RE: P40 Zoroli 93 inch wing what motor to use?
I had a 3W 80 swinging a Mej 24x12 3bl and flew with lots of power. I've seen a number of people put DA 85 in them too. They tend to need lots of nose weight though.

RE: Warbirds & large gas engine/props
Since noise is major concern, try to avoid wide open throttle on your upline and make low passes with full throttle over the runway. Bearcat has a small cowl so an efficient muffler may not fit all inside, vs say a P40 cowl. You may want to borrow a Mej 24x12 3 blade from someone. You will be impressed with with low noise and good performance. Xoar 26x12 2 blade may be too loud for your neighbors.

RE: Warbirds & large gas engine/props
I have a bit of exerperience with DA 85 in warbirds to share with you. I don't have the ZDZ 90, but performance should be close to the DA85. If you're looking for scale 4 bl prop, don't use the Fuchs 21x11. It 's too small and very loud even for my DA 85. I was getting around 7500 rpm on it. If you want to consider the 3 bl, I loved the Mej 24x12. It's quiet and gives great speed on the low passes. I agree that you should stick to 12 pitch for warbirds application, rather than 10 pitch. I think a 24x12 would be good start for 2 blade option. I've run 24x10 and 25x10 on my DA 85 and it gets pretty loud. 26x12 or 27x10 2 blade is what I run on my 100cc motors. I'm not sure this zdz can outswing 100cc motors. 27x12 or 28x12 is what I would use on 120cc motors, too much prop for this smaller guy.

RE: Top-Flite 1/5th F4U Corsair ARF Group Build and modification thread
I've just ordered one from Tower, and looking for power source for mine. I like to fly warbirds fast and furious. How much dead weight are you guys adding to the DLE 55 to balance? Other options are the G62 vs DA 60, depending on the nose weight issue. Anyone tried going bigger and able to fit in the cowl? This seems a bit smaller than the ESM version.

I see that some of you are swinging the Mej 22x12 3bl with DLE 55? What speed are you getting with that combo? Did you have to add any nose weight? I have a ZDZ 80 that I'm wondering if I can squeeze into this airframe.

I put 3M 53cc gasser in an old KMP Sea Fury with only 72" wingspan, turning APC T-6 racing prop. It is my best flying warbird. Great at buzzing runway and slows down nicely for easy landings.

RE: RPM increase after break-in
New engines are set rich at the factory for easy starting. The needles get leaned out as the motor is broken in, with better idle and transition to full throttle. Motors pick up more revs mainly because the needles are getting leaned out. But hear all the time people claim they pick up 500rpm when their motors are broken in. I think their motors where too rich to start with. Just my 2 cents.

RE: G-62 w/APC 20x15 racing prop
I've used this prop many times for warbirds, using 50-60cc motors. It is actually 20x12 size. This prop is a speed prop, best application would be in say P51 airframe. The P47 has large radial cowl and pretty bulky airframe, not ideal if you're looking for speed. But it will fly ok.

I've run the Mejz 24x12 3-bl prop on 3W 80cc in Ziroli P40. Don't remember the rpm but revs are right up there, so I expect the DA 85 should do well with that prop. My P40 was well in 100mph club and sounded great, not too loud.

Ultimate CG location?
Hi guys, Please help my buddy locate the CG on this Ultimate. It's 70" ws and 76" long. Built from an unk kit about 15 years ago and never flown until now. I'm guessing the CG is at the lower wing's alum tube/spar, but not sure. It looks about right. Any help here would be appreciated.

RE: DLE 55 oil slection?
I use Redline 50:1 and have not bothered to research for better oil. My auto repair shop uses the same brand oil for my Benz and seems to work well for years. It's much more important to properly tune your motor than to worry about oil brands. Check your plug after every gallon of use to make sure you're not running too rich or lean. That's my 2 cents.

