RE: Seagull Gee Bee Z
Made it to Joe Nall and back! I had a great time and got some good flights in on the Gee Bee. Had lots of people asking about it. Didn't manage to get any pics though. Maybe I will find some that someone else took. I didn't see another one there though.

RE: NEW Top Flight P-40??? 1/5 scale
ORIGINAL: jblloyd You have two choices, restrict the inflow by baffling the intake or use the diaphragm snorkel into the fuselage...they both will work. Has anyone tried a velocity stack to help with the air flow?  <a href=''http://www.troybuiltmodels.com/items/TBMVS-S.html''>http://www.troybuiltmodels.com/items/TBMVS-S.html
It's not an airflow problem, it's a pressure inside the cowling problem. That might help if the carb was outside the cowling, like with a G62 or similar side carb engine.
ORIGINAL: warhawk demon Hey lomcevac. i think im having the same issue you were with the air pressure. i just cant get the popping out of it. mine hasent died yet but it sounds just like yours did on your video
I posted some pics earlier of how I closed the intake down and baffled the air to the engine, then I added some more exit holes in the bottom of the cowling. Mine runs great now and id staying way cooler. Last time I temped it, the engine was around 195 degrees after a flight.

Hasn't happened yet, but I could see it being a problem once it ever starts to wear.

RE: NEW Top Flight P-40??? 1/5 scale
The flaps don't affect my elevation at all. I have no mix in mine at all. Some planes may act differently, so I would try it without any mix, then add some if you need it.

RE: NEW Top Flight P-40??? 1/5 scale
I had to close in the air intake and add some vents to the bottom of the cowl. I can get some pic tonight and post them. My engine wouldn't run right until I done this. The cowl was building too much pressure inside it and would stop the diaphram pump in the carb to stop working. Runs great now! I'll get pics on here tonight.

RE: NEW Top Flight P-40??? 1/5 scale
OK... so I have five flights on mine and two were dead sticks, two were very rich engine settings, and one was when the retracts didn't go up. I don't have a real good record so far. But anyway, my question in about the DA 60. I went from being so lean that the engine heated up and quit, to being so rich it won't clean out on the top end by turning the HSN 1/4 turn out. I have never had a DA so touchy! Planning to try it again this weekend, but just wondering if anyone else is having this issue?

He also did his wheel wells and carved out for his landing gear, I probably wont do that. I have to tell you it really stiffend up the belly pan with little weight. I can now pick the whole plane up with one hand on the BELLY and prop and no worries of denting in the pan. I drilled three holes in the pan (two in front and one in rear) for the foam to expand out. IT DOES GET MESSY, but worth it. To get the dried (8 hours later) foam off I used a sharp chisel.
I would like to know a little more about this process. Is there a link?

RE: NEW Top Flight P-40??? 1/5 scale
ORIGINAL: 92ARed1 Lomcevak, I had my gear stay down on the maiden flight last year.  I was surprised they would not retract, I had done extensive leak testing. On removing the wing, I found I  had a quick disconnect apart.  My theory is that the retract servo knocked it apart. I rerouted the couplings to the other side and have not had it happen since.
That is what happened on mine, and I have done the same thing. Hope that was the problem. Thanks!

RE: NEW Top Flight P-40??? 1/5 scale
ORIGINAL: warhawk demon Hey Lomcevac how did she do on the dead stick?  What kind of RPM's are you getting out of your set up?
Went pretty well, I was pretty high when it quit and I had enough time to turn it around and make a half lap to final. Dropped gear at the last minute when I was sure I was going to make the field. I just kept the nose down and my speed up. I'm not sure yet what mine weighs but I need to check it. My tach battery was dead, so I don't know what it tachs yet. I am running the DA 60 and a 22/12/3 prop. I will try to get a new battery and let you know next time I fly it.

RE: NEW Top Flight P-40??? 1/5 scale
ORIGINAL: n8622t definitely a full day...did the engine get too warm?
Yes, I had leaned it out a bit too much. Landed pretty well, adjusted the needles and flew the second flight. Gear stayed down when I hit the switch. Brought it in and tore it down to find out that one of the quick disconnects to the wing had came loose, dumping all my air pressure when I tried to put the gear up. Luckily I had put the switch back in the down position and landed, so the gear stayed locked down for the landing. Still don't know what caused it, but I just decided to take a break and try it again another day. Maybe I just didn't get the fitting locked in good enough, nothing looked to be wrong with it and it locked back together when I plugged it back in ?????
ORIGINAL: dasintex Any suggestions for a Scale looking 3 Bladed Red Spinner to replace the 2 Bladed Spinner that came with this Plane?
I ordered mine from Dave Brown, and had them cut it for my 22/12/3 prop. Not as pricey as I would have thought. I then had a friend of mine paint it. He said he used some etching primer to help the paint stick.
ORIGINAL: Lifer lomcevak, Very nice! Thanks for sharing. Where did you balance it for the maiden?
Thanks! It is balanced at 5 1/4". I can't move it back any further without adding weight, so I plan to fly it like this for a while. Seems to fly fine! Flaps really surprised me... no trim changes at all when flaps at deployed. I was expecting a balloon or something, but it just settled right in. I set them up at the recomended throws. I hope to get some more flights on it this weekend.
ORIGINAL: groovy67 Warhawk,as far as the pilot i used fishing line to hold him in...lol.He wiggles around a little but no big deal.I wish he had long pants because his knees look like he has prosthetic legs. As far as the bouncing on landing,I come in with full flaps and a little power and pray for a greased landing, hoding the flare and trying to let the wheels just skim down on the runway.Always a nail biter,Not sure what causes it to bounce so much but I think the short length from the wing to tail has a lot to do with it.I've seen Gee Bees that do the same same with the short stubby fusalages. Once down it seems to be another issue keeping it tracking straight...but thats another story. My wingtips will be razor sharp soon...lol. Hopefully someone will will have a soution to this that they can share. John
If the plane is tail heavy it can cause that too. Probably not the cause of yours, but it can make it worse. The tail will stop flying sooner and tend to fall when the mains touch down, which will increase the wing's angle of atack making the plane try to take back off.
