RE: Thunder Power Pro Lite problem
I contacted the manufacturer once more and they told me to mail them my battery and they would see what they could do. They told me they would contact me once they determined the problem. Ten days passed and they never called, so I called them and we had an interesting conversation. I spoke with Tim who was extremely polite. He said that the #3 cell on my pack was below normal voltage and he could not get the pack to charge to normal voltage. He told me it could be from overcharge, overdischarge, overheating, impact shock, or a variety of other causes. He told me it would have been dangerous to try to cut and replace the cells myself. He told me the board looked OK and was not sure why it had the problem. Nevertheless he sold me a replacement battery for 1/2 price and I bought an additional one at a 15% discount. I'm not sure if this was satisfactory warranty work or not. I guess I am thinking of it like a pro-rated warranty. In that case I did not do too bad. OH, he also charged me $5.00 to ship it home to me. Timeframe: I mailed away the original pack on October 29. I called and spoke with Tim on Wednesday, November 8. I have not received my batteries as of today. I hope this provides you with some service incite. Paulb. PS- I will continue to pay the exrta to get batteries with the computer board in them.

RE: Thunder Power Pro Lite problem
There are no balancing wires on this battery. The charger I have is built to charge this battery. It was bought from RCToys.com. The battery reads 10.3 when it is low, but only 12.0 when charged. The other batteries read 10.3 when low but 12.67 when full. The reason the price of this battery is so high is because of its high discharge rate. It is 15 to 17C. Is there a way to balance the battery without the balancing wires?

Thunder Power Pro Lite problem
I use Thunder power Pro Lite 1320mah batteries to fly my DF electric helicopter and one of them has recently started acting strange. It only gets 5 to 8 minutes per flight instead of 10 to 12 that I get with my other batteries just like it. And when I land after using it, the battery is MUCH hotter than they normally get. I think I have a undercharged or over charged cell in there somewhere. The battery manufacturer will not help me since the battery is over 90 days from date of manufacture. This battery also has some sort of circuit board inside the pack. Is it possible to cut open the pack, isolate the defective cell, then replace it to restore the original performance of the battery? If so, how do I find another cell pack with all the identical specs of the original? Would it even be safe to make this repair myself? I'm at a loss here, but dont want to toss a battery with less than 30 cycles on it that would cost $70 to replace. Thanks, paulb.

RE: MY thunder power DF battery
Update: The guy at RCToys told me to discontinue the use of my charger if it was putting more then 12.6 volts into the battery. I tested it this evening once it had finished charging but was still connected to the charger. It showed 12.70 volts. When I disconnected the charger, I tested the battery and it said 12.02 volts. This sounds weird to me. Anyone know why? I know I am full of questions. I just wish someone could offer some answers.

MY thunder power DF battery
I have two of those 1320mah 3cell batteries and one of them is acting weird. OK, both of them are acting weird, but one might be dangerous. I have only had a DF for a little over a month and am now getting good enough to fly it for a whole pack without landing. Is this bad on the batteries? I always let them cool before I charge them back up , but just recently they both have started getting just a little bit rounded on the top of them when they need charging. Once I charge them they are flat on top again. I am very careful to land the DF once it requires more than 60% throttle to hover, so I dont think Im running them down too far. When I put the meter on them they say 10.3. OK now the weird part. Just this past week, one battery has had a noticable change. One of them does not last as long as the other. In fact it only lasts about half as long. And when I get finished using it, this battery feels VERY hot on the edges near the bottom. It is not the board in the battery thats heating up, I think it is the bottom cell. It also smells a bit burnt after a good flight too. From my limited experience I would say that one cell is out of balance. I thought these batteries would not get out of balance. I called RCToys and Thunder Power. No one wants to help. What am I doing wrong?? How long should it take these batteries to recharge? It takes mine like 3 hours each. So I know they are not getting charged too fast. Is it NECESSARY for me to land the DF half way through a discharge and let everything cool down?? Someone has to know more about this than me. Is continuing to use this battery with one hot cell dangerous? Can it be fixed? Sorry for the long post. **sigh** Paulb.

RE: need help with my DF please!!
There was definately a drop in motor speed. It was no more than 20 feet away from me at the time and I could hear the change. I was just talking with my wife today about your other post about the hover drop and how sometimes it would fall and sometimes it would rise under the same amount of throttle, and she has noticed that phenomenon as well as I. I have not decided whether perfectly stable flight is important enough to send away the board, be without my DF and pay $50. Unless the problem worsens I'm just going to keep it as is. paulb.

RE: need help with my DF please!!
Sky, you are right about the resistors being very small. I dont have any special equipment and the only electronic knowledge is what I have learned as a HAM Radio operator. Anyway, all I did to bridge the resistor is put a long skinny lump of solder across the resistor so that it contacts the board on both ends. Voila. Problem solved, well at least that problem solved. I now understand why they use that resistor in the first place. I am now getting anywhere from minute to quite considerable radio interfearance on that particular rotor. Sometimes it makes the DF shudder a bit, but one time it dropped 2 feet in the middle of the air and then recovered. That was SCARY. Paulb.

