RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
It's been over a year my Firestorm flux has been sleeping in the garage, I stopped playing with it back then because the gears started making a weird sound and I was just too lazy to open the gearbox once again to fix it. I am glad this forum is still active :) Well, yesterday, being bored and missing my RC car, I decided to go back into this hobby, to my surprise I did a 15 minute run without recharging the 5200mah battery, the gearbox was getting noisy so after the battery got drained, I opened the gear box but didnt notice anything wrong, put it back together and the weird sound was gone, go figure ! Anyways, it started snowing so i came up with a winter cover mod to avoid soaking up the electronic when it rains or snow, I used a SNAP FASTENER kit and a freezing bag: http://www.mec.ca/AST/ShopMEC/HikingCamping/MaintenanceRepair/PRD~0106-211/coghlans-snap-fastener-kit-8811.jsp Hope it gives you inspiration, I just ordered some Sling Shot proline tires to play in the snow, the current one slide all the time lol [image]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2858502/Forum%20Pictures/RCUniverse/2012-01-15%20HPI%20Firestorm%20Winter%20run/P1170753.JPG[/image] [image]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2858502/Forum%20Pictures/RCUniverse/2012-01-15%20HPI%20Firestorm%20Winter%20run/P1170755.JPG[/image] [image]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2858502/Forum%20Pictures/RCUniverse/2012-01-15%20HPI%20Firestorm%20Winter%20run/P1170761.JPG[/image] [image]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2858502/Forum%20Pictures/RCUniverse/2012-01-15%20HPI%20Firestorm%20Winter%20run/P1170765.JPG[/image] [image]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2858502/Forum%20Pictures/RCUniverse/2012-01-15%20HPI%20Firestorm%20Winter%20run/P1170769.JPG[/image]

Thought I would share this mod, hope you guys get inspired (it will make you laugh at the tiny LED canopy mod most do). The flashlight support is strong enough to hold the light during jumps, and i'm also going to add a piece of foam at the front/back to be sure nothing nasty happens. The strap goes around the battery so a hard case is HIGHLY recommended !! What you need: A powerful and compact flashlight, here is the one i use, it has the latest and greatest P7 900-Lumen LED : http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.12060 If you go with that P7 Flashlight, youll need one Lithium 18650 Batteries and a Lithium charger, here is the battery (there are many charger out there, find the one that meet your need): http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.26249 and finally, the CORE item, the flashlight support @ only $3: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.12000 OPTIONAL: a clear canopy to let the light through (but even with the stock canopy, its CRAZY bright): http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXPYU1&P=7

Estruadon, If I may, your budget could also be a lot less and you would still be getting SUPER quality [;)] Below is a review I made a few month ago about the $80ish tactic 2.4Ghz TX/RX, I still love the setup + I still haven't replaced the TX batteries (I probably did 20 run since then) + I haven't experienced any drop (I always try driving as far as I can too lol), this radio is really impressive for what it cost..I STILL HIGHLY RECOMMENDED IT !!
First Impression of the tactic 2.4Ghz TX/RX combo from Hobbytowers after a few minutes run (currently @ $80ish with RX) Pros Awesome range !!!!! Interference free !!!! (in my street, stock was loosing signal after 20m, 2.4ghz keep going forever) Failsafe built in, OMG finally I can drive worry free ![:)] Smoother acceleration and perfect precision even far away (barely see the car) lighter TX/Rx Smaller Rx only 4 AA required No more gigantic antennas CHEEEEAAAAAPPPP !!!!! Cons Plastic quality a little under the stock TX often out of stock at towerhobbie (I waited 3 month) The reverse has a little less play so the car cannot go as fast as with stock TX (still pretty quick anyway), the forward has more play though, not sure if it goes faster, will check Conclusion: a MUST buy for the failsafe alone !!! not sure what the RX battery is for, I didnt need it to run the car Wish I could post pics :-(
Hey guys, long time I didn't check this place, hope everyone is ok! I had a quick question and a new SUPER BRIGHT LED mod to share with you guys, i'll post pics very soon but it's pretty much the brightness flashlight ever mounted in the chassis with a rubber mount, looks awesome ! no custom mod required, i'll post where I got all the parts Had a quick question too, I need your recommendation on the best battery to fit the Firestorm, I'm looking at the best capacity. I remember someone sharing a cheap LIPO store with good quality back then, you guys have the link handy ? too many pages to go through lol [:D] my SMC 5000mah died on me after storing the cell fully charged for more than 2 month, SMC refused replacing it under warranty [:(], lesson learned, keep it at 7.4V if i'm not using the cell within 1 or 2 days
ORIGINAL: genitor Well I don't own an e-fire (as yet) but i have had problems with weird parts breaking because i upgraded other parts to aluminum. Does that aluminum toe plate bolt on to the bulkhead? It seems like it might be transferring too much energy to the bullhead on impacts.
The reason I switched to aluminum was because my stock suspension arm broke during my first run and I felt like it was poorly built. I guess i made the wrong move, Aluminum is a no go for the Firestrom. I will try using stock suspension arm while keeping the other part alu, will let you guys know how it hold thanks
