RE: Futaba GY 351 Gyro - Where to get one??
They are out of production. One seems to be on sale on the big auction site. Also try ACT in Germany at www.acteshop.de they sell a gyro that I believe can do the same functions as the 351.

RE: Turbine or EDF
Bob I wouldn't call the hyperion packs low cost. They are not much less than the TP packs. The jet that was lost at the Ejets I believe was using A123 cells and one of the cells went dead open. I don't have anything pulling as many amps as the BVM set ups but my Zippy 25C 2200 packs work every bit as well as my 2250 30C TP Pro powers in my heli, but the Pro Powers come down at ambient and the zippy packs are rather warm. Most likely they won't have a very long life. The main problem with any of the cheaper cells or any other mfg IMO is that you will have to custom wire the packs in the proper configuration to get them to fit. Even the cheap hobby city packs should hold up ok to 150 amps if you parallel 3000mah 30C cells. Remember the BVM packs are 12S2P made of 3250mah cells. They should get you to 180 amps easy. 24 Turnigy 3000mah 30C cells at ~$10 a cell and 86 grams per gets you a pack for $240 and weighs ~4.5 lbs. Will they work, of course. Are they going to give you all the performance of the TP cells, maybe close. Last as long, maybe not. Drop in ready, NO. Get you 4 flights with out recharging for the price of one, YES. Of course if you can solder the packs right............... By the way when did the F-86 come back into play. Stop coveting my NIB F-86 and just get the F-80 [:P]

Its listed at 1020.99 on ductedfans.com now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Does that come with motor, esc, battery and a 9303? $289 at Esprit is reasonable for a full comp plane.

RE: Going to YS, I'm done with Saito
Good luck with the YS. You will most likely give up on that in 4 weeks not 6. You haven't gotten the Saito broken in yet. Try the OS F and the correct prop (try a 15x6) on your Saito. It will never idle very low with the small prop and you could damage it by over reving the engine. Check the valve lash and make sure there isn't anything in the carb needle. Also save the 20/20 fuel for the YS you will need it. Just use 15%nitro and 18%oil. Also the tank should be even with the carb. People giving you advise to leave the glow driver on or to taxi with a weight aren't being helpful. If you do get a YS the 63 will fly the Corsair fine. If you have any trouble with the YS check for air leaks. If any of the gaskets leak the engine won't run worth a d***. It is also very easy to chase the settings on a YS way out of wack. There are three adjustment on the YS rather than two. So have fun................

RE: Spektrum vs. NES-791 retract servo
The servo is only intended to work on 4.8V for some reason. The P-47 and P-51 Hangar 9 ARF threads are full of complaints that the servo doesn't work on 6V

RE: 2.4Ghz - Is it really ready for Hobby use ?
One thing that the 2.4 equipment is not immune to is static feedback. My T-rex 250 had a violent tail twitch and a rythmic pulse in the pitch control. All caused by static buildup in the boom. It would build up and discharge back through the gyro or the tail servo after building up for about 30 seconds. Not exactly the same environment as a jet but still possible. So some of these crashes and lockouts and unexplained issues may be static related. Lots of static build up with fast moving fuel through the lines. Maybe even just the air moving through the fuse, but shouldn't be a problem in humid areas.

RE: Saito 90TS twin or 100 twin
I had a Saito 45MKII. Slowest idling engine I ever saw. It didn't have much power but it ran great. I have 2 45 Specials. Much more power with a big bore carb and a high lift cam. They run great too. The 56 is a much better engine though. I also have a 90T (not TS) that I haven't run. It is a single throw crank. Bet it runs great but doesn't have much power.

RE: at-6
In the 70" range for a kit you will just have to look for a Top Flite kit on RCU or the big auction site. Midwest made a nice AT-6 kit that was about 80" but it is also discontinued. Ziroli also has a set of nice plans for the AT-6 but it is 101" span. Might also be able to find a set of Royal AT-6 plans that were about 72". Don't know if you can get a cowl and canopy for these plans. BTW the TF AT-6 kit flys nice. I've had mine for about 4 years.

RE: JR channel Xpander
Do you have a matchbox or xpander? For the flaps you need a matchbox. Actually you don't need either. With the HItec servos you can change the speed and the endpoints of the servos using the programmer and just use a couple of y-connectors. The xpander is for using one channel to control several on-off devices. Don't know how you used the xpander on your elevators and ailerons before it is a non-proportional device.

RE: Engine Seizes
First things first. Before you get the engine running take the price tag off the prop and balance it. When the engine stops turning over pick the airplane up turn it upside down and point the muffler opening down. If a bunch of fuel runs out it is completely flooded.

Microfasteners has them for $2.80 / 50 and they only charge $4 for shipping. Tower has a set of servo screws for $1.10 (st# LXDEN5) but you still have to pay $4.99 shipping. They are for the Hitec equivalent. If your local hobby shop carries RC Cars they should have M2.6 screws.

Did you charge the radio? Did you use the correct charger plug for JR/Spektrum? It is the reverse of the Futaba stuff.

RE: tf 1/7 scale mustang gold kit
Come on people a whole roll of monocote with the wrapper, instruction sheet and the cardboard tube only weighs 6.5 oz. I guess math is a lost art these days. The P-51 1/7th scale Mustang kit has 734 sq in of wing area (the ARF has 721) according to Top-Flite's web site. That is ~5.1 sq ft. (Divide sqin by 12 twice to get sqft) multiply by 2 because there is a top and a bottom to the wing. Thats 10.2 sqft Then multiply by 0.2 oz/sqft. Grand total of 2 oz of weight for the wing. So you are looking at maybe 5-6 oz total for the whole plane. The plane will fly fine at anything less than 12 lbs. 10 1/2 would be better. I have a TF AT-6 Texan at 10 1/2 and it flies great and the Texan is fiber-glassed and painted so fiberglassing can easily be done on a plane this size. Don't worry about the lightened backplate as you will most likely need nose weight. You don't need 2300mah in a plane this size for the servos unless you are using digtals all around and then you are overkill on the servos. Use standard servos, I like HS425 for 60 sized warbirds. The HS-125s are fine for the ailerons. The plane was designed for one standard servo driving both ailerons via bell cranks. Don't use the HS-81 unless you get the MG version. The gear train is too weak for this size plane and will strip if you bump them. Figure out what the current draw is for your ignition and get a battery that will be good for about 20 min. Should give you a couple of fights per charge. Are you using retracts? Are they already included in your weight of 10 lbs? Good luck with the plane.

RE: Wescraft B-17 Restoration
I would go with the gyro before I changed the rudder. The rudder should have plenty of authority and the gyro will use it much quicker than the pilot would. Once the rotation gets started you need more rudder to stop it then you can run out or usually overshoot and go off the other side of the runway. I have a B-26 in similar sorry shape I just haven't started it yet.

RE: TF Gold Edition 1/7 P-51 engine
Get a Magnum 91 FS. I have had one on my AT-6 Texan for several years and it has been a good engine. Only real problem was the muffler header cracked from vibrations. I replaced it with the OS equivalent and it has been fine.

RE: Cycle a new 4.8v NIMH ????
If your battery is the 2000mah AA NIMH type get rid of it. They have some of the highest internal resistance of any of the cells. As soon as there is any load they drop their voltage. A big no no with Spektrum. A standard 700mah NICD will do better. If you want to use NIMH get the short fat 2/3 A cells. Going to 5 cells doesn't help either with this type of batt b/c it just makes the servos try to pull more amps which the pack can't produce. No fancy charging method will help. Save the 2000mah cells for your transmitter.
