hangar 9 F22 raptor rebuild
After buying the Hangar 9 under powered F-22 Raptor, Trainer, ARF, [:'(] I tried flying this thing several times. It would not do a loop, would drop like a rock when power was cut off. Landed like a sack of potatoes. I broke the front landing gear the first landing (so did everyone else), The second flight wasent too bad but figured out to throw away the 3 bladed prop and go with a APC. Could almost do a loop now. I then cracked the fuselage almost in half on a landing and after beefing it up I tried it again. Coming in for a landing was always a thrill, full throttle, 6 inches off the ground (hope for NO cross winds) and cut it and let it fall to the ground. I ended up cracking the body in half where I repaired it. I was so flustrated with the F-22 Craptor, I gave up with it. Took it home and stripped all the good parts off and tried to sell them on Ebay. Well no one wanted them, even a $10.00 price tag for both wings, tail feathers, canopy, hatch at several swap meets still no takers. During the winter I decided to give it one more try. Some PVC drain pipe and what you see below pictures is my new creation[:D] (ps it flew better) [&:]

RE: 2948 Hellcat!
"No balsa plane in combat takes a HIT and keep on flying!! " I beg to differ, the early Pica 1/12 scale planes were all balsa and very tough planes. The Corsair and P-51B had many hits and would still stay up in the air. Of course a strip of carbon fiber on the leading edges did help allot[:D] Larry

RE: 2948 Hellcat!
Dont have a clue as to who made it. The engine may be a OS the square carb is the older design carb. Just go fly it. My feeling is it was a combat plane from the old days and they were built to take hits and still fly. Good luck Larry

RE: SIG RASCAL 40
As I stated in my post, this is going to be a give away prize at one of our events. So I wont know what motor will be used. I can mill out the slotted holes without a issue, just wanted to know if they were slotted. thanks for the measurements. Larry Barnes

RE: SIG RASCAL 40
I do have the aluminum stock to make them and most 46 size engines have the same spacing for the motor mount holes. Where the orig mounts slotted for the motor holes??? Also to save time, do you have the center hole measurement for the beam holes [:)] larry

RE: SIG RASCAL 40
Yep, I knew how they mounted. I got this ARF for a give away prize for one of our events. I didnt want to coble or have a make shift looking item on the new ARF. That is why i was trying to get the orig parts from Sig. It seems that they have a issue with parts and replacement items for the kit and ARF's that they are selling. It seems that when they took over the line they forgot about having replacement parts available[&o] I also have a friend that needs a wing kit for his Sig Something special and it wont be available untill fall 2012. I'll keep looking.... Thanks for the response. Larry

RE: SIG RASCAL 40
Thanks for the info, but this Rascal takes a special motor mount. I went to the Horizon site and looked at them and didnt find one that would work. You can not use a regular motor mount directly to the firewall. It needs to be mounted on a wood beam that is in place inside the cowl. You only have 1 option to mount your motor upside down. Larry

Just tried it again but at a lower current setting. I was charging at 1.6A. I reduced it down to 1.0A and it seems to work on the battery I have on it now. I am going to experiment with it to see where the limit is. Thanks for the advice. Larry

IMAX B6AC charger issue
Just got a new Imax B6AC charger 4 weeks ago. Was using it to balance some 3S lipo's. After I attached the Lipo at started charging 1 minute went by and I got the following error: BREAK DOWN [:-] Went to the manual and it states the following: THE CHARGER HAS MALFUNCTIONED FOR SOME REASON. SEEK PROFESSIONAL ADVICE [:o] Well, I called some of my buddies who have the same units and I guess they are not professional enough (nice guys though). Looking for any professional that has an idea what is going on. [:)] As always your help is appreciated. Larry

BLINDFAITHNOGOD, your hellcat looks like a Zigg's original. Did you build he cowl from foam? I have the kit without the cowl and am looking for one. I may have to make my own out of foam. BTW, no fuel, electric on mine. Not interested in combat (unless someone pi$$ed me off)[:D] larry

Yeah, I know I could and most likely will. The ESC's I seen were for ducted fan units and the extra leads were to make CG'n easier. I need some more ESC's anyway and figured if I could order them i would. Larry

