RE: Mato Sherman, M4A1 (76) EL MOD F.O. Pics & Video
The price comparisons are misleading. Each Tamiya tank costs an arm and a leg. The Elmod electronics are transferable between tanks.
Did you every think you could do the same thing with Tamiiya electronicis??? They already come in plastic cases. The only down side is you can't re-program the sounds. (John Ackerman's Panzer III)

RE: Remote control Tx/Rx
There are no Tx/Rx upgrades for HL tanks.
I think Darkith's DBC RC2HL DOES work with regular RC Gear. $55 ain't bad vs El Mod $$$$$$
For use with the stock Heng Long Smoke&Sound ESC/sound board, and standard 4-5 channel RC TX/RX (27mhz, 40mhz, 50mhz, 72mhz, 75mhz, 900mhz, 2.4ghz). Great for replacing the stock 27mhz radio with your own computer radio, and permits more tanks to battle together!
http://darkith.dyndns.org/~darkith/html/dbc.shtml

RE: sherman suspension
The scuttlebutt is there was a 105mm / HVSS located at a museum near Tamiya. Sticklers for accuracy and easy availability, and you can understand why they chose this back in the 70's - WAY before anyone was thinking about the crazy things we do with the tanks. Personally I think they have since avoided the VVSS suspension because they new within a month of it being available, there would be cheap knockoff. If you notice, since Tamiya came out with the Sherman most large scale tanks have sported the easier/cheaper torsion bar suspensions. The Bandai Panzer IV was a joke. You have to look at relatively recent HL's Panzer IV to find a tank that wasn't torsion bar.

RE: tank carriers
Alan Haskell built those carriers (and the tanks!) but he never had any plans. He just sized them to fit each tank. On later models he made the center section scissor up so the tank would sit flat when carried, but would raise up to keep the tracks clear of the carrier so the tank will not 'fly' off the table (Panther, third in from the right). If you have any other question, let me know. - somebody else might have drawn up plans, but not that I've heard of -

RE: The Shermans are in at Mato
NOTICE - PET PEEVE AHEAD[:)] When taking pictures for size comparison purposes, PLEASE shoot the subject(s) head on. Angle / perspective shots are prettier, but make judging size / scale more subjective. Bubbajoexx 's top down comparison of the two 50 cal's is a great example - side by side, head on, neutral background. The only thing missing is a scale. The front quarter shots of the two Shermans do not make it easy to judge sizes. While it does look like the Mato Sherman's gun shield is bigger, by placing in front of Nick turret you are exaggerating any difference. Sorry to complain, but I've been drafting in 2D and 3D for over 30 years, and I've seen too many 'pros' screw up trying to size things off of photos. NOW BACK TO YOUR REGULARLY SCHEDULED THREAD.....

RE: The Shermans are in at Mato
Its a bit of a contradiction don't you think. Is that what you mean by Matos listening ?
Anybody else out there design or build things for a living? Just because you draw or specify something does NOT mean that is the way it is built. Usually it is for cost, but there can be a multitude of other reasons. The fact that Mato attempted a Sherman with VVSS - and not just a Tamiya HVSS knock off - must mean they were listening to someone.

RE: Sherman 75mm recoil
When battling in the CA or AZ sun, you rarely see the gun flash. You could hang the flash out of the gun barrel, but most don't like the orange "tounge" sticking out all the time. Gun recoil is helpful, but stock Sherman does not have it. I agree that for night battles everyone should have a flash unit. That is part of the fun, watching the gun flashes going back and forth. Otherwise you can just hide in he shadows and blast away undetected. For those with the emitter in the barrel, you could clamp the flash unit on the barrel - same as the stock Tamiya emitter. Doesn't look 'ugly' at night, and puts everyone on an equal footing.

RE: Sherman Pershing DMD MFU
This is off the SEAD website http://www.sead.us/technology2.html Pershing MF unit combined with Sherman DMD unit Tests on the usage of the Pershing MF unit to the Sherman DMD unit has been tested and here are the findings: This test was conducted for the purpose of seeing if the Pershing Multi-Function Unit #7255090 is compatible with the Sherman DMD Motor Control Unit 7255035. Test was performed in a existing Sherman using a JR Quatro radio with an R700 receiver. Initial start up was good and standard Tamiya protocol for programming was followed before any initial testing. Upon programming and starting the tank, sounds of the Pershing's V8 Ford engine were emitted from the Sherman speaker box. Upon attempting to drive the tank, it was noted that it exhibited the normal Pershing characteristic of having to put the tank in gear by flicking the reverse trim tab and cracking the throttle. Upon returning the trim tab to normal, the tank exhibited normal Pershing sounds and performance. The following is the Performance Check lists: Forward / Reverse: Ok Left / Right Turning: Ok Turret Rotation: Ok Gun Elevation: Ok Machine Gun sound: Ok Gun Fire Sound: Ok Gun Recoil: There was no movement or "Jerk" noticed by the drive motors when the gun was fired Engine Sound: Good Drive Line Sound: Typical Pershing Wheel / Track noise heard Over all Speaker Performance: Slightly higher than normal pitch sound emitted from Sherman Speaker

RE: Emitter Replacement Advice
From and old article on the SEAD website (http://www.sead.us/technology.html)
Replacement LED: Had an opportunity to test a Radio-Shack replacement IR LED for the Tamiya Battle System and the results are compareable.

Both the Tamiya LED and the Radio-Shack [part no. 276-143 (high intensity)] LED have the same wavelength emission and similar range
(up to 30m). So as a local (and cheap) replacement LED, this is a good alternative to the Tamiya LED.

Actually any IR LED at 940nm will work also.
Hope this helps. Let me know what works, and I'll add it to me "data base".

RE: RCCOMMAND
Don't be so quick to put him down
Some of these complaints go back to July and August. I would not call that "quick" Look, I don't even have horse in this race - nothing on order from RC COMMAND. First, If you are a vendor taking payment from people you have an obligation to communicate with them. People are still spooked by the other good vendors gone bad - go back and look at all the people who vouched for BYA before they tanked - pun intended[:)]. Second, who ever has been logging on could have posted SOMETHING. The last post was almost a month ago. I remember the story of the kid who had both arms cut off in a farm accident, and still managed to pick up pencil with his mouth to dial 911..... If you feel the need, you will find a way. A little communication - from the source - goes a long way. ONE short post could have cleared this all up and bought him some time and sympathy. Don't expect others to read your mind. For some the money spent on tanks is pocket change. For others they have to scrimp and save for every last nut bolt and screw. Do not be so cavalier with other peoples money or time. (plus I don't recall having seen an RC COMMAND comment regarding the DARKITH Battle Unit controversy.)

RE: RCCOMMAND
[&o][&o][&o][&o] too bad for EVERYONE concerned..... Went though something like this with a previous vendor. While I don't think there was any malice involved, it still took me almost a year to get everything I paid for. Hopefully this works out better for all sides.

RE: Accurized M4A3 (75) W
Craig, Really like how the texture turned out. Sean's Sherman is due for an overhaul - good time to update and "accurize" it! Did you use the metal parts for the small stuff on top of the turret? Knowing how you like to 'drive on the roof' I would recommend getting as many of the small metal parts as you can[;)]

RE: Accurized M4A3 (75) W
Craig, Nice job on the elevation mod. Where did you get the aluminum barrel? Regarding the turret mod - Are you planning to glue a nut into those plastic blocks? Would make a difference after the 10th or 20th time you have removed the screws.
