RE: LETS SAVE SIG BEFORE THEY GET SWALLOWED BY THE BIG TWO!!!
Note that Sig has again begun advertising their newly labeled Rascal 72 ARF and the Kadet Senior ARF, among others, in several of the national print magazines. Hopefully that's an indication that they have returned to the ARF arena. Their web site has the new pricing. Kit availability is good and their service is top-notch. If you are looking to make in-roads into the hobby by doing more than flying ARFs, Sig's kits are the place to start. Attached are a couple of shots of two of my Sig projects: one a HogBipe and the other a Mid-Star. Like all Sig kits, they are both excellent flyers.

It's hard to hit a moving target. I covered WOT for Flying Models and the article will be in the October issue. Just for the heck of it, I'm going to try to attach the missing Skyraider shot to this reply. I have no idea why the other two failed when a completed up-load was confirmed.

Here's the shot of the two planes intersecting. The video shows the P-47 coming up under the Spitfire and knifing through the wing with its rudder, although in this photo it's difficult to determine what the sequence of contact was. Note the pieces dropping before the planes went in.

RE: Best Kit for First Build
The Venture 60 is and will be out of stock for a period of time yet. I did a construction review of the kit for Flying Models magazine well over a year ago. Bruce sold out of the stock of kits he had and asked that the review not be published until he can get another run of kits available. He is very busy doing larger research vehicles for universities and other entities, so I doubt the kit will be available again in the foreseeable future. Keep in mind that he is a one-man shop and has chosen to make his living with model airplanes. In a circumstance like that, I would be willing to cut him as much slack as possible so he can keep food on the table. As modelers, we still have the benefit of his design skills evidenced in the Four Star series, the Mid-Star, and the other current designs found on his BTE site. The Venture 60 is such a wonderful, labor-intensive kit, that it gets done in periodically by its success! Larry Kruse

RE: Best I Could Do Painting Figures...
Looks good. To eliminate the staring look of model figures, you can paint the whites of the eyes with a very light grey and make the iris/pupil half-round with the flat side at the top of the iris. Take a look at anyone's eyes. Because of the upper lid, we only see a bit over half of the iris, unless the person is wide-eyed for some reason.

I think the information you have may be old and may be referencing another bill that Sen. Inhofe helped sponsor some time ago. Since the NPRM for the new regs hasn't come out yet in the Federal Register and there has been no 90 day comment period, you information does not appear to be in regard to the new FAA regs that are currently being promulgated.

RE: Complain about anything place
You'll need to explain to me why, with all of the bitching and complaining going on in practically every forum, there is a need for a thread predicated entirely on bitching and complaining. Negativity feeds negativity until it simply spirals out of control and inflicts a tremendous amount of colateral damage. What is it you are hoping to achieve here?

RE: Engine Choice, for small Twin? 25's?
I have a Hobbico "Twin Star" that I bought just because I'd never flown a twin. Since I wanted to keep my investment minimal, I chose a pair of new OS .25 LAs and broke them in carefully before putting them on the plane. They allowed the plane to balance perfectly with no additional weight, and are more than ample power for any sport manuever. I tach them at a matching 12,200 on 9/4 props before each flight and have had no problem with engine flame-outs. The built-in thrust angles should keep the plane flying if one does decide to quit. The plane is rock-solid in every respect and lands exceptionally easy. It has been an unexpected delight, and there's nothing quite like those twins singing in unison during a pass down the field.

RE: Watcha Buildin'?
Just finished a Sig "Riser 100" and have started my club building contest ship, a Balsa USA 1/6th scale "Sopwith Pup". It's already a fun build, and I've got everything coming to get it finished right. In gathering things up, I ordered an insignia set from Callie Graphics in New Mexico. The product is top shelf and the service was outstanding. I ordered the insignia set on Monday via phone and had it by Thursday. Their web site is a worthwhile visit just to look around and be inspired by other people's work.

Actually, the Mid-America Air Museum is in Liberal, Kansas where I happened to be located and was a member of the Liberal Airport Authority at that time. We subsequently were brought to Oklahoma by a job opportunity in the early 90s and have been in Lawton for the last seven years. R/C Ken is the president of our local club here in Lawton, the Lawton Area Fun Flyers Society.

RE: Every plane has to crash someday? Can it last for years
I'm still flying a Tex Newman "Dragonfly" that I built from Model Builder plans in 1974, and I just recently sold a pristine-looking Sig "Seniorita" that I built and started flying in 1986. The caveat is that while there may not be an expiration date hidden in every plane, each one is subject to immediate recall due to faulty maintenance and pilot error.

RE: Mid America Air Museum
As one of the founding members of the Mid-America Air Museum back in the 1980s, it gives me great pleasure to see someone enjoying the planes. The museum started as an idea that came from three things happening almost simultaneously. The first was the closing of the Beech Aircraft assembly plant with an 88,000 sq. ft. building returning to the city's control; the second was the first B-24 reunion for those who trained there during WWII; and the third was a need by Col. Tom Thomas for a place to hangar his rather extensive collection of flyable aircraft. After visiting some of the museums in Arizona and California to get a feel for operations, the City of Liberal opted to establish the Mid-America Air Museum, housing Col. Thomas's planes as well as several retired aircraft on loan from the Marines, the Navy, and the Air Force. We were fortunate to hire a curator at that time who knew the museum business and had excellent contacts through SAC in gaining both cooperation and aircraft for the start-up. As the photos show, the museum does have a rather eclectic collection of planes and memorabilia and is a worthwhile stop for any aviation enthusiasts traveling through the central part of the United States.
