Determining EP Motor size
Hello i'm just wanting information on were to find out Electric Motor size. For instance id like to know what size brushless motor to purchase that would have the same power as a .46 nito engine Or the size of electric motor that would be the power equivelent to a .61 nitro enigne. If there is a site you know of or thread dedicated to this subject, please point me in the right direction, thank you

Okay i have a Yak 54 2c 46~50 4c 52~63 ENGINE POWERED AEROBATIC AIRCRAFT http://www.nitroplanes.com/yak542c464c5.html And i need some parts for it i need a wing tube & a conopy and a cowling after searching high & low on the nitroplanes web site i cant find none of it how do i go about getting the parts i need for this plane? or is it one of them ya toss it and get a different plane.. Any help would be appriciated i dont want to wait three months for parts so if they cant be purchased then i'll just huck it in the trash..

RE: Phoenix 2000 EPO Composite R/C glider by Hobby King
So yesterdays Flight was a good one, Caught some thermals & did some crazy aerobatics, & enjoyed flying the plane. Managed to fly for about an Hour, But i feel i had some help from above since it was a memorial flight i did for My Girl friend that passed away, she was helping me out. So i feel i got my moneys worth, even if it did need a little TLC in the begining. I would recomend that the ARF version would be the way to go cheaper & would be a better gamble & that is the Key to buying chinese products. its a gamble if you dont have a gambling nature then find a company your comfortable getting a sailplane from. Just saying

RE: Phoenix 2000 EPO Composite R/C glider by Hobby King
Well i have sent several emails requesting a new motor & ESC & havent gotten any response back. This is the first RC plane i have ever purchased from this company i have bought batteries and little do dad things with no problems. But will never buy anther plane from them that is a PNP plane maybe an arf would be a safe bet but even that id be second guessing & is now iffy. I sent the burnt out parts back to them and figure well they will most likely just toss them in the trash & forget about me that what i expect from Chinese companies they sure arent your frind & they defiently dont care whether your happy or not IMOP. But I was figuring that if you by anything from hobby king or any foreighn Company across the ocean your taking a gamble & pretty much get what ya get. I will most likely stick to Tower Hobbies and companies here in the US since i know there quality is good they ship fast & stand behind there products. I fixed the gliding issue with this plane the wing just needed some more reinforcment it was buffeting in the wind like a wing flapping. then moved the battery back & this moved the CG back a 1/4 of an inch and now it glides nice and smooth. People have to remember one thing about buying something like this. its like going to the dollar store & expecting to get quality its not gonna happen. But if you can make it work then its worth it. Im just happy the actual plane arrived in one piece. Think that was my biggest concern. So if your willing to take the risk & Gamble a little then you may get lucky & end up with a fairly Decent little glider For a few bucks.

