RE: SafetyNo Joke (My confession)
Well...my accident talked me out of the hobby. I gave all my stuff to my brother, who was bedridden last year with a broken pelvis. The hobby lost its lusture. Nobody's fault but my own. I waited a year. I still had a new plane in the box that I got for Xmas. He got it new for his birthday. I was really looking forward to flying that plane. I had made a leap in confidence, not much more in skill at the time that I had sustained the injury. This is my first post since the last one a year ago. It's been great, but I'm done. Thanks for the community that I felt here. Good luck. James Wasilchen

SafetyNo Joke (My confession)
I guess safety with model airplane engines was of concern to me. When they are running at top speed, they seem and sound vicious. I have been mostly electric. I have a couple of nitro airboats and nitro buggy. About six years ago, two of my fingers met with the prop of one airboat at a fast idle. I got some stitches on two of my fingers in the emergency room. I was good to go in a couple of months. I thought I was done with all that. I thought I learned my lesson. As my years have advanced, I've learned I don't have to take extreme chances/risks to enjoy myself. I don't have to dance with the devil. So my life has been relatively subdued with a few activities that do not require an investment of life and limb...so I thought. On January 1st this year I was breaking in a new small block nitro engine with tapered cylinder. So as per some of the expert opinions I have read here, I invested in a bottle of caster oil to help with the break in of the engine. I had the engine running pretty good in the garage, but there was too much smoke. I moved it to the driveway on its test stand. No, it wasn't running. I did start it up again; to say the least, I was distracted. This time the five fingers of my right hand met with the prop doing about 12000rpm. (Breaking in a tapered bore engine means it has to be run at top speed.) My thumb was broken in two places. (The nail has almost grown back). It got lots of stitches, as did all my fingers. The tendon on my pinky finger needed to be reattached. I still go to physical therapy. I'm about to get my fourth cortisone shot in my neck to counter nerve damage. I sit here typing this post, and my fingers of my right hand are talking back to me. Yes, at the time of the incident, I thought I was being safe. Yet I can't even call event an accident. It was totally preventable. It was only me and one stinkin' engine of half a cubic inch. Well...I know now what that engine can do. Why do I write this now? I have been too embarrassed to do it until this moment. Despite my foolishness and embarrassment, there still a lesson for me and perhaps others to get by my making my incident known. I was not vigilant. The engine did not care. It only serves its function, doing what it can do. I don't know that I'm going to stay with prop models. I don't know that I can trust myself anymore with that aspect of the hobby. I need to use my hands for other things. (You can guess.) I also have other avocations that require the use of my hands. My brother just had his pelvis crushed six ways to Sunday by a back hoe. That event was an accident. My incident was not. thx Jim PS: I guess I feel better having shared the aforementioned.

RE: OS 65AX weight issues
Lnewqban: I guess the crankshaft thread size ought be considered: the OS 65AX has a thread size of 5/16-24. All the smaller OS engines, .55 or less, have a crankshaft thread size of 1/4-24 or less. thx Jim

RE: OS 65AX weight issues
ORIGINAL: ThumbSkull Did you really think it would be lighter than a .40 size engine? OS lists it at 17.5oz without muffler. If you do need a 65 that light, you'll have to buy a [link=http://jettengineering.com/engines/bse40.html]Jett engine,[/link] the only one anywhere near that weight.
ThumbSkull: I guess I did...at first. I am familiar with Jett; it's just the price of a Jett. That small block .75 really looks appealing. I'm getting the OS .55 instead. thx Jim

OS 65AX weight issues
Tower Hobbies has it listed at about 17 and a half ounces complete, including muffler. In reality, it's five ounces heavier. I returned it because of the weight. Tower's weight spec's are incorrect. thx Jim

update question
Am I able to update the Spectra 2.4 RF Module? I downloaded the software for the HPP-22, and there seems to be no reference for that module, which I intend to use with the Optic 6. Now I was able to update the Optima 7 and Optima 9 receiver modules with no problem. The transmitter portion of that software makes no reference to that referenced transmitter module. thx Jim PS: I found it...under "Etc". [:D] No need to respond. thx Jim

I want to start a p***ing match...
Gosh, are the French that much better at pattern? It seems as if the f3a competition is in Europe, Americans don't stand a chance. I don't know much about international pattern events, but it looks as if the fix is in. I'd just checked on the results of the competition in Portugal. thx. Jim PS: Slap me around a little; throw cold water on my face. I may have taking too much of my medication.[:)]
ORIGINAL: alan0899 G'day Mate, Did you read page 30 of your manual, model selection? It is all explained.
Allan: Been there; done that. It still won't make the change to helicopters. I won't say the transmitter is faulty; that remains to be seen. My best guess is that the instructions are slightly faulty or lack details. I've even followed p.54, which replicates p.30...almost. G'Day to you. Jim

It may be naive, but I still want to know....
....which transmitters other than the Hitec Eclipse have "conditional" programming. It is programming that allows the pilot to program for special conditions or circumstances of flight. On the Eclipse, conditional programming allows the pilot to program "individual sets of trims, dual-rate settings, and exponential values". thx Jim

RE: using video gallery
Marc: It certainly may be a system problem on my computer. It's like finding a needle in a haystack. So I just thought I'd ask. The video gallery I'm referring to is in regards to the planes you and your associates have evaluated. It's any videos that are for Windows Media Player (wmv). I have WMP 11. I have reinstalled it several times to no avail. I guess when I get Windows Vista and have to start over the problem gets fixed. thx Jim
