Sounds like a good reason to buy two DLE 35R's for a neater and meater set up.

RE: 26 gas16/8 or 17/10 prop
MVVS + 17 x 6 APC + Bisson pitts muffler = 8800 rpm Hauling a 11-12 lbs plane around like a rag doll. I don't care about mr. cheapo, if any of those props are maplewood, paint them for scale and sell them for static display planes. When it comes to props the price of some very good ones are 15 -25 dollars. Beechwood is the minimum for 4 bolts. But with a single bolt like the MVVS you can't beat an APC. If your real cheap just go with the 17 x 6 but if your up for an experiment the 18 x 6W APC might be awfully good too. If hauling it aroud like a rag doll is what you want, you need to go with a bigger motor though.

RE: still won't idle
ORIGINAL: soarrich
ORIGINAL: warbird addict Set your high speed needle FIRST for wide open throttle a 50 to 55 cc motor should be running a 22x10 to a 23x8 set your WOT at 2 to 300 rpms less then max on the ground as it will lean out in the air next set your LSN so that you get good response and transition by blipping the throttle from closed to about half throttle back to closed if it hangs up and the idle slowly comes back to a stable idle you are too lean, if it wants fall on it's face and dip below reliable idle or stall when you return it to idle you are too rich, all too often people make the mistake of trying to tune a carb out of sequence they are all over the place, it absolutely has to be done in this order HSN first and then LSN as the HSN's sole function is to control the maximum amount of fuel allowed to the carb PERIOD! the LSN does ALL the metering throughout the zero to half throttle inputs without the HSN being set correctly FIRST you will never get it right, hope this helps . I Learned this in my earlier years tuning rc boat motors which are 1000% more finicky
This is 100% wrong for a Walbro carb, you do the low first then the high. The low affects the high, the high doesn't effect the low.
Of course you have to make a blanket statement which is mostly correct but wrong also. The orifices both low and high are simple holes that have no shutoff seeing a low pressure zone and extend back to a fuel resevoir at a higher pressure. Therefor they both (sometimes three when there are two low speed orifices) meter fuel as long as the engine is pumping (air flow through the carb). If this is to become a pissing contest you should be very careful how you word things. The OP here seems a little lost though if he doesn't even understand the function of the pump side (ie. do I need the pulse line hooked up?). We should keep it simple. IMHO both needles should be revisted if large adjustments are made. I always start from a rich low and do the high first. Also I only work on the low at 2500 rpm always repositioning the throttle back to 2500 rpm, because, the air opening is a critical part of the low end adjustment. Just my .02

RE: GAS EQUIVALENTS TO GLOW ENGINES?
ORIGINAL: Loopman Hey Guys, I have a plane that had a ST2500 on it and I want to go to the gas equivalent of that engine. How do you determine what gas engine would replace a glow engine? The ST2500 was swinging a 20x6 JZ prop, I need to swing that same prop on a gasser and get the same thrust. Thanks Loopman [;)]
The average guy here is not going to be able to give an answer to your same prop question. Why are you soooooo over proped on the ST2500????? my ST's ran 10500 on an APC 17 x 6 pumped on a Bisson muffler (~16 lbs thrust). I currently still run a ST3250 on an Evolution 18 x 6 beechwood prop on a bisson muffler (~ 18 lbs thrust). I can only imagine how low on the performance curve that 20 x 6 prop is on that engine. OK nuf said, basic question how do you determine what engine to another: 1. Weight. 2. RPM on same prop 3. Mounting considerations. 4. Cost. Any of the common gas 26's will give better rpm on your JZ 20 x 6 than your current choice. (I might go with a beam mount like the MVVS or EVO).

I vote try some different props too. Two that come to mind would be the APC 17 X 4W and the 18 x 6W. I would try the 17 x 4W first. If you hit 9500 rpm on the ground you should be golden. Don't worry about the rpm that high quality Japanese engine will take it.

