RE: The Long Awaited Ultra Sport 60 Build Thread
I've bought a ready to fly US60 off ebay and it came with fixed taildragger gear.It just does not look quite right.Would retrofitting retracts be too hard to consider?I've got a spare set of Robart pneumatics that would work fine. Would using straight wire struts in retracts be ok?Or must you have the coil in them?

Citabria wing struts
I've bought a 3/4 built, part covered Bud Nosen Citabria off Ebay for $70. Bargain or what! What is missing are the instructions or a set of plans.I'm concerned about how to make and attach the wing strut.I take it that with a plane this big,the wing struts would be fully functional. Could any of you guys out there who have built the citabria mind posting some photos of the attachments and a brief description of how they are constructed? Thanks Tom.

RE: My R720 Synth Receiver no longer works
I checked the writing on the receiver case ,it is a R77s not a R720 and sure enough it says SPCM and the transmitter was on PPM.I changed the transmitter to SPCM and the problem is solved. In my defence ,I can categorically state that I have never changed the modulation settings on this model memory,One of my friends must have mucked around with the transmitter.Oh well, you live and learn. At least it wasn't a problem that occured while airbourne. Then I would have been truly stumped.

My R720 Synth Receiver no longer works
I went to fly my plane today and was surprised to find that the receiver a synthesized Jr R720 wasn't working.Apart from unplugging the battery nothing different had happened to the plane since I used it last the week before. I tested the transmitter with some of my other planes with crystal receivers and had no problems with them. I have followed the manual to reset the receiver frequency but only get the slow flash of the LED which means it has't locked on.Any ideas anyone?

RE: Model Design 96
Is the white area on the rondel masked out when spraying the blue? If not, you'll need heaps of coats for coverage.I've had a frustrating time when trying to spray ******** rondels.I just could not get the stencils to line up. When I was finally gave up,I had sprayed so many coats that there was a definte step between the camouflage colour and the rondels.I then used the compass and ink bow method.Acceptable for a sport scale Spitfire and they took half the time.Next time I will spray a white undercoat where the roundels and Fuselage codes are ,mask them out, spray the camouflage and hopefully the number or coats needed to get good coverage will come down as well. The Plastic Modelling fraternity offer good advice when it comes to applying colour and markings in the various magazines. They mostly refer to using decals but the problems of the undercolour showing through the markings is a common one.

I've been following your progress and the results look great.I may have missed the reference to the the paint brand and type.Could you please detail the Paint, and it's availability. Do they colour match from the miliary paint codes? What sort of quantites is the minimum amount they sell? What is the final Matt coat? 2-Pack Auto Epoxy?Cheers Tom.

RE: I need P-40 tailwheel detail.
Thanks for the info. I'm buying a prebuilt Brian Taylor P40 and the bloke who made it opted for a fixed U/C.Would it be hard to retro fit a set of retracts? Specifically what timber/ply size is recommended in the plan for the retract mounts? It is a really well built plane but I think the fixed U/C doesn't do it justice.

RE: Adjusting valves and rockers on Four strokes.
Thanks for all the tips.I opened up one the engine's cog wheel housing and saw that there is a dot on one of the cogs. On this engine the cam at TDC meant the dot was 3-4 teeth just to the left of its TDC position. When is the dot meant to be at it's TDC?Cheers Tom[:D]

Adjusting valves and rockers on Four strokes.
On reading a lot of these posts,I keep seeing terms like "the valves were a few teeth out" or " the rocker arms need adjusting".Gee!I'm stumped. Is there a book that gives a cause and effect on the intricacies of Four stroke tuning?I've just mastered the art of tuning the low speed idle neeedle!I've got 3 ASP's a .30,a .65 and a 1.20.They all run great but I'm dreading the day I have to open them up and muck around with valves, cogs and pushrods!

O.S.VR77 as a propellor motor.
There is an OS VR77 ducted fan motor on ebay that I am watching.Has anyone run this engine as a Propellor engine? I'm interested in what prop size and BHP/RPM figures you would get.I suppose that it would be noisier than your bog standard Sport motorr. I can't believe the size of the carby on this beast.[:D]

I don't know if the fibreglass fuselage is Sig.The Plans definetely are. They just haven't been copied fully. The fuse when laid out over the plan is a pretty good match.Sig's website doesn't list the plans. Would this be the same size as the Great Planes Skybolt maybe?

Where to get Sig Skybolt 3 views or plans?
I've purchased a Sig Skybolt fibreglass fuselage and plan off ebay. The plan however is not complete. It lacks a full fuselage side view ,which is a bummer as the interplane struts are cut off 3/4 of the way down (they are not even full constuction detailed, only a dotted outline),no C.G indication or undercarriage detail. Most annoying off all is the lack of a top view of the horizontal stab and elevators. What is the recommended engine range for this kit. Does anyone have a complete plan and instruction book there would be willing to sell? Thanks Tom.[&:]

My MDS always started backwards when the throttle barrel was less than 1/3 open. I simply opened the throttle a fraction or flicked the prop backwards.

RE: p51B kits
I checked the measurements of the formers against the side view of the fuselage. On my plan at least there is only discrepency of 2mm on the formers under the tailplane. You must remember that the formers as drawn need to be wrapped in a layer of 1/8" balsa. They are one of the reasons I will use lite-ply for my formers.I intend to redraw them to finish size and disregard the 1/8" balsa wrapping. If you asked someone to design a scale plane up, and use the most fussiest, fiddliest and complicated construction method they could devise,I doubt you could beat Dave Vaughan's example.

RE: Tips on running an O.S 61v
No,that's a perry carb. The ASP I've got has a needle valve poking out of both ends.Where on a normal carby you have the low speed mixture control screw, this carb has a full ratcheted additional needle valve, with the idle mixture screw in the end of that needle valve.

the piston is just like your photo and the cayby is from an ASP.61. There is a second ratchet needle valve assembly, with a second adjusting screw in the needle valve itself on the side where the servo arm attaches.

Tips on running an O.S 61v
I just bought an O.S 61 v and a tuned pipe real cheap on ebay and i have a few questions. There was no exhast header supplied, are they still available? As this is a rear exhaust engine and I intend to mount it inverted,I forsee problems with the fuel tank position. In order to clear the pipe the tank will be sitting real low in relation to the centre of the needlebar, any suggestion? I've never used a tuned pipe before,so what should I be looking for to know when the pipe is in the right position?Just a big increase in revs?Finally/the carb supplied is not stock,i think it is an ASP.On the barrel arm side it has 2 adjustment screws! A big needlevalve looking contraption with a smaller concentric screw inside it.Which one do I tune first? Thanks. / ?

Realflight G4.5 add ons problems
I recently purchased G4 and used the free upgrade to G4.5.No problem.I then downloaded the free add ons and saved them in cache/data as suggested. No extra planes or fields show up on the menus when running the game. I looked up the Knife Edge web site and checked out the gallery for the add ons.Apart from the Harrier my sim only seems to run the standard G4.5 planes and fields. On launching the game I get a series of error messages beginning with " error opening o:\ scenery disk6\image\rfep.1.dckinfo' 11 messages later the game runs.I've emailed the G4 tech support but they are as useless as tits on a bull. A week later and still no reply. Can anyone offer any help?
