RE: Perfect Brand Fuel Tank Numbers and Dimensions
A Perfect wedge tank mounted with the V down and inclined down to the rear makes a fine sport tank as long as you don't want to fly inverted for any length of time. I've used them in vintage FF models with radio assist that way. I now install them to be removable just because. A 1 oz short wedge tank flies my favorite PAW .09 longer than I can crank my neck back these days.

RE: Is this guy serious?
I see two Wen Mac cylinder heads. The cylinder is from OK and probably the cranks well. Not enough detail visible to ID the pistons and rods. Probably OK. Can's say if the backplate is OK or Wen Mac since the are identical in style but not size. Oddly enough, I could actually use another Wen Mac prop driver and I'd love to have the muffs to experiment with making a DDD style diesel head. I'd say 25¢

RE: Micro telemaster
I've got the Micro Telemaster on the shelf above the workbench. At first I thought it might be a fine kit for a PAW 55BR R/C. The longer it sits there the more I want to use my throttled Pee Wee .020 and keep the plane very, very light. Not much extra strengthening would be needed that way. I've got a tank shell drilled for a fuel line from an external tank so it can be aerobatic. R/E/T and current lightweight airborne gear should make it a hoot. Now if I'd only stop building C/L planes and crashing them with my son... at this rate the Micro Telemaster could become his R/C trainer. [:D]

RE: PeeWee .020 help
I always thought the Jr. Falcon and the Jr. Skylark kits built up into rather heavy planes. My best Jr. Falcon was sluggish with an RC Golden Bee and the 3 ch. Cannon equipment I could barely afford to buy in grad school. I can only imagine that a twin Jr. Skylark with Pee Wees is just too heavy for the spritely performance everybody wants. A pair of Tee Dee .020s with the firewall mount and small clunk tanks or bladders in the planked section of the wing might do the trick though. Or how about rebuilding the nacelles to take a pair of contra-rotating Sure Starts? That ought to power it up enough to make anybody happy.

Eric Clutton has nice plans for 1/2A WW2 planes. The Messerschmidt I built for a colleague flew sweetly with my PAW 55BR and was a fast fun handful with the throttled Medallion he picked up on the auction site. Rudder, aileron, and throttle. Too bad its a hangar queen in his office these days since his interested waned during a long summer with my old Whizard. Maybe I should suggest we try again...

RE: testors McCOY .049 RED HEAD
Some engine collectors with a passion for packaging might over pay for that, but I doubt the profit of flogging it at an auction site would be worth the time and trouble. I think you'd find much more enjoyment in taking it out, breaking it in, and flying it in period single channel plane. Afterall, that's what the hobby is really about isn't it? I'd think that your McCoy would run as well as any early Baby Bee and certainly be stronger than my Wen Mac Mk II. Enjoy it.

Back to the topic of ancient RTF twins, any one? I vaguely remember a RTF B-25 Mitchell with Fox .07 engines, but have no idea who manufactured it. I do remember seeing a number of 1/2A control line twins fly in the late 60s, but they were profile jobs done from MAN plans and the like. P38s and Mosquitoes come to mind. I never tried to build one. I suppose building and wrecking single-engine planes was expensive enough with my budget.

RE: Pee Wee .020 cranks?
Interesting diagram. Could you tell us when and where it was published? It reminds me of the diesel head I made out of an RC Charlie's .049 head ages ago with just a Dremel drill press and a few flat files. Not too successful, but at least it fired and burped. Now I've got my sweet little Wen Mac Mk II in front of me and with the diesel muff-like cylinder head off wondering how much work it would take to make a diesel conversion out of another head if I could round a second one up. Just putting an old experimental brass diesel disk in raises the compression noticeably... hmmm. Next sunny day I should do some flipping with fixed compression just to mess around.

RE: Pee Wee .020 cranks?
I knew there just had to be something I forgot to mention. You might want to try adding a couple of head gaskets just to see how a larger prop will run. I wound up running with two gaskets for the teflon discs and three or four when I experimented with discs cut and carefully sanded from beer can aluminum and K&S brass sheet. There are two gaskets and a hand cut teflon disc in the Pee Wee pic I uploaded. The best alu disc I ever messed with was cut from the bottom of a can. It took its own combustion chamber shape when flipped over with a prime and the screw out all the way. It did not deform easily when the compression screw was turned down, so I added gaskets to decrease compression and then took them out to tune the running. Thinner alu from the sides of a can would adjust with the screw as did the brass sheet. BTW, the translucent white cap from a new glow head makes a great place to store your discs as well as checking the roundness of your work. I also put my DDD head in one for storage.

