JATO Available
Hi Ya'll! Got a red JATO Monday and after looking at it I decided to stay with 1/8 scale buggies. Absolutely no slam against the JATO - it's high quality and looks great. Just not for me. I need to have more room among all the components that I get on the bigger cars - easy for me to work on them. Anyway, before I send it back I thought I'd see if anyone who was having a hard time getting one in their area would be interested in buying this one. I have $372 in the car ($360 car + $12 shipping) and that's what I would get refunded if I send it back. I'll sell it for that to save me the shipping back to the dealer and add whatever shipping is to you. I can send it COD. All I did was open the box and take the body out of the plastic bag. All documentation & parts are still sealed in their bags. PM me with any questions, I can send pics. I'll be back in town from a business trip on Friday and will return it to the dealer then unless anyone wants it. Thx! Lee

RE: Official Mayhem Thread
Neat! I like the longer engine mounts. They recognize the flexing problem that some of us have been having. I just finished a longitudinal brace that runs from the rear wing/brace mount up to the front brace mount. Just clears throttle/brake servo arms. Made it out of aluminum angle. Not very pretty but it works! No flex at all!

RE: mayhem rtr won't start
Sounds exactly like what I went thru. Then I got a buddy who flies RC to help. He knew immediately by the sound that it was too lean with the factory recommended settings. Ended up setting the high speed needle to 4.5 turns out and the low speed 3.5 turns out before it would start. Also, after we ran a few tanks, leaning both needles out a little each time, he noticed a screw missing from the engine starter back plate. The other three were loose. Tightened all down (the missing one was rolling around in the chassis) and immediately ran better. Point here is check for air leaks through the system that might lean the fuel/air mixture. By the way, all this was done with the 6.5 carb insert. It's running great now - I can hardly control it! I can't imagine how it runs with the 9.0 insert! Lee

RE: Official Mayhem Thread
leejax - I've noticed this also. I causes the clutch bell gear to move back and forth relative to the spur gear. When I put a steel straight edge along the bottom of the chassis, there's about a 3/32" drop from one end to the other. I've also had to elongate the rear body mounting hole forward about an 1/8" because the car has apparently "bowed up" enough to shorten the relative distance between the body mounting studs. I don't do jumps either!? Been trying to see how I could fabricate a stiffener to basically go from front to rear and attach to the existing stiffener mounts. Anyone ever heard of such a thing?

Thx RC and Giles . . . By the way, maybe everyone already knew this, but as recomended by Frankie at Full Throttle Hobbies, I used the Mugen MX clutch, springs, bearings and bell housing on the Mayhem when the Sportwerks were unavailable. It's good to have a list of alternative parts. Lee

RE: Official Mayhem Thread
Need some help . . . I'm replacing the spur gear. I have the center diff removed, the brake pads removed and that's where I'm stuck. Can't figure out how to get the brake rotor out of the way (can't get the rotor positioner off, the screw is unreachable) and then, after that, not really sure how to proceed. Maybe I'm headed in the wrong direction. If anyone can save me from a painful learning experience then speak right up! Thx, Lee p.s. Of course the Mayhem is out front!!! Good pics . . .

RE: Official Mayhem Thread
For Performula: I wrestled with the break in mixture on mine also. Finally asked a fellow here at work who flys RC planes and helicopters to help. He immediately disgnosed it as a lean condition and we finally started break in with the HSN out 4.5 turns! A couple of tanks later, he noticed the backplate screws had backed out and thought this may have contributed to the lean condition. Tightened the screws and instantly ran smoother. I was not aware of how sensitive these little motort were to the smallest adjustments. By the way, as suggested elsewhere on this thread, Frankie at Full Throttle Hobbies in SC has been really helpful. When a shop takes the time to call you about the details of a $60 order and offer you cost saving suggestions - that's great customer service! Likewise, Horizon Hobby was first class in their handling of a warranty issue. This car seems to have a great dealer support system. And that's whats important to all of us after the sale, right? Finally, just a pat on the back to everyone I've read on this thread so far. There doesn't seem to be the smart alec comments, biased opinions, etc. as on so many others. Good info from people in sharing a good thing - this Mayhem! Keep up the good work . . . Lee

RE: Official Mayhem Thread
Hi Gang! Finally got 4 tanks of break-in running and will start fine tuning this weekend. I know there are lots of variables in engine tuning, but I'd appreciate hearing what final settings some of you have ended up with on your High Speed, Low Speed and Idle needles (how many turns counter-clockwise from fully closed). I've started off with the 6.5 (small) carb insert - I know that makes a difference. Even without it being really dialed in, this thing is fantastic! Even with the rich setting, it is very responsive and I love how the engine howls when it's wound up! I'm looking forward to working with some of the suspension settings ya'll have been talking about lately. Thanks a bunch . . . Lee

RE: Official Mayhem Thread
Correctamento! Now if only I could get it to idle . . . Even though the glow plugs start out good really intensely red hot, they seem to start diminishing almost immediately. Maybe they've just not been able to stay hot enough to ignite the fuel until the engine warms up? Maybe the rechargeable "C" glow starter I have isn't strong enough, long enough. So may questions . . . but, solving the problems is part of the fun - right? Lee

RE: Official Mayhem Thread
Help! Trying to get the car started for the first time - and so far, no luck. Seems to be drowning in fuel. Have set and re-set the low and high speed needles per the specs. Even tried leaning the low speed out up to half a turn, no luck. Initially tried starting with the 6mm insert so the throttle response would be toned down some. When flooding kept recurring, I put the 7.5mm insert back in, with no different results. Each time, after several starting attempts, I'd remove the glow plug, blow out the combustion chamber with compresed air, check the plug (still glows!), and start over. Many times it would catch up, rev up and die. Sometimes I could blip the throttle two or three times but then it would die anyway. At these times, the exhaust would be nice and white - and we want it rich at this time, right? Finally, (I shouldn't have I know), but I started adjusting the idle adjustment screw - but no changes noticed. Anyone know where the idle screw needs to be set - how many turns back out from all the way in clockwise? Thanks . . . Lee

RE: Official Mayhem Thread
Glad I found this thread - you guys seem to have some good, "real world" advice! The Mayhem is my first RC so I have some basic questions here at first: Been going thru and threadlocking screws, seeing how the different components go together, etc. Took the suspensions apart to put boots on the shocks and CVD's and, of course, didn't notice a few things when I was dissembling them! Obviously the retaining plates for the pillow blocks on the front suspension are not suposed to be tightened down all the way. I now have them adjusted so that there is just a little bit of play in each joint and the servo seems to pivot them freely. Any other words of advice on adjusting these? What is the best way to clean the car after use - solvent/cleaner/compressed air/all of the above? Again, thanks for the info on set ups and radio/servo tuning. There's a lot to learn with this - but it sounds like we all made a great decision to buy this buggy! Lee
