RE: Elevon programming trouble
Thanks guys. The DX6i elevon setting is only on or off, no tinkering. The switching of leads did the trick. Either the book is wrong (same instructions in the DX5e book) or the radio is dislexic. Now if the wind will die down some, about 20mph for last 3 days, I'll try that little sucker out!

Elevon programming trouble
[:@]I have just completed a Delta foamie that requires elevons. I followed the directions for the Tx and RX (DX6i Spektrum/orange 4ch) . Right servo to elevator, left servo to aileron on RX. The results are: evevator works correctly, ailerons are reversed. I have tried reversing the aileron function and end up with up going left, down going right, right going down, and left going up. This is very wrong. I tried reversing the elevator and ended up with only one surface working at a time resulting in roll left or right depending on up or down, or left or right. I really don't understand this. How do I get the ailerons to work correctly?

RE: If their were no kits, would you quit building? :)
With the downfall of the local hobbyshops, finding things to finish the build is a neverending quest. I build from plans. The ones that are in FlyRC magazine are fun. It takes a while to figure out some of the details but I enjoy it. I also scrounge the dollar stores for odds and ends. I found some large plastic clothes pins that made dandy clamps. A set of black stick-on numbers allows a neat AMA number on the wing. Small parts containers abound and some forums extoll the virtues of Dollar Generals foam board for foamies. Cheap action figures supply some unusual pilots. Z-bends are not too difficult and control horns are easy to make. I foud some screwdriver sets at Southerlands last Christmas for $1 each. They even work on Japanese screws. I got enough for the whole club and handed them out as gifts. In other words, If all kits and plans disappeared, I would be whittling parts and building planes.

RE: Radio Setup
A basic rule of thumb is: 100% high/75% low and depending on your experience level, 20% to 45% expo. I am new in the intermediate ranks and use 40-45% expo on my Extra.

RE: Battery Recommenations for E-flite Extra 300
Zippy batteries from Hobby King have been working for me. I have a Parkzone Extra 300 that uses 2200mAh 3s. Parkzone gets $44 dollars for thiers, with shipping included, I got 3 Zippys for less than $40. They have a higher C rating too!

RE: NEED MICO VID CAM
I have 2 Keychain cameras from Hobby King. They were about $15.00 last year when I got them. They are very small and light, you will have to make a mount for them though. The video is clear but has pauses. I use them on a Radian sailplane and get good footage but cull still photos out of it and get exceptionally good prints.

RE: tritles cessna 180
[:D]Righty-O. I think I would extend the motor leads. The ESC's are too prone to sustain damage from heat and static electricity. I have been considering some Tritle kits but you give me pause. What was it, other than the above problem, you didn't care for?

RE: Tx programming
[:@]I just spent 45 min. in the shop programming for "spoilerons". The process worked great on a PA-18 Cub that I just completed. It has one of the Orange Rx that is compatible with Spektrum. With happy heart, I opened up the Extra and removed the "Y" cable from the ailerons, plugged the starboard into AILE and the port into what should be AUX1. This, however, is a Spektrum AR500 Rx and it doesn't have AUX1 it has another AILE. When the FLAP switch was thrown, the ailerons jumped to a full deflection in what would initiate a hard rolling move. Not good. The moral of this story is, get another Rx that has AUX1. I haven't maidened the PA-18 yet so I don't want the spoiler or flap. The PA-18 has barn door ailerons and one or your posts suggested not using Flaperons or spoilerons for these. Cubs really don't require flaps except for "bush" flying (STOL). Looks like I will be ordering from Hobby King again.

RE: tritles cessna 180
You state that you bought a short kit. The wire length of the ESC and motor is not a fault of the kit. If you purchased the electronics recommended by Trittle, shame on them. If you subistuted either or both items, It is not a kit problem.

RE: Iam new to hobby king ???????????????
I have ordered a few things from them and have had good luck. If you are thinking of ordering airplanes, large ones, the shipping can double the price if it comes out of China. I would only order them from the US warehouse. Definitely don't do any backorder or out-of-stock stuff. So far, everything has been as stated and in good order when I got it. I understand from the reviews for the products that thier customer service for warranty, etc, sucks.

RE: Tx programming
Thanks again for the input. I find that I can programm in "spoilerons" and mix in elevator with my radio. I think I will try them instead of "flaperons" as I have had experience with tipstall while flying my first plane, a parkzone J-3 Cub. They (tipstalls) are no fun. I also fly electric powered sailplanes and will try "spoilerons" on my 4 channel bird.

RE: Tx programming
Thanks for the input. The model is a Parkzone Extra 300, 2.2lbs with full strip aeilerons. It is balanced neutral and has a tendency to glide long distances. I have actually parked it at about 300 ft into the wind and fiddled with the radio and had it stay where parked. Where I fly at home is pretty tight with very little approach path and a 20 x 150 grass strip to land on. Where I fly in Texas, there is much more room to roll out so it isn't much of a problen there. Would an aft CG help?

Tx programming
I have several models with two aieleron servos. One of them lands very fast and I am interested in how to program and use "flaperons". I am using a Spektrum DX6i tx and AR500 Rx on this particular plane. All suggestions and instructions welcome.

RE: Consequences of flying at a non-sactioned field?
I have just this one point to make and then you can get back to your discussion. The AMA does not sanction fields. It sanctions clubs. [>:]

RE: Why does the AMA have to grow?
[:D]As some of the guys have stated,"It's about clout". It really is. If you have been following the efforts of the EC you will know that they have been in conference with the FAA, Military, and EAA to define and protect what are no longer 'toy airplanes' but UAV's. Our hobby has been militarized to a scale not imagined in our youth. Our frequencies, radio gear, etc. are all controled by the federal government. The more members we claim, the more strength we hold in those conferences. Staying static in numbers will exhibit a basic weakness in those meetings. We need to protect our right to practice this hobby. Otherwise we will all be flying rubber powered FF again. (I do that too.) Also, the business axiom, "If you ain't growing, your dying!" is a fact of orginizational life. The AMA is ,afterall, an Orginazation.[:)]
