RE: Which boat would you get?
Now, back on topic. As far as a RTR, I would go with the Traxxas Spartan. It's 6s capable out of the box, has aluminum hardware including a adjustable stinger and comes with Castle motor and esc.

RE: Which boat would you get?
"Jims Rc Boat Dock" Its not a boat, it's the new Zenoah 29.5 engine with 1048 big bore carb. It's in the manufactures for sale area. They are $269 shipped.

Off topic but for MadDog, there's a guy over on the Dock that's selling the new G300, already has the +1 crank in it!

RE: Which boat would you get?
The main reason I say build is because I bought the TT Outlaw Jr. as a RTR and thought it would be good enough. Pretty much, I've paid $200 for a plastic hull since that is the only thing being re-used. If someone is wanting more speed than what they already have, chances are a RTR is not going satisfy the want for too long.

RE: Which boat would you get?
That's not a excuse, if you dont have time to build, how do you have time to enjoy the hobby.? If he is going to buy speed, a $200-$300 rtr is not going to buy much. 30mph out of the box doesn't excite you for too long and paying someone to build a FE is gonna cost a whole lot more than doing it yourself.

RE: Which boat would you get?
None of the above, build one! I bought a Thunder Tiger Outlaw Jr. OBL thinking it would be just a fun little boat. Now, the need for speed has hit me and the only thing left in it that's stock is the hull and I've already put a layer of carbon fiber down to strengthen the hull for the upgrades. Get you a Delta Force mono or cat and build it the way you want. http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/proddetail.php?prod=df-delta29 With one of the 40XX motors: http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/products.php?cat=Leopard+Motors Add you own size hardware, you have a screamer! This is the motor/ battery combo I'm putting in the Outlaw Jr.: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yM61GM90A0

RE: Thunder Tiger Outlaw Jr. Brushless
The reason I was looking at 28mm motors is because the factory was a 28mm outrunner. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXBLLZ&P=X

RE: Where Should My Center Of Gravity Be?
A good rule of thumb is 28%-33%, 28 being 8.4" from transom, 33 being 9.9" from transom for a 30" hull.

RE: Thunder Tiger Outlaw Jr. Brushless
^Yes it would! I'm trying one of the cheap Chinese motors, EMP B2835. It's a inrunner and for $13, figured I'd give it a try. Being new to the FE scene, I'm still unsure on how to pick motors. I know that running 4S batteries I need to stay around 2200KV to keep the RPMs below 35,000, after that, I really have no clue. I dont want to seriously overpower the hull, but I'd like to have it handle well in the corners.

RE: Thunder Tiger Outlaw Jr. Brushless
It was running much better than the stock config until the motor bit the dust. Doing as you suggested, going to run 2S batteries in series and have them where I can move them back and forth to find the perfect CG.

RE: Thunder Tiger Outlaw Jr. Brushless
The CG was way off, very back heavy, so after setting it to a more appropriate CG of 33%, the small leak from around the stinger was able to let enough water in the hull to get to the motor and poof [:@] Tore the hull all the way down and put a layer of CF down to help strengthen it since its a ABS design. Bought most of my hardware, going with a stand off rudder and a adjustable stinger.

RE: Thunder Tiger Outlaw Jr. Brushless
The actual prop shaft is solid, not a flex shaft, bending it is not a option. Another cool shot though:

RE: Thunder Tiger Outlaw Jr. Brushless
The lipo goes in the radio box and the strut is not adjustable, solid prop shaft. Guess I'll keep this a entry level boat and just put a 4S 2200 in it, no since in throwing money at a plastic hull. Looks like a Delta Force mono in my future [:D]

A fellow photography buddy took the shots. Running 50% and using a Octura Y535, this is the only prop I have tried so far. The pond I ran at is pretty nice, you get the urge, let me know and we'll go and burn some fuel there [:D]

Might go that route, it is just too slow. This is my first mono, is it riding too low, I need to adjust the trim tabs to lighten up the front?

3300 RAW!!!!!! I shoot RAW for glamour/ portrait shots but not for sports, I know at least 75% of the action shots wont be keepers. I have the little brother 70-200L, the f/4, non IS [:o] on a 50D. Hoping a friend decides to get the 5D MKIII so I can take the MKII off her hands [:D] Gotta go back through your other threads and check out the shots, keep up the good work.

Thunder Tiger Outlaw Jr. Brushless
Just bought this boat a few days ago and so far, for a $200 ARTR, it's not that bad. It doesn't come with a battery and TT suggest using a 3S 2200mah 25C. This battery will be ok for a beginner, with the 1850KV motor, you are only getting 20,500rpm. Run time with aggressive driving is around 5 minutes, gonna throw a 4S in there and see what happens.
