Additional Remote Receiver flashing
I have a JR 9303 2.4 system (not converted) with a R921 Receiver. Though I have not had an issue with 2.4, I decided to add an additional remote receiver. However, when binding, the remote receiver that I added continues to flash after binding is complete. The system binds the main receiver and the secondary, but the additional remote receiver that I added continues to flash. OK...More information....The system is hooked up to a Smart-Fly Pro with Super Regulator. Batteries are two 7.4 volt Li-Ion's. Now when I by-pass the smart fly system and use a 4.8 volt battery, both remotes go solid. When I connect the Smart-Fly System the remote receiver I added flashes...Then if I disconnect the remote that came with the R921 Receiver, the one I added stops flashing.. I went over my 9303 CD, but can't find much other than to follow normal procedures for binding. [sm=confused.gif] Thank you, Patrick Lanfri

RE: FX3D-2009 Jacksonville Florida
Forgot to mention that our concession stand will be open during the event. We always open the concession stand early for coffee, donuts, and sometimes a breakfast of some sort and serve hamburgers and dogs for lunch. I know Jeff has got a dinner planned one night, and if you don't like to cook there is everything from McDonalds, Cross Creek (Steaks / great burgers), Subways, Larry's Giant Sub's, and Mexican food not too far from the field...or what I have learned "down the road a piece".... If you drive an RV and want to have hook-up's with cable TV, there is a NICE RV Park right at Hwy 295 at Lem Turner. Your welcome to drop your trailer off at the field and then rough it at the RV park. Normally Jeff has his RV at the event and has some night activities thats worth hanging around. Night flying at the field is ok, but we want to be a good neighbor and fly electric at night only. If you want to overnight it in a motel, we will have information, maybe a discounted hotel, listed on our website as we get closer to the event. If you look close at one of the pic's you will find that at the FX3D-2008 they went for a record hover....Don't think you have to 3D to fly at this event. Lots of guys just flying their birds and enjoying a great time. Patrick President, Gateway R/C www.gatewayrc.org Celebrating 41years as a Club

Same place as last year. The property where the field is located has been sold to the VA for use as a National Cemetery, but we don't expect, nor does the VA expect, that they will need the field for about 5 years. We are working with the City to relocate the City Park Flying Field to another location, which according to City ordinance is required. [:D]

RE: How sensitive is the magnet sensor position?
I've owned two ZDZ engines, a 60cc and now a Super 80, and I have always set the timing to the manufactures recomendation. The settings have always worked just fine, but I have always used a Pitts muffler and a two blade propeller. The thought of changing the timing was not even considered then, but I recently changed to a canister muffler and a 3 blade propeller, and I'm experiencing some mid-range issues. ie the reason for considering the timing change a an experiement prior to making any changes to the header.. ie my posted question to mike. I got a reply from Mike at RCS Patrick, With the TR-80, you MUST use the wraparound header at its full length. DO NOT SHORTEN IT. We use this setup with the 26x12 2 blade and get 6400rpm. The 24x12 should be close. The silencer must be getting cooled sufficiently to work properly as well. Please look at tell me what carb is installed on the engine. I hope it is a Walbro WJ71. Let me know. Thanks, Mike Dooley

ZDZ Super 80 Mid-range
I have a ZDZ Super 80 with header and canister muffler (From RC Showcase) and a 24x12 composite 3-blade propeller. I just changed out the Tennison carb with a Walbro carb, but I'm still having some mid-range issues. A group of us tried adjusting both the low speed and high speed needles, but could not smooth out the midrange. I've been told, by friends, that to either shorten the header, or shorten the exhaust tube (which is original and still kind of long) coming out the back of the canister muffler. But prior to doing any cutting, which we don't know would fix or cause more problems, I thought I would ask for HELP!. Help! Thanks, Patrick I got an email reply from Mike With the TR-80, you MUST use the wraparound header at its full length. DO NOT SHORTEN IT. We use this setup with the 26x12 2 blade and get 6400rpm. help wing tube replacement won't fit
I just received my replacement wing tube from Aero-Works and it's so tight I'm afraid to force it in fear of spliting the outter tube. It took about 10 minutes of twisting and pushing to make it 1/2 way...I was afraid to keep going in fear of spliting the fuse pipe. I noticed that the replacement pipe seems heavier than my original and has something like foam or something in the center...ie you cant see thru the pipe.... I bought the 75cc Yak 54 used about a year ago, I don't know how old it is. Are all the tube sizes throughout the production run the same OD? Thank you, Patrick