RE: ASP .91 > DLE-20 ??
ORIGINAL: toniintc Gas is indeed inexpensive. Â I can't see moving to a different engine without moving to something that will allow me to spend 80% less per gallon on fuel. Â Yes, the wing loading will increase, but the plane lands well now and I don't expect the additional weight will change that significantly. From everything above it seems the consensus is that the DLE-20 will perform better that the .91. Â I appreciate the insight. As to the comment about Zenoah - the closest analogy to the DLE-20 is $50 more expensive and 10oz heavier.
The wing loading does not need to increase with the DLE 20. I have one in a GP .60 size Extra 300 which is both balistic and lighter than a like power glow. Consider 10 minutes of full throttle fuel weight with a small reserve: Your .91 2 stroke glow will need a 14 oz tank that must be pumped or kept close to the engine which yeilds a changing CG during flight. The gas plane engine, Zenoah 20 or DLE 20 (I have both) will need only an 8 oz tank which can be placed on the CG because of the walbro carb's pump. That's a 6 oz advantage right there! I like the Beechwood props on these gassers myself which is another weight savings over the heavy APC which glows seem to perform best with. As for speed, 15 x 10, 16 x 8, 17 x 6, yeild fast, medium and hover. For ignition battery I am using a single Li-ion cell with a voltage booster. This is over 4 hours of run time at a weight of less than 2 ozs. The Zenoah is easily put on a diet. Its stock muffler is steel and weighs 6 ozs. Its ignition is heavy too, I have replaced mine with a RCexel.

RE: 100 OCTANE aviation fuel in gasser
ORIGINAL: tallone66 Â My 2c worth on the question. Can you run avgas: Yes, you can, but why would you want to. Will it hurt my engine: No not likely, nothing thete to hurt it, but you will have to keep an eye on lead buildup on the comb chamber and the crown of the piston. Â Although you have avgas available, it should not be your first choise for fuel, unless you can not get REGULAR fuel. The lead is in it for anti knock issues( Who wants there full scale detonating at 10000 ft) plus burn charicteristics. Unless you do supporting mods to your engine to take full advantage of the octain of the fuel, You WILL loose performance, and it could be quite a substatial loss as well. It will most likely run hotter, due to the fact that it would behave like you retarded your ignition timing ( The slower burn rate would have it burning well after tdc) which is not good. ( That could cause erosion on the exaust side od the piston crown). Â The best thing you can run, is the LOWEST octain fuel without detonation, this will give you the best performance all around. Setting up your engine to run well on avgas can be done, but the supporting mods ( Higher compression, Port timing, Tuned pipe ect......) would cost a few bucks for sure, and then My choise of fuel would still not be avgas, but c10 instead. Â Cheers Derrick
Great Post! Thank you. More than 2c's worth. I can't think of a dollar amount to put on it, but, very much more than 2 cents.

RE: Dle 30 dies in takeoff
Installing weights under the box did not bend the needle lever in the carb and neither should you now. The first guess for disrupted air flow would be that of the cooling air flow (the weights blocked it off ?). Many people solder a nipple to the pressure regulator hole on the carb and use tubing to route it to a non turbulent area inside the fuse. Although if you are new to gas simply tunning the engine might be the answer (only a newbie would turn the high speed needle 1/4 a turn, way too much). A picture of your complete setup would help.and answer a lot of questions.

RE: Let the Mods begin!
I tell people it is very simple to tell if your speed is slow and your in danger of stalling. Simply, pay attention to the elevator position you are holding (don't look down at it though). If you are holding a lot of up elevator, you will stall. So relax the elevator to neutral let the plane pick up a little speed then input a very slight back pressure on the elevator and you will never stall.

12x6 sounds right, 2500 rpm idle, nose slightly elevated and a hint of backpressure on the stick she should come down like a aerobat. Don't try to land her like a trainer, even if you build light, the wing loading on an Extra is higher than a trainer. Also how do you set your CG?