RE: Phoenix 2000 EPO Composite R/C glider by Hobby King
Well the packaging was Decent & the plane arrived with no damage Cosmetically, Took about 3 weeks to get it from china not to bad pacel post. The assembly was pretty easy didnt take to long to assemble. The instructions are very poor, best to have some Experince with building models, Decals were fairly easy to install not bad. The clevises are very poor, i purchased mini Dubro Clevis from a local hobby shop to replace just one on the rudder, the rest i was able to use silocone fuel line on to keep them closed they dont lock like you higher quality Clevises. The mini dubro fit the control rod but will slide if not CA'ed (super glued in position So good to make sure your servos are centered and make your adjustments then CA the clevis on the control rod. Im sure ther are better methods, but this was a quick fix. One servo the elevator servo was stripped, swaped it out with a hightec HS 65 mg witch fit just fine in place of the damaged one the plane was shipped with. HAve two 25C 2200MAh 3 cell batteries witch i use in the plane no problem with CG. CG was spot on, & flight time is about 30 minutes with one, considering i just use the power to get the plane to altititude & then cut power and drift around till i need power to get it back up to were i want it. Upon connecting the ESC to the battery for the first time to test my AR6000 Spektrum Receiver & give throttle to Test, The ESC When POOF!!!! Up in a cloud of Smoke and the motor spit out a little smoke as well. So i was thinking, OH NO!!!! Im going to have to get a new motor & ESC. Luckily i had an ALIGHN 35 amp ESC from an old Trex 450 XL i use to have. So replaced the ESC & the motor Spins up nicely had to program it for aircraft mode not to good an idea having heli mode & soft start on a plane. But after programing the brake and aircraft mode it works great. So friend and i took the plane out for its maiden flight yesterday & all went well, Flies very nicely, does not glide as well as i had hoped, sink rate it pretty extreme but have to remember im using a 25C 2200MAH 3 cell battery witch is pretty heavy. Considering the plane balances out perfectly with this battery the suggested battery would have to be moved foward a considerable amount to get the CG correct. & possably even weight added to the plane. So this morning i took it out and gave it another whirl, and used the motor more and did some loops and rolls plane doesn't roll to well, better make sure you have some altitude when you do it, But its a glider and not desighned for aerobatics too, but it is possable. All in all i'm satisfied with the plane haven't flownit on a non windy day both days the wind has been about 10 to 15 mph. But makes it super easy to land with a good head wind. On a calm day im thinking it may come in pretty hot, Since were having thunderstorms in the area there isnt any thermals to speak of will have to take it out after the storms are done on a good hot day and see how it rides the colums of hot air pretty sure i'll be able to get allot more flight time. So for being a relatively cheap Glider im impressed, total was 116 shipped and i spent about 3 on clevises, THe ESC would have cost more but i was lucky i had one laying around as well as some back up servos. The field we fly in friend is flying his SKYFLY Gotta land in the weeds. Would be nice to place captions on the pics

The parkzone spitfire lives on, Been getting lots of flight with my old parkzone spitfire. Still running a Brushless motor from a trex450 in it with the robinson metal gear had to buy a new shaft with the nylon gear and a stock prop & nose cone running aaligh 35 amp esc. running a 11.1 volt 25C 2500mha lipo get about 15 minutes of flight time, if im real careful i can fly it for 20 minutes. Gotta be careful gettting harder to find parts for this bird.

RE: Hitec Optic 6 / BH Stuka / flap setup
Thanks for the pictures I used two Y harnesses to connect the servos two the Receiver & setup the Crow function without the use of the ailerons as spoilers. Seems to work Fine but wont really know till i fly the plane But at least now i have control of the flaps & elevator at the same time on the left slider. Hopefully this will make it so it will be able to take off and land in shorter distances.

Sure would like to know how you did that Giant Big Stick Setup i'm using the otic 6 radio with it & want to set up the flaps but i'm at a bit of a loss at the moment
ORIGINAL: WildeOne Fred, I can handle the two wings by having the servo output arms all to the outside or all to the inside ... done it before with a Giant Big Stik with flaps, but that one only needed two servos and I had enough radio channels to handle it. RE: Dave Patrick Edge 540 Project..
Well i have tried my luck with gas engines and there unrealiable as far as im concerned. I have a 45CC gas Extra 330L and its flown maybe 5 times since 2005. The rest the time im trying to get the engine to run right. But i dont have the experience with gas that some do and see others flying gas weedeater engines on there planes without problems, So it just must be me. But i like the fact that when i put fuel in a nitro plane and put the glow igniter on the engine and crack that enigne over it fires immediatly and keeps running. Dont need an ignition battery and all that extra weight. So the bigger Engines on these planes is Defeating the purpose of power to weight ratio i think with my experiences with them. I had a 26CC Gasser on my Twist 150 and it flew like crap like a bomber slow and underpowered. I put a GMS 120 on it and the plane came to life then crashed into the side of a mountain RIP TwisT 150. So i bought a Giant Big Stick and put the 26CC gas engine on it and yes once again i had a Bomber. Put an OS 160 on it and it came to life and no more fighting the SPE 26 CC engine So glad i sold that engine. So in light of my inexperince with gas Engines I have sworn off them. Its Nitro all the way. So now i have what i bealive to be the biggest nitro engine they make 35 CC. of course i maybe wrong. But at least i know that when i mount this enging to the DP Edge 540 im not going to have to worry about dead sticks and my ignition battery dieing or some other Gas engine problem. Nope take it out fire it up and fly. Probably will burn a gallon of fuel in four flights but at least i'll get to fly. Its very disapointing when you take your plane out to the field after tuning at home and then it decides not to run. In witch case this is exatly what happened with the Extra 330L with the Crrcpro 45CC Gas engine on it ran great at home take it to the field and spent 30 minutes trying to get it to run. It now sits under my workbench and is waiting for it new owner to take it over.