Aero-Towing
I'm in the process of setting up a 1/4 Scale Hanger 9 J-3 Cub with a Zenoah G-26 as an Aero-Tug. The standard propeller for the G-26 is a 16x8. I'm curious what other Aero-Tug owners have found, did you change to a different pitch or diameter propeller for Aero-Towing? What was your normal propeller that you used for sport flighting? What propeller did you change to, if you changed at all, and what results if any? Thanks Patrick

RE: Spectrum dsp75 digital servo?
Unless they have reset the zero deadband, which you can't, I would take them back to your LHS. I had 4 of them in a 32oz Park Flyer and the weight of the control surfaces caused all of them to flutter. They tell you that they will stop once in flight, but they don't. I do not recommend the DS-75's

RE: CM Pro Discus CS
I have not seen the decals on your bird, but if the decal looks like it is the type with adhesive backing you might try very carefully heating the decal with a hair dryer gun. Be careful not to over heat the fuselage, you might damage it. Sometimes the glue will reactivate when heated therefore making it easier to pull off. good luck. [:D]

RE: Reactor or Ultimate bipe by great planes.
I have had my Reactor Bipe for about two months now and have thoroughly enjoyed it. Construction was simple and very easy to understand. One of the best covering jobs I have had in an electric plane. Prior to installing the recommended RimFire 35/36/1200, I tried my Park 480 1020 kv and a friends 10BL just to see how it handled. The Park 480 fit just fine under the cowl, but only had enough power to perform Sport Flying. It would hover, but only at full power. The 10BL fit under the cowl, but the length of the propeller shaft protruded about 3/8". If I was to keep the 10BL on the plane, it would be easy to cut down the motor box for a proper fit. The 10BL was more than enough power to fly the plane and to perform any 3D or Pattern maneuver. I purchased the recommended RimFire 35/36/1200 and upgraded the recommended 35amp ESC to an Electrify Silver ESC 45amp. Servos were Hitec HS65HB. 3S1P Thunder Power 2070mah battery. I tried two propellers; 11x5.5 and an 11x4.7 slow flight. The best performance came with the 11x4.7 APC Slow Flight. Depending on use, I get about 7 minutes of flight on the battery. Recharge takes anything from 1100 mah to 1500 mah (On a windy day) and when I do a lot of hovering. Flight: More than enough power to weight ratio for any maneuver. Slight push to the belly on knife edges, easy to correct with mix. The plane cg'd just great (I like a little tail heavy for 3D). The long fuse reminds me of my 2 meter pattern plane, and the Bipe holds a nice level line just like one. Flat spins are easy with full throws. Inverted flat spins are a bit touchier, but it is a Bipe. Slow flight is like a foamy, very easy to hold and harrier to land. PROS: Again easy construction. Instructions were simple and easy to follow. I like the fact that the wings are all glued in place. (They won't be coming off in flight, only if there is uncontrolled flight into terrain). The cowl and battery hatch are held on by magnets. Covering job on my aircraft was excellent; I hardly had to use an iron or gun. Large control services for 3D and a long fuselage for precision acrobatics. Good color scheme, easy to make out in flight. Con: NO TAIL WHEEL. A washer is provided as a skid, boo. I installed a dubro tail wheel assembly, it added a small about a weight, but again I like my planes a little tail heavy. The fuselage is a little skinner than other aircraft (Extra's) therefore the battery compartment is a bit tight and removing a battery that is held in by Velcro is difficult. I now use a Velcro strap so that it’s easier to remove the battery. My landing gear former came loose after a couple landings, I used some med ca to reattach and reinforce for former. The cowl openings are too small, which does not allow enough air to flow for cooling. I cut a triangle out on the lower front part of the cowl to aid in cooling, which has worked. Since I installed the Hitec HS65HB, the cut-outs for the servo were too small. Easy to fix with a hobby knife. I highly recommend the Reactor Bipe 3D.

Spektrum DSP75 Digital Servo Chatter
I just installed four Spektrum DSP75 digital servo's on my park flyier and when provided power they ALL start shaking. It shakes so bad the aircraft will move on the ground.....They stop shaking when you hold the control service, but will start shaking again within a few seconds after you let go. I read some posts on RC Universe that this apears to be a common problem with the DSP75, and the Horizon Tec advised that it was normal. Well the Spektrum programer does not adjust deadband, and Horizon Tec advised that its already set to it widest setting, so don't bother with a Spektrum servo programer. They recommend that I move the control rod closer to the center of the servo, not too good if you want to fly 3D.....I'm now checking to see if a Hitec servo programer, which will adjust deadbands, will work on a Spektrum servo. Hitec Servo programer will not program the Spektrum Servos... We videoed the test flight with the servos. If you keep speed up the servos do stop shaking, but the moment that you want to hover or slow flight the plane, they start shaking. And the plane will react to the shaking servos. I've removed the servos and will be taking them back.

