RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications
ORIGINAL: djstar39 Folks, Working on building number 2. Number 1 always had a horrible tendancy to climb like crazy with increased throttle. On building this one, should the incidence of the wing and the horizontal stab be the same? Right now the horizontal stab is -1.2 with it being inverted. If it should be the same, I have some sanding to do in the horizontal stab saddle. Will also make sure I have some down thrust. Thanks! Dave
I strongly advise against playing with any wing incidence. Try lowering the engine thrust vector by adding a couple washer nuts to the back screws that hold the engine to its mount. This plus some elevator trim should solve your climb problem.

RE: NEW H9 P51 Mustang 60 ARF
ORIGINAL: jet22b Shane; You said it all!!! All the ARF I buy now will have a 1 to 2 days re-glue job!!! The area that get the best re-glue job, is the high stress area, ( ie landing gear, firewall, and the wings hold down area. Back in the days, kits was king. You go to your local hobby shop, buy the plane you want. Take that big box home, put it on your workshop table, open it up to see a box of wood and a set of plans, and 5 months later you have a plane to cover, but you know the plane is built right. While ARF cut down on the build time and get you in the air fast, you still need to go over the high stress area and re-glue!! Just my 2 cents!!! Sonny aka jet22b
This is definitely true with the new Hangar 9 ARFs , I have the Bluenose and the Denight and they dont compare in wood quality or durability to their older models. I did 300 plus flights on my old H9 P-40 and never needed a drop of epoxy. Again Topflite ARFs are lightyears ahead of the new H9 models . You can easily tell that Topflite have applied their long experience in qualty kit design to their new ARFs . I can speak for their P-51 60 and the new P-40 which I'm currently assembling. They may not be 100% kit quality but certainly way superior to my H9 models. In fact given the choice between a TF kit or their ARF I would choose the later because of the reduced weight . You simply cannot go wronge with TF.

RE: Scoop! Hangar 9 Phoenix 7...ARF!!!
Need some advice gents . I'm thinking of installing an OS 91fx with an ultrathrust muffler. With an APC 12x10 it should deliver 12-13k rpm depending on the fuel. I'm already using this combo on few other 60 sized and quite happy with it . How will the Phoenix take it ?
ORIGINAL: ton2di bhoges17, Do you have a video of the maiden flight already? I flew mine this weekend with an os 120FSIII turning an apc 14x12N at around 8600. Well, for one thing it was quieter at full speed compared to the apc 14x10. They both run around 8600-8700 on the ground, but I guess the 14x10 unloads more in the air. ton2di
I too have the 120FS on mine . Planning to do the CG this week. How much tail weight did you have to add.

RE: NEW H9 P51 Mustang 60 ARF
My Blue Nose is still in the box so I cannot voice an opinion based on experience , however what worries me about the 120ax is not only the overpowering factor (the 120ax gives almost twice the power required ) . From the wood and build quality that I saw I fear the 120 may cause a great deal of stress on the integrity of the plane's structure . You see this engine in action and you'll know what I'm talking about. I already have an OS 110-p waiting to go on this but if I was to go with a 2s I would choose the 90fx or the 95 ax. Putting the H9 P-51 next to its TF counterpart you cannot help noticing how much more solid and strong the Topflite build is. The H9 Denight has the same build quality as the Blue Nose and I had to stengthen many parts with fiberglass and resin.
ORIGINAL: da Rock
ORIGINAL: jet22b da Rock; If you can, please post some pictures of your build!!! Yes this plane look so sweet and I need a P-40 in my war bird hangar!! One quick question, did you go with Robart or Top Flite retract system?? Thanks for your answer.. Sonny aka jet22b
I've put LADO retracts in. I've got them on my P47, Spit (had to modify for more throw), Corsair, and just recently F6F. The ones for this one and the F6F were recently purchased from the new owners at LADO and I got 'em in less than a week. They're so easy and dependable. Screw 'em in, plug the connectors in and they're good to go. Well, except for the Spitfire.
Will you be using struts with the Lado ?