RE: Replacement motor for Pz T-28
About 3 yeas ago I went with the 3542 1000Kvr. Lots of power but as stated in earlier post the motor mount will need to be modified. Here is my testing on this motor: 11.1V 30C - 10x7 APCE - 46oz thrust - 268w - 26A. This will make your T-28 go vertical. the stock motor is only 168w with the 9.5x7.5 prop. After about 4 flights the motor mount gave out and I purchased a CNC aluminum motor mount on Ebay for $19.00. The vibrations went away and I have also since then converted another T-28 with the same motor but 1100Kvr. The testing results: 3542/1100Kvr 11.1v 30c - 10x7 APCE - 59oz thrust - 412w - 36A. With the additional 7oz thrust it flys great. I do really suggest the CNC aluminum mount. Also, check you ESC some of the older ESC were 30A newer were 25A. I wold suggest a 40A esc with any of the above motors. The motor is about 2mm longer than the stock so cutting our the cowl to clear the front of the motor will be necessary. This is not a issue and doesnt take away from the apperance of the plane. larry

RE: Painting foam and balsa
Thanks for the link, but it is 2 yrs old and I have looked for a source of the Styro Spray and have come up with a dead end. One link takes me to a website that doesnt have a order form or prices. The other is busted. It looks like the styro Spray is the ticket but dont know if I really need 2, 1 gal containers of it. I have found a product called finish cure epoxy. This stuff is great, thin and spreads easily over glass cloth. Dont know if I want to use this on a foam plane due to the cost for the stuff. Anyone got any other products they recommend? Larry

Painting foam and balsa
I just picked up a old Zigg's orig Corsair. It's blue foam and balsa. I want to finish it off and will be using electric for power. Trying to decide weather to cover it with low temp monocote or paint it. I know I will need to close the grain on the balsa but I'm wondering about the foam. Any have a technique to fill the tiny holes in the foam so paint will look good? I have used Acrylic paint on EPP foam (closed cells) and then cover the paint with floor polish and this will gloss it up and harden the paint. Any ideas?? Larry

After thinking about it, with both TX's acting close to the same I dont think I have a RF output issue. Yeah, I know about the model eraseing when sent in. I have a spreadsheet program with all my 17 model settings. It makes it much easier to re input the values when it comes back. Thanks for the response. Larry

Tracker III RF output.
I have 2 Tracker III's. One I have used for about 4 years now and the other is brand new (purchased this year and stored it as a backup). Fly last week I lost a plane in the trees due to los of control. After retreiving the plane I notice that the left aileron was up. The plane did a quick left roll and then it came back to me, I was just about to give up elevator to get some altitude and it again rolled left and went into the tree tops. After geting the plane back to the pit area I did a range check and found that at 20ft with antenna down the serfos and motor went nuts. Thinking I had a bad receiver I replace it with one that I know is good (hitech). Did a range check again and same thing. Now I tok the brand new one out of the box and programed it for the plane. Range check seemed to improve but still glitched at 30ft then locked in and was good out to 75ft with antenna down. I then retried my older TX, it would go out to the 75ft mark and slightly twitch. I thought I read somewhere the you performed a range check with 1 section extended on the antenna, read the manual and nothing there, did a search on Polks thread nothing there either. Anyone know about the anetnna issue. larry

RE: Sharing Airtronics sailplanes
I got one for sale. 90% built. This project is not mine but a older club member that is selling all his gliders and kits. I need to get the plans for it as they were not included in the box. One thing I noticed is the wing tube on the fuse is about 1/8" off and will need to be taken out and repositioned so it will line up with the wing (not a big deal). I have posted pics. If someone is interested in buying it I will post it on the RCU selling site. Larry Barnes

RE: Do you use FrSky Modules and Receivers?
Since you asked if anyone else is using Frsky I will ask all of you a question. I converted one of my Tx's to Frsky 2.4Ghz Tx module. Using the 8 channel Frsky RX I am getting jerky or steping servo movement on all servos. When I reduce the RF power for range check the stepping goes away. My thought is I'm over powering the Rx with the TX too close. Anyone exp[erience this? Larry