Hanger 9 1/4 Scale J-3 ARF 106"
Here is the new Hanger 9 J-3 Cub 1/4 scale 106" ARF with a Zenoah G-26 and a Jtecrc.com Pitts muffler. If you love Cubs, you will love this one. Construction is great and the covering hardly had any wrinkles. The layout for the interior hid all but the throttle servo. I moved the pilot to the front to hide the throttle servo and make easy access to the receiver switch, which is below the back seat. Since Zenoah's require cutting out the carb side of the cowl, I didn't want to cut the living heck out of the left side of the cowl to make room for the stock muffler, so I upgraded to a pitts muffler by Jtecrc.com. Yes, there are other single down spouted mufflers, but their too loud for me. The propeller is is a Biella composite 16x8 black with yellow tips from http://www.aircraftinternational.com/. CG called for 4.5 inches aft of the leading edge at the root, and with the G26 she came out 4 1/4". On first flight she reqired 3 clicks of up, no other triming was required. The G26 provides pleanty of power, and no ripping with the Biella propeller. Might cut down the exhaust pipes a bit, but waiting on Jtecrc.com response on effects. She fly's just like a Cub, what can I say.

Purchased a used airframe and have installed a ZDZ Super 80. A friends 100cc Aeroworks Yak has an inside front baffle plate that he cut out to direct air to the cylinders for better cooling. It appears that the 75 does not have that face plate, is the face plate for the 75cc Yak available from Aeroworks? If not, what are your recommedation? I have friends recommend building a face plate with a cut out directing the air, and another recommend cutting an opening in the lower part of the cowl to allow air directly on that part of the cylinder that is covered by the cowl. signed: Don't want to get burned up..... I've checked our events for this year at Gateway. We hosted two events at the field in March, both I CD'd. I don't expect that the Club 40 Pylon racing will return and the Spring Fling date is flexable. Our club meeting is this Tuesday, even if it is decided later that the Huckfest should be held some where else, I can reserve a date now and cancel it at anytime if it is decided to host the event at another field. I will not apply for an AMA Sanction until it has been confirmed that Jacksonville will host. Obviously you can see some of our members are posting, and are interested in hosting the event at Gateway. But since I'm President, and not dictator, it still has to go before a club meeting. Loud music during the day is no problem, thats why we have a PA system. Yeah, if your thinking of playing loud music at night thru our PA System, then we might not be a good choice. Flying at night with small electric's that don't make much noise is no problem, we would not get complaints, but adding music at night thru the PA system....That would be a no no. Patrick

RE: Florida Huckfest Fly-in! Are you in?
You might want to check the date of this years Winter Festival of Giants when considering a date for this Huckfest. It's normally around the end of FEB, we hosted it last year but its back in Deland for 2008. Regarding the night flying for Saturday nite. We can probably stretch the rules a bit, that is if were talking about small electrics. If were talking Glow, Gas, or large 80" Giant scale electrics that make as much noise as a 40 size trainer, that we couldnt do. To give you some idea on our field, if you don't have google earth. Clubhouse with concesson stand and modern bathrooms. 100' long covered pavillion, 450' x 65' asphalt runway along side a 550' grass runway. PA system and a bunch of tables. Lots of area for campers, RV's and trailers. As I said, we hosted the Winter Festival of Giants last year and had about 25 RV's. We could easily hold more. Now don't think that just because your coming to Florida that its warm in Jan & Feb, this is not Ft. Lauderdale or Miami. Ocala, Daytona, and Jacksonville will drop down into the high 30's during that time of year. I've been know to wear my thermals in the winter while flying at the field. But I'm a nut case. Patrick

As President of the Club I'm always interested in a new type Fly-in. Our next Club meeting is this Tuesday, I will bring up the subject and see if there is interest. If your interested in looking at our field, and have Google earth, type in our address at 3471 Lannie Rd Jacksonville FL and you will see our field. Our website is www.gatewayrc.org. The only limitation our field has is: Flying time: Sat-0900 to sunset and Sun 1000 to Sunset. We have modern clubhouse with concession stand and indoor bathrooms. The only shower is outside with a garden hose that is hooked up to a shower head.....In January or Feburary????? I don't think so. My last questions; This is a Fly-in...No competition....Are is there some type of "Fun" type of competition with awards? What has been the standard pilot fee?