RE: Pee Wee .020 cranks?
The Pee Wee crank is actually pretty robust for a small glow. I've flown them with as large as a 6x2 or 6x3 wooden prop on motorglider-like planes and 1/4A sized Old Timer FF (radio assisted) off and on for years. I've also broken a few cranks messing around with the DDD .020 head back in late 80s/early 90s. The crank pin takes about 1/3 of the shear web with it. I don't recall breaking a con rod. All I can suggest is running a larger prop to keep the revs down and not increasing compression beyond just what is necessary to get the engine started. Matter of fact, back it off after starting to the minimum where the engine keeps running. Avoid protracted bench running. Just learn the starting drill and then go flying. Of the current Cox props still available try the black 5x4 or the 5x3 or even a grey 6x3 with the Tee Dee spinner and screw. Using the Cox grey 4.5 will just encourage tuning for glow like revs and help you break a crank pronto. Here's one of my Pee Wee's sporting the DDD head. It's just a curio to me now and might be available to a good home. The DDD head, not the Pee Wee!

RE: Pee Wee .020 muffler
I bought an .020 annular muffler with exhaust stub as an accessory for flying on campus a bit more discretely. It didn't seem to muffle all that well when running the 4.5d/2p Cox grey, but with larger diameter props cut down from 6x3 wooden Top Flites it worked better. I suppose the larger prop with more pitch was also reducing the tearing sound of the prop tips zipping around at high rpm. I was never hunting for ultimate performance so this was fine by me.

RE: I need to make this Testors 049 live on, Help!
I would suspect that the cylinder/piston/and glow head would screw right into a late 70s Testors McCoy front rotary valve crankcase and save you the mounting problem. Might also actually be a drop in for any Wen Mac Mk II and later as well. Without the rotomatic starter that would make a very light .049 with the performance of well used Baby Bee or Pee Wee. RE: Completed
No. I'm down to two of the cheap black ones. But you can always try what I did in the early 80s when all my .020 wrenches disappeared from the basement at home when I was in graduate school. Find a cheap $10 steel micrometer at the local hardware store and file/grind the surfaces at the tip to what is needed to fit and then loosen the glow plug head. Actually, make two. The rest of the surface behind the tips on the othe one will serve to hold the cylinder tight during glow plug removal. It will also take the cylinder off the crankcase when appiled across the exhaust ports. "See" what I mean? good luck and thanks for all the fish ;)

RE: .049 sailplane set up
One of the best planes I've ever had for relaxed flying was a Gentle Lady with an RC PAW .049 Classic. Once at altitude I could just throttle the little diesel back and putter around in the blue. The power pod was just scaled up from some tractor .020 pod on something I had a magazine size plan page for, maybe a Guppy. With a 1 oz CL wedge tank in the pod the PAW ran longer than my neck liked looking way up and certainly longer than my attention span. I spent a lot of time playing with the the flap reflex set up coming in hot and fast at idle and "cruise" 10º up flaps and bouncing back to altitude with a brief application of full down flaps and adding lots of throttle while zeroing the flaps for climb out.
ORIGINAL: gene6029 Thanks for that info, im going to get one Monday. Im looking foreward to building the Gentle Lady with him & i wanted to put one of my many .049s to use. He decided to try his hand at sparkies and the Maloney 125 was the result. BTW, I think the 125 means 1.25 ci. That was ideal for the large size RC planes flown ar the time. George
I remember World Engines from my childhood. I'm not sure how the deal was set up, but World Engines either ran or supplied the hobby counter at a small local Cincinnati department store chain called Swallen's. The great thing about going to Swallen's was the counter had more kits in stock than any hobby shop I could bicycle to back then. Any time my dad wanted to go to Swallen's automotive counter I'd tag along just to snag a rubber FF kit and dream about the RC gear, planes, and the wide variety of non Cox engines on display.