RE: Dave Patrick Edge 540 Project..
Well im slowly getting things together for this plane i now have a O.S. BGX-1 3500 This BGX-1 is the engine of choice for those Giant Scale Modelers. The BGX-1 35cc Engine was designed as a lighter, more powerful, less vibration, and more compact alternative to the converted chainsaw gasoline engines. One drawback; fuel economy is better with the chainsaw engines, and fuel is less expensive. The BGX-1 includes an engine mount that mounts to the firewall in the same bolt pattern as the backplate-style engine mounts that come with SuperTigre's models S2000, S2500, and S3000(K) engines. You can directly replace any of those engines with the BGX-1 without redrilling your firewall. As stated from the tower hobbies site on the engine. I of course was warned that this engine is overkill on this plane and that the OS 160 would be plety of engine for it. But i figured what the heck lets put some real power behind it just in case i need to get out of a sticky situation when i hit the trottle i want this thing to rocket upward. So now after im free and clear on the power plant. i will be Saving for the alimighty servos that i will be using in the plane and of course i still need to Get the other components as well linkages and control horns ect. But just an update on my progress. :-)

RE: Dave Patrick Edge 540 Project..
ORIGINAL: Striker Just last night I was online looking for Dave Patricks website and realized he is no longer in business, that's too bad because he designed and made some really great airplanes including this edge. Dave Patrick is Canadian born and used to fly at our club when he was a teen, in fact the guy who taught him to fly still flies with us and a friend of mine. Dave went on to win the Pattern Championships more than once I think and had bought over Carl Goldberg Products. I think what killed his business is when the era of 3D flying came into being and the market was flooded with 3D airplanes, none of which he was manufacturing at the time. The Edge would have been a half decent 3D airplane but with introduction of the Extreme Flight first generation YAK 54, they stole the 3D market along with Great Planes Patty Wagstaff Extra 300L
So as striker said Earlier in the thread He went out of bussiness and so this plane is just like all the other Dicontinued planes out there You just have to do the best you can with what you have and be inovative in setting it up. Im still gathering Parts for mine have to get control horns and still need to repair the firewall and get servos Ect But its all about money a little here and a little there and eventually i'llhave all the screws and bolts and peices i need to assemble it. But i watch this thread just in case someone out there may have a manual or Some pictures they post of there setup of this plane. Some photos of peoples setup on this plane would do alot to help others whom have this plane. When i do finally get all my gear for it. and set it up i'll post pictures of my setup so others can use them as a refrence. Best of luck with your repairs.

RE: Dave Patrick Edge 540 Project..
Id like to have a copy of that manual too.. As far as monokote colors they used id just get some top flight monokote that matches what you have already on the plane. Or Some colors that you like if the plane doesn't have any on it. Like i did with this plane i got i just covered it the way i like and matched the one wing up to the other one.

tdang2k Post alink to this new manufacture maybe they will be produciong the Edge again and people can get some parts for these things. Mine is in like new condition and im slowly getting the parts i need to make it airworthy. Since i most likely wont be doing any crazy 3D prop hanging with mine im going to install my OS 160 on it. It had a gas enigne of some sort on it. i may get a 50 CC in time for it but im just gonna use what i got for now. Finally got a incedence bar for the rear Elevator its a Brass bar and fit perfect from tower hobbies.

Thanks 3DSky for your input on the plane. Im glad there is a large variety of engines For this plane So since i have an OS 160 i'll give that one a shot. Dont plan to do to much 3d i have other planes for that. Nope just want to fly it.. The OS 160 will hover my giant big stick for a moment and it is a lot larger plane. And this plane is alot lighter then the Giant big Stick.. 1/4 inch lamined hard ply sheet sounds like a lot easier fix for the firewall then having to rebuild the 1/2 inch firewall that is there So i will give that a try..