RE: Only two rotors spin?
Hey guys, Right after I bought my DF mine was having the same issue. Only 2 rotors were running until I got to higher throttle. This was because two of my motors were not precisely level and I had the trim almost all the way to one side on the left stick to compensate. Consequently only 2 rotors spun to compensate for the other 2 that were spinning at an angle. I just leveled the motors and then slid the trim back to the middle. PRESTO it was fixed. All rotors spin relatively equal. I called Spectrolutions last week and they told me that the gyros were not built to work at very low throttle therefore (low current) and to expect a little inconsistancy in rotor speed until I gave it enough throttle to get it light on the skids or higher. I hope this helps. PAulb.

RE: need help with my DF please!!
UPDATE: The problem came back and I called Spectrolutions because I was sure I was going to have to ship away the board. They told me to bypass resistor #r29 and see if the problem goes away. I did this and the problem has been gone for a week. They told me that on my board that the #r29 was on the edge of the board near one of the landing supports and that when the board gets flexed the resistor breaks and gets a small crack that is not noticable with the human eye, but could cause this intermittant problem. I bridged the contacts on both ends of the resistor and it is fixed. He said this was a common problem and they have since relocated that resistor to end this issue. I become more and more impressed with the flying capabilities of this helicopter as I get more confident with its use. Also: I am still 100% satisfied with the high level of support I get from both RCTOYS and Spectrolutions. And they are giving me free support on a product that I did not even buy from them. I bought it off Ebay. Thank you :)

I did the motor swap and the problem has completely vanished ! It must have been a bad solder connection. This thing is amazing! Flying a DF is so much better than a normal electric helicopter. It seems like I am dont even have to fight the ground effect that is normally a nucience when learning to fly. I'm about to read your story, SKY. Paulb.

need help with my DF please!!
I just got my first DF the other day off Ebay and I am already having a problem. One of the blades is not spinning properly. Here is what is happening. When I give it light throttle, sometimes all the motors spin normally, but sometimes the front one does not spin at all until I give it LOTS of throttle. If I hold the DF down, and give it throttle, then this motor sounds like it has the hickups. It cuts out and then back in with me NOT making any changes on either stick. I hope this is a defective motor. Anyone have any ideas? If I try and get it up in the air, even just a little, that same motor cuts out and falls back to the ground. Thanks. Paul B.

RE: SERVICE AT DRAGANFLY INNOVATIONS SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I bought a Blade Runner Refurb. last November and when it arrived with bent up blades, they were promptly replaced by DFI. They have always answered my phone calls to their 1-800 # and I even called them yesterday (a Saturday) and someone answered the phone and answered all 10 or 12 of my questions with patience. I am glad to say I just bought a second hand DF IV on ebay and I have absolutely no fears of DFI customer support. They are always good to their word and shipping is less than a week form them to me in Alabama. I just wanted to share my experiences with DFI too. Thanks, PaulB.

RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 *
on Jan 2 there was a post that said: Hi There, you seem to know a little about the Walkera 36 RC helicopter. I'm new and just opened it on Christmas day. Charged the battery and installed new AA in the TX. I can't seem to get the helicopter to respond to the the TX controls. Do you know where I can find instructions on how to confirm my setup? The instructions that came with it were pretty poorly written and doesn't contain a whole lot of information. I want to remind all the extreme noobies that the Walkera transmaiiter takes 8 aa batteries, not just the 4 on top. You got to pull the black battery holder out, flip it over and fill the opposite side with AA batteries as well.

[quote]ORIGINAL: Schwede After some Googling around I found that the ESC (Walkera (and others)) has what is called a 'overcurrent protection' which cuts it off if the current drawn by the motor exceeds a set limit. This will prevent the motor and gears from any damage from too greater forces. THANKS CitYbYdBaY FOR THIS HINT!!! What the heck does that mean?? I have tried it with the jumper on and off. Neither have helped. This motor and ESC came with NO instructions whatsoever, and i am stumped. RE: Walkera Dragonfly #36
da agent, To measure the angle of the blades, you need a pitch gauge which is a tool whose sole purpose is to measure the pitch of your blades. I cant help much with the PZT or PLT. Many people have problems getting their #36 to lift off with the stock components. The belt that leads to the tail may need to be loosened if it is binding. The motor pinion may be pushed too close to the big white gear, which could restrict it from spinning freely. The battery is also very important as well. Very few people can achieve a hover with the NIMH battery which comes with the #36. Mine came with a LIpo as well. I have been able to use it to get it to fly. But it must be fully charged. hope this helps.
