RE: Dynaflite Butterfly build
Hi Earl, Yup, wind, rain, and overcast sky's for three days. To cope with that I went out and bought a eflite Blade MCX to fly around the house.[sm=regular_smile.gif] I have a few last things to do on the BF before its ready to fly, but I probably won't get to it until next week..... Mount a switch, install the tank, battery, receiver, glue on the tail skid, and check the C.G. Polish, and a quick picture. I hope to get the maiden flight in on Tuesday the 24th of this month, would be sooner but I have to work. It usually takes me 6 months from box to lift off, and I am on target for that.

ejam, I agree not much on youtube for butterfly. I looked when I ordered my kit -nothing really! I might post some as well. I have never built a Sig kit before and have always heard good things. I know u said your wood was good from Dynaflite with the butterfly, but I was not impressed with mine. Hope Sig is much better![sm=thumbup.gif]

Hello, Summer of 69! [8D] Nope -I am working this week. I will start putting it together this weekend. My new motor mount should be in anytime. Im excited about that. I should be able to move my motor far enough forward that 1. the plane balances w no additional weight and I do not have to use my refuel valve. [:D] Maybe get to Maiden it next week. My son is very excited. EJAM, that will be great for visibility. Let me know when u get your motor mounted! Ok guys don't shoot me but I might build the Sig Riser 100," -I have always wanted to build a Sig kit. Quigleywins (Boss) [;)] I was gonna PM you, did not get a chance till this morning.

Thanks Mike, I can probably change my order if I do it now before it ships. What exactly do the game commander switches allow you to do? I see it has one proportional on top with two flip switches. One of those is not Dual rates? What are the switches used for? Might be a dumb question, but I figure flaps gear and dual rates -is that correct. I have a JR 6102. Thanks again for your help. Matt

Yahooooooooo, just found out about aerofly and tower hobbies today. Finally, Finally, finally..... Ordered mine, cant wait. Also waiting on a new 27" Mac to replace my five year old powerbook G4. I have one question at this point..... I thought I read on here briefly that you can switch between mode 1 and Mode 2 pretty easy. What is this procedure, and how does it come stock out of the box? would it be mode two, by chance [8|] -thanks!

Hey Guys, I have had a great time building along with you all. I would love to build something else.....not sure what though. Not to interested in a Piece O' Cake, to much like the butterfly. I do like the Sig Wanderer -100" version. hmmm, I'll have to think on it for a little while. The current kits I am thinking of are the following... Sig Wanderer -100" Flyingthingz -Race Car, www.flyingthingz.com Ohio model products 80" Edge 540 P - www.ohiomodelplanes.com There all very different but thats what I am currently thinking about. Oh yah, almost forgot something like a telemaster that I could use to tow gliders up. Not sure what would be good for that? Have a good night, Happy Halloween! [X(]

Quigleywins -what a project list you have!!!!! Nice sailplanes! I love silent flight and soaring. Ejam, thanks for your kind words. I believe some where in the neighborhood of 10-12 models. The more we do, the better we get. I have a lot to learn but have really come to enjoy it. I'm burnt out at this moment but will look forward to my next project and be ready when the time comes to cover again. Keep up the good work, I think in the future you will find less and less modelers with this skill, as the AFR's seem to have taken over. I like an ARF as much as the next person but I like the art of building too. Thats one thing I like about the Butterfly is that if you want one.......you have to build it [:)]. Take care fellas, dont stay up too late! [;)]

Thanks EJAM, the windows are fun. I also could not resist the "butterfly" shown below, -Had to do it! [;)] Did your motor come yet? You should have yours on before I get a chance, waiting to hear how you CG actually comes out! I had purchased two motor mounts for this build. The a Dave Brown, which as you know fits the motor with no extra space, hence my refuel problem and fuel valve. The other I bought was the greatplanes .25 to .40. I wish I would have used this one now. Had long mounting bars that I could hav eused to slide the motor forward and then gave me plenty of room to reach the fuel line. I have a phone call in to Dave Brown now to see if he has the same motor mount with longer rails available. Have a good day!

quigleywins, Did you have any problems balancing your model. It looks like you went with standard servos mounted in the recommended place on the plans. I see your battery in the fuel tank compartment. Did it balance like that with the OS .20? Thanks

RE: Dynaflite Butterfly build
Hey Earl, Is your motor all the way forward on your mount, if it is you can always go with a mount that has longer mounting bars and move it more forward. Other than that, with out adding weight your down to moving your radio gear forward as you said. Instead of that plastic spinner on the nose you might be able to REDUCE the amount of weight you have to add by using a DUBRO hub. they come in a couple of different weights and since its way out on the front of your motor, it will reduce the amount of weight you need to add placing it anywhere else. Goodluck! I'm hoping my .25FX is enough to make things come out nice. Based on what I have read on RCU, it looks like the extra motor weight will be benefical. [8D].

Hey Earl, Circles look good. I did something similar on a gentle lady that my daughter and I built together. Use trim solvent or low heat with an iron. DONT hit it with a heat gun -it could bubble and distort. Have a good day...

RE: Dynaflite Butterfly build
ejam, I was thinking about a tail wheel as well. But I read, and I don't remember where (maybe somewhere on RCU) that the butterfly is made to be hand launched and wheel landed. I have read reviews where guys installed a tail wheel and then wished they didn't. If there's any wind I guess ground handling can be a little tricky. After thinking about it -I agree with them and decided to use the skid. I have not put it on yet though. I will after covering. Not sure if I am gonna cover it or just fuel proof it. Sounds like I fuel proofed the same areas you did. I built a Herr Star Cruiser once and did not do the wing saddle. Fuel found its way in around the wing. The blue is a good match to the covering. Covering -I think as long as you have some contrasting colors on the bottom you should be good. Yellow on the tips sounds good. I will post some pics after I get started. I am still working on a design as well.

RE: Dynaflite Butterfly build
You will not have any problems with this build if you already have one kit under your belt. There are a few steps that take some extra patience but nothing difficult. I was not impressed with the quality of wood in my kit. I had knots on my fuse sides and unfortunately due to the warp of both sides I had no choice but to put the knot on the outside. My plans were a little yellowed around the edges. I think I got an older kit. This is one airplane that has been on my build list for a long time. Glad I am finally adding another to the Butterfly population out there!!! MONOKOTE NEXT WEEK -WHOOOOHOO

They help quite a bit, and at really no weight cost. Also only took me 15 minutes. You can see the few I added to the poly panels in the pic from behind. I am traveling next week so mine wont see covering till a week from this Saturday. I am thinking about some transparent colors now after seeing how nice your rudder looked.

Looks good -I like the trans blue!!! Ok, I have some pics now.... Gonna put balsarite on tonight -I'm ready to start covering. I chose to put in the antenna guide tube. I added some sheer webs to the poly panels. I put in a refuel valve due to the location of my cylinder head against my engine mount. I will not be able to get my fingers in there to pull the fuel line off. I used a four oz tank Added 1/4oz of weight to the outer most inboard wing panel W4 wing rib to balance the wing longitudinally before covering.

Polydihedral question?
I just finished building a Dynaflite butterfly and the wingtips are about 1/4" difference in height up from my work surface when each panel is laid side by side, trailing edge to-to trailing edge. The total wingspan is 99." Is this insignificant? Does anyone know if this will be noticeable with the flight characteristics? I have not checked the distance with the wing seated on the aircraft yet. The dihedral could possibly offset this but I was just curious at this point. I might be able to knock some of this down when I cover it. Any input or opinions are appreciated -thanks! -M