RE: NEW H9 P51 Mustang 60 ARF
ORIGINAL: flyboy0608 Hey guys, i have a question. I took the plane to the hobby store and a good friend of mine there re-enforced the landing gear area with fiberglass and Z-pozzy. He did a great job and i am very grateful to him for his help. But I guess he inadvertently got some Z-pozzy on the planes wings and did not notice it. It dried over night and now I have some stains on both of my wings. Not a huge lot but just enough to bother me. Doesn't look good. Can anyone tell me if there is anything that i can buy to get rid of the Z-pozzy stains. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated. Alcohol no longer works because it the stains already dried. HELP ! !
Also you can use your iron or heat gun. Heat will soften the epoxy then you can wipe it with a wet cloth .

RE: NEW H9 P51 Mustang 60 ARF
Let me be honest flyboy How much do you like this plane ? Two sroke is not the way to go. It will not look or sound right. I would pay an additional $100 or so and invest in a four stroke. It will keep long after the ARF is gone. Dont get me wrong , OS two strokes are fantastic engines but not an ideal choice for a nice warbird like the Bluenose .

RE: Tiger Moth manufacturer? Recognize?
Just came across this thread , if you are still looking for a manual I only have a link to the 120 size manual. http://www.jperkinsdistribution.co.uk/downloads/5500295a.pdf or you can contact the chinese manufacturer , they should be helpful : http://www.greenmodel.com/2000/english/produceintro/oil/tiger.htm I bought the large version several years ago and the assembly did not require a drop of glue or epoxy. This is a high quality model and you should find your way around it without any difficulty. Cheers

RE: NEW H9 P51 Mustang 60 ARF
kurrikan, -without any modifications the wing loading of the Blue Nose is already high ... if I remember correctly 34oz/sq ft. your OS 120 adds at least 400gms above the reccommended engins plus your extra modifications , with a full tank of gas your plane probably took off at 13 lbs with a wing loading of 40oz. plus. Way too high for any warbird let alone a P-51 which under normal conditions have a higher stall speed that most other warbirds. -I looked carefully at the photo of the crashed plane and I could not detect that you have provided a sufficient air ventilation outlet at the bottom of your cowl. You are a seasoned flyer and you know how important it is for a glow engine to be well cooled especially on a hot summer day. If my assumption is correct I suspect your engine was already running hot while still on the runway and most likely did not generate anywhere near its optimal performance. My final advice.... go with the TopFlite P-51 .

RE: NEW H9 P51 Mustang 60 ARF
For those interested......... the new Blue Nose batch to be released in June WILL include several improvements and modifications. Apparently that was the main reason for the delay. Horizon has already promised a few replacements however they are not likely to admit past failures.

RE: NEW H9 P51 Mustang 60 ARF
Good luck with your maiden Kurrikan , I like what you did with with the OS120 , is that the 90 degree manifold ? Just one word of advice ... on a hot summer day if you are not too careful a leen engine can easily overheat and P-51s dont take too kindly to that .

RE: Top Flite P-47D Thunderbolt ARF .60-.91: Building & Mods
This is a well designed ARF with no bad habits , however in general I would not recommend any P-51 for a first warbird . I would go with a P-47 or a Corsair or a Spitfire. Easier to handle, lower wing loading and lower stall spead. Good luck.

RE: NEW H9 P51 Mustang 60 ARF
This ARF has been out of stock for several months now and will not hit the shelves till end of May . Could it be that H9 is trying to so solve all these issues . Unusual for a current production item to disapear for such a lengthy period of time unless serios changes are being made. Has anybody enquired or heard anything ?

RE: Sig King Kobra
Came across this thread by chance, since I'm a great fan of the KK I had to come in defense of what is probably one of the best performing rc planes ever designed. If you want a speed demon the best way to go is OS91fx with a nelson Ultrathrust muffler . http://www.pspec.com/details.asp?ProdID=61&category=8 With a 12X10 APC this should give upwards of 12,200 rpm. If you add retracts your KK will match or outperform any Patriot or F-20 .
