 3,000 or more, with giant aircraft, great fellowship, good friends, great buying and selling, kick ass flying, and great food is not for everyone. I also do not fly at Nall, I am too busy looking at all the cool stuff and finding great deals to blow my hard earned money on. It is great how the "Celebrities" of R/C are just chilling out and you can just chill out with them and chat. I learn so much stuff every year.

Dear Mr. Liberator, I did not bring this subject up for discussion on this thread nor would I ever want to start a thread on this type of subject. The only purpose of bringing this up is, as I said, to keep these people in our prayers. Full scale pilots are our fellow fliers. I have tons of respect for our full scale partners. Unless anyone has positive things to say, there is no need for a responce, just prayer. Thank You Liberator for your last statement : "Regardless those folks will be in my families prayers." Kevin

RE: Never play chicken with a bomber*video*
I would like to take a moment to be very serious. A VERY tragic thing happened here in Alabama today just a few hours ago. We were having our annual full scale air show and there was a fatal crash involving 4 people. One of the planes that was giving air rides stalled on takeoff just at the end of the runway. The pilot, a man, and the man's two sons all were killed in the accident. I don't know any details of what happened to the plane or why it stalled, but if you could all keep these family's in your prayers, it would be helpful. Most of the pilots that fly in the air show also fly models in our club. This will of course hinder all air shows from now on. It is very rare that there are any accidents at air shows but when they do happen, they seem to last forever in the media. Kevin

RE: Never play chicken with a bomber*video*
OK, OK, OK. I have read all and I new this video would not take long to get around. Yes I was there and saw everything. This was at the Prattville, AL big bird fly-in and the B-25 WAS over 5 years old and he has had tons of hours flying it. For whatever reason this morning one of his choke servos was reversed and the engine was not running good. Being it has been a five year trusty plane, he got it started and flew anyway, first mistake. He taxied out and the engine died again and the two men you see went out to start it again. He took off and got 3/4 way around and engine died again. The rest as you see is on video. He had a bruised leg but no bad cuts. It was amazing he did not get chewed up by the prop or killed. He had control of it just fine and set up for a landing, but as you can see, it snapped just before touchdown.

RE: Precision Aerobatics 35% Extra 330L Build and review
It should be obvious to any pilot who fly's a larger plane that ALL firewalls need to be reinforced. Even with a well balanced prop and spinner, a gas engine creates lots of vibration. I fiberglass mine and have had no problems. Greg, with your 25 years of experience, surly you know this! Look at the bright side...........it could have been the wings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) LOL

Today I got to fly with Frank Noll. He flew the Extra 330 and put it to the test. He must have done every maneuver in the book and some that are not in the book. I was very proud to hear Frank say the CG is good and the trim as well. I just need a little more up elevator and throttle curve. It was very cool to see him fly my plane. And we all love to see that big orange Carden Yak down on the deck right in front of us. Kevin

RE: Precision Aerobatics 35% Extra 330L Build and review
Originally I had all three batteries on the motor box. After the 5th flight, I noticed one was a lot lower that the other. One was 7.2 and the other was 8.0. I knew that was not good. The next time I went to charge it went to 0.0 and TBM said the only way they will read zero is if they are over charged. Then my ignition read 7.4 and after three hours of charging it read 7.3. I will send the charger back to Duralite and the batteries back to TBM, he will check them for free to see if they are still good. As far as the straps go, there are some included in the kit for strapping the fuel tank. I just used what was left over to strap the lipo's where they are now. I had to add about 8oz of lead to the nose. I did not want to have the lipo's that close to the motor because of the heat. With Lipo's you never know!!! I did have to cut the cowl out on the bottom, I have standard mufflers. Kevin

RE: Precision Aerobatics 35% Extra 330L Build and review
As far as the opening over the landing gear, I just covered it with extra covering without filling it in and it works just fine. I was using the TBM Li-ions but two of them went bad after my first six flights. TBM said it is the charger which is the Duralite Plus 3+1. So I just put in two Lipo's and a Nicd for ignition and I have had no problems on the last 20 flights. I went with a heaver spinner so I would not have to add nose weight. If you look, there is also the smoke pump in the box. Ladawg, if you want any pic's just let me know. I hope these help. kevin

I now have 16 flights and NO sign of breaking. I have not pushed it too hard, but it harriers, hovers, floats, elevators, knife edge, and rolling circles better than anything I have flown. When I get the new wings I will fly it harder. I will try to mesure and take a pic of where I put the pull-pull exits later. Now that the fix is out, the posts on this forum is slowing down. If I was not working so much, I would have hundreds of flights by now.