I was thinking the same thing Not to sure a 160 would be enough power the plane looks bigger then my 28% Leage extra 330L and its got a 45cc engine on it. Im thinking it needs a 50cc at minumum. But im going to ask the previous owner what was on the plane before he seems reluctant to give me to much info for some reason, but i'll find out..

RE: Dave Patrick Edge 540 Project..
Steve thanks for the link looks like a good site going to need some hardware special screws and stuff great appriciate it. Been trying to find a manual or some sort of instructions on the net for this aircraft. but i think im out of luck on that one. This plane was given to me and the firewall has to be replaced had some sort of gas engine on it i plan on putting an OS 160 on it or somethingn of that caliber. Have a SPE 26cc gas engine but i dont think it would be enough power for this plane. Im sure a 50cc would be a great engine for it, but im trying not to dump to much into it. Still have to get some good servos for it and thats gonna be expensive. Mainly just looking at hardware first then electronics and power second. Striker Appriciate that there is some input on this model. i kinda figured it would be like the Leage extra 330L i have, not popular apperently. But since it was a gift I have to realize there is a reason why it was given to me. lol The friend i fly with told me to keep it light. So im going to try to. He apperently he had it flying once upon a time. But then gutted it to use the parts in some other model and so it sat in his shed and eventually everything that pertained to the model got misplaced. Think the biggest obstical will be rebuilding the firewall has a big hole in it, since the engine that was on it had the carb that comes out the rear of the enigne im thinking.. So i'll post some pictures of that on here as i get to that part of the restoration of the plane.. Keep up update on my progress.

Dave Patrick Edge 540 Project..
New project finding an alluminum rod that will fit that dam little hole on the elevator of the Dave Patricks Edge 540 120. Funny thing is i found a screw driver that fits the hole perfect, but its not long enough or id cut it and use it. But it was good for taking a measurement with the micrometer. SO Im wondering if anyone knows were i can find some alluminum rods on the internet. I looked at tower hobbies and there eighter to big or to small. I can see this is going to be a project just looking for an aluminum rod. Need an aluminum rod that is .1575" in diameter that is the size of the screwdriver shaft that fits the hole tight witch would be perfect if i could find a rod that size but i dought that is going to happen.. closest to this size would be 5/32" = .15625" figure if i can find an aluminum rod that is 5/32" and about 12 inches long i will be in bussiness. So if anyone knows of a place that sells this size of alluminum rod Send me the link figured its worth a shot here why not. Its a shame that the manufacture of this model doesnt exist anymore. So strange but understandable i guess some companies just dont make it. Hope to get this one flying and have some fun with it. But i can see if it ever crashes that will be it. Oh and yes the plane looks like it is together but its not used packing tape and just made it look good for the pictures still needs a ton of Hardware nuts and bolts ect. gonna be awhile before this one lifts off into the sky again. so i figured i would start with finding the hard stuff first.

Helimax Novus CP Upgrades Thread
Hello all you Helimax Novus CP Owners out there in RCUniverse. Im intrested in upgrading the little Novus CP heli i have with a CNC head and Full brushless motors Been looking at this site called wowhobbies that sells the stuff for upgrading it. But i would like to see some Novus CP helicopters that have already been upgraded. Reason is i see there are two ESC's one for the tail and one for the main motor and the upgrade kits vary some. So if you have upgraded your Novus CP post some pictures of your setup i would really like to get a idea of how all the esc's and wires are going to fit on this little Helicopter..So i can get the right kit or kits to upgrade with. Ive noticed since putting Carbon fiber blades on the stock Heli that the flight time is less. I'm certain this is because the blades weigh a little more then the foam stock ones. The parts im looking at are on this site. [link=http://www.wowhobbies.com/walkera-4g3-parts.aspx]wowhobbies[/link] Heres me flying mine in my garage maybe my flight time is normal but im thinking with upgrades it could be better.
