RE: JULY 28th is the Registration CUTOFF for the WAAM C40 Race
Do I understand that if we did not register by the 28th of July that we will not be allowed to participate in the contest? Can you clear this?

RE: Bootlegger?
Good evening, The first canopy is out of the mold and the second canopy is presently in the mold. I am enclosing a picture and I think it came OK with the aircraft structure epoxy that I am using. This canopy has my name on it, the next one has Dave Phillips name on it. Let me or Dave know if you need one. I plan to make them as they are needed and requested. I am also in the final steps in getting ready an original Dirty Birdy canopy plug. Thanks to Dave who was very kind to loan me his original kit DB canopy so I could make a copy. I know my DB is going to look better with this canopy. Have a nice evening.

RE: Southern R/C bootlegger plan
First picture of the canopy/s. Epoxy still needs to cure some more and I need to make a little adjustment to the front of mold, otherwise the canopy came out OK. This was a trial run and in the next one I will use a different brand of epoxy and the right amount of fiberglass layers. The picture is of the canopy on top of a Compensator fuselage that is build in accordance to plans with exception of being about an inch and a quarter longer. I really do not see why the canopy will not fit a wider fuselage, but once it is dry I going to make a template with the measurements given in previous posts just to make sure that there is not going to be a problem/s.

For those of you that have the Bootlegger plans, what are the dimensions at the front and rear of the canopy? Thanks.

RE: Southern R/C bootlegger plan
The canopy will be flexible and it will fit a fuselage that is wider than the dimensions that I posted. I have a Compensator fuselage that I am making and I will see how the canopy fits once I remove the canopy from the mold. If it is too narrow I will go back to the drawing board and will make another plug and mold. Folks, fiberglass work is a hobby for me and I will gladly take the challenge to make a canopy that will fit properly. Hang in there... The wait is almost over.

RE: Bootlegger?
Hi y'all, I am back and I must tell you that is and it was hot up the east coast. I am sorry I did not see the request about the additional dimensions, but I will get them once I remove the first canopy from the mold. With the present temperature it should take less time for the epoxy to cure.

RE: Bootlegger?
Hi y'all, The lenght of the canopy is 60.5 Centimeters. The width at the front is 7.5 Centimeters. The width at the center is 7.85 Centimeters. The width at the rear is 7.75 Centimeters. The width dimension are the outside dimension of the canopy and due to some degree of flexibility of the fiberglass/epoxy we will be able to make it a little bit larger or smaller. I should have the first canopy by Sunday. Does any body have a Gelcoat spray gun that would like to part with at a reasonable price. PM me if you have one.

RE: Bootlegger?
Hi y'all, Molds came out OK and are mounted permanently on their bases. Tomorrow I will do the final sanding and the parting wax will be put on the mold/s for a total of 10 coats. After that it will be the PVA for a total of four coats and then I will make the first canopy. I will post the dimensions tomorrow for those of you that need the dimensions to make adjustments in your drawings/plans. Happy Fourth of July.

Hi y'all Plugs for the Bootlegger and Deception canopies are ready and have 10 coats of parting wax. I am wating for the brown truck to deliver the Tooling Gelcoat, in the mean time I will start spraying the PVA. The other two items in the pictures are a mold for a Compensator canopy and a cowling that I intend to use in my next Compensator.

RE: SPMRC Classic Pattern Primer
Minneapolis was my home, but uncle Sam did need my services and I left in 1965. I have always wanted to return and if you had a CPA contest it will most certainly give me an excuse to return. Looking at the address for your field brings even more memories. I used to work for Control Data on Lexington Avenue North while I was attending Brown Institute. Godd luck this weekend and I hope to meet you guys down the road in the Minneapolis Saint Paul area.

Fibre Glast (www.fibreglast.com) in their web site, under learning center has a training video on how to make a mold for a cowl. Also, check youtube for other videos on how to make fiber glass molds.

Engine mount
I am installing a YS 160 engine on an airplane that had an OS engine. The airplane has two rubber strips on each wood engine beam which has signs of being compressed from previous installation. Also, when I install the new YS engine the rubber strips compress and change the angle of incidence of the engine (down and up trust). I have never seen this type of mount before. Am I missing something from this mount? Thank you in advance for your help.

RE: BPA Huntsville 2011
Sorry folks I did not make it Huntsville this year. Last Friday I left Augusta for Huntsville around 8:30PM knowing that the weather was going to be bad. By the time I was 80 miles into the trip the weather was was not only bad, it was worse with very heavy rain and lighting all over the place. A quick check with the weather forecast it indicated that it was going to get worse along I 20 and the best thing to do was to turn back. It was a very painful decision, but it was the right decision. It took me a long time to get home, but I made it back in one piece and I also made the family happy who along the trip kept me calling from three states asking it I was out of my mind being out on the road under those weather conditions. I am glad that those that attended the contest had a good time. As for me, there is always next year..... see you then.

RE: MY Foam Cutter Power Supply Build
If you can find a transformer from an old Microwave oven you can convert it to give the output voltages needed for your circuit. Using a chisel cut away the transformer's secondary (Heavier gage wire). Next, wrap around the core (where the secondary winding was) a new secondary using 14 or 16 AWG wire. One turn will give you a 1 volt output. For instance, 6 turns will give an output of 6 volts. You can wrap individual secondary windings for each voltage output or just one winding and then tap at diferent points to get the desired voltage outputs. Also, if you would like to have a variable voltage output you could install a Light Dimmer to provide variable power to the primary. I am using a transformer from a small Microwave oven that I found being put in the garbage. As for wire, I am using Romex wire which is used to wire houses and can be found at any home improvement store. Also, all microwave ovens have a fan to keep the Magnetron cool during operation. This fan is rated at 120 Volts and is ideal to keep things cool if you decide to put a rectifier and use DC instead of AC as the power source to your equiment.

FS-91S-II-P Fuel Pressure Regulator
I have a used engine that it is missing the larger spring from the pressure regulator. Is there a kit to rebuild the regulator or where can I find the part numbers. So far at the manufacture and US distributor web sites I have not found the part numbers other than the part number for the regulator cover.

RE: 2nd BPA contest in HSV. AL
Today I went to the BPA web site and did read the BPA rules and unless I am reading and interpreting the rules wrong my Daddy Rabbit and WM Intruder with OS Surpass 91 engines do not meet the engine requirements. I was really looking forward to be part of the BPA and enjoy once again the way I use to fly in the old days. I am building another SPA airplane at this time and the next project is going to be a BPA airplane with a Rossi engine and probably you will see me at the next meeting/contest. My best wishes to all of you.