Get the Sulllivan Megatron if you don't want to mess with gear reduction option. It will crank over 40cc on 12 volts. You can then use the starter on 24v for bigger motors up to 100cc size.

I have the TF GS P47 with Sachs 72cc motor up front, swinging the Fuchs 21x11 4bl prop very well. You will need bigger than 50cc to swing a scale 4bl prop. Otherwise, the Brison will be fine.

I've been flying the World Models GS Zero 81" with TOC 53cc for years. Great flying plane, ARF at $460 hard to beat the price. World Models quality is a little better than CMP. Also, avoid rotating retracts if you're budget minded and inexperienced. Zero design generally is solid, sort of like the American Mustang.

I use Hitec 7955/5955 or Futaba 9156 on the elevators of my 85-150cc stuff and have zero problems. I've had several servos in the 160-180oz range fail in the 3D planes even at 50cc size. It boils down to what you're doing with the planes. You will need lots more torque on that rudder though.

RE: Best Warbird Batteries?
I've flown enough to see batteries of all different types fail regardless of what type. The key is battery redundancy in case one fails. Use 1100 mAh x 2 if you're flying smaller 50cc bird, and use 2100-2300 x 2 if flying the big stuff. LiFe is the best choice in terms of safety, ease of use, and not need to use regulator (if running old school servos). The brand of LiFe depends on your budget. I have yet to see the HobbyKing LiFe batteries fail. I've bought over 12 packs to date with about 2 years exeperience with them. Buy Fromeco if you don't mind spending hundreds, at 40-80 bucks a piece. Use Lipos only if you're willing to take them out of the plane to charge them, so you can closely monitor for "puffing".

RE: prop size
24x10 3 blade is good for 80-85cc class. My 3W 80cc could swing Mej 24x10 at around 6800rpm. I imagine your DLE 111 will swing the snot out of this prop, unless your motor is old and tired.

I'm running a Fuchs 21x11 4bl on DA 85 that gets the snot spun out of it on TF GS p47. I have not found a good 4bl on 50cc class motor. IMHO, the motor is too small to swing the big 4bl prop. Solos are great but spendy.

RE: Heaviest WWII Warbird flown with a G62?
I have 2 Ziroli P40, one with stock G62 and another with 3W 80cc and pitts muffler, both weighed about 40lbs. G62 gives respectable flying, but 80cc motor allows for scale Mej 3blade prop (24x10) and gives great power for much better flying experience. You can really rattle the dishes on a full throttle low fly by... I would love to upgrade the G62 bird at some point, just too lazy presently. IMHO save your money or sell some stuff and go for the 3W 80 or DA 85 and get a scale prop for that warbird.

RE: DLE 30 vs DLA 32 vs AEROVATE 32
DLE 30 costs the same as Mintor 33cc in Italy? Wow!!! You're getting ripped off by import taxes/profit taking with the DLE. Mintor costs a quite a bit in the US. That's why I have not bought one. We use DLE here because it's knock off. It's not a name brand motor. Does Mintor have a bad reputation in Italy? Have you looked at 3W engine line and check prices? They make great engines. I have 3 and love them, but all in bigger sizes (80-150cc). They have strong torque at the lower rpms, great for 3D.

RE: ZDZ 80 B2 RV-L question
That GT 80 weighs a ton, so I'm not sure going with an 80-85cc will give much if any gain in horsepower by the time you add the noseweight to balance it out again. If your cowl can clear it, I agree that going with 100-120cc twin will make more sense. Figure out how much weight on the nose to balance and select 100cc class motor to match.

Weston Magnum is a great speed plane that does not look like a flying shingle or ugly stick. It is a spendy bird though, unless you get a nice used one. Plane is fast, tracks like it's on rails, glides ok without power. I also have a Kangke F20 with lots of miles on it. The F20 is really tight up front and will not take a big heavy motor. I have OS 46fx with Jettstream tuned muffler in it and had to put receiver battery all the way back in the tail to balance. Speed was 90-100mph with that combo.
