New Falcon props and spinners
Falcon has some new CF stuffs coming soon. I like to share some test data in here. Not sure when will they available. New props: 21x13.5 and 21.5x13 Both are V2 (light version). Current draws are similar to the 21x14 V2, see datalog attached. Test condition: Himax 6330-210, CC ICE 80HV, Power Unlimited 10S LiPo pack. For those pilots who feel 21x14 or 20.5x14.5 are too hot, you may try these new props. CF spinners: original and slot It seems to me they are similar to the Marquet spinner but lighter. See pix below. Both are pre-cut to fit the Falcon CF prop. The prototype I got is 82mm diameter. Jarvis of MPI told me that they will have 76mm diameter as well. CF landing gear and wheel pants: vertical height is 8.5" (from mount surface to wheel axle). It adds 1" more clearance (I was using Bolly F3A CF landing gear; ~7.5" vertical height) that I feel more safe when using the pricy V2 prop [:D] It is slightly lighter than the Bolly, but not significant. My old 7.5" height Bolly CF landing gear plus Hyperion wheel panels are 152 grams. The new 8.5" height CF landing gears plus wheel panels are 145 grams. (both w/o wheels) In my opinion, all the new composite e-airplanes on market are very light. Weight seems no more a big issue. We don't have to spend big bucks to save few grams like old days. But it is always good to have more options available for us. [:)]

RE: Suggestions on the HiMax 6330-200 Motor prop adapter
ORIGINAL: DA4rc Joe, I run the AXI 8mm adapter on my himax motors, Chris has them at F3A Unlimited. Seems to have plenty of threads and is lighter than the Himaxx adapter. The -200 motor and that prop will pull about 2800 watts. Dale
Not sure which motor you are talking about. 6332-230 you can replace the prop hub by AXI 8mm prop hub. I did on mine years ago, it works great. But I didn't like this motor, it runs too hot, draining too much current in today's standard. 6330-200 (and 210) has different configuration. The steel shaft extends out of the aluminum prop base plate, see illustration below. You need to chop off that extension otherwise the AXI prop hub won't fit. A briefly check, when using AXI prop hub, the length from motor base to the prop base will be 72mm, not the original of 69mm. In this case, it will be a permanent modification.

RE: HiMax 6330-200 ESC settings
Only one comment on the brake; 40% brake sometimes may hear squeal noise when pull out from idle dive (not every time that puzzled me). I found 30% works better. never hear the squeal noise again, brake effect looks the same as 40%. Also, the brake delay and brake ramp settings are insensitive when using 30% brake. Hope this will help. Luke

RE: CC ICE2 80HV current reading calibration
Conversion factor: This is a parameter to let me convert my ICE2 80HV current reading to the real current. Plot the standard current vs. ICE2 80HV current reading using Excel, then add trend line and show the fitting equation. For this ESC, the conversion formula is: Real current (A) = 0.9548 x ICE2 reading

RE: CC ICE2 80HV current reading calibration
ORIGINAL: wingster Any idea if the voltage measurements are OK?
Voltage measurements are affected by length of cable, number of connectors etc. Each contact causes mV range drop. But a briefly check, they are statistically matched. Voltage conversion factor: Watts Up: 1.0007xWattsUp reading (V) EagleTree: 1.0054xEagleTree reading (V) ICE2 80HV: 1.0061xICE2 reading (V) Not surprise..... WatssUp is closer to the battery, and ICE2 is at the far end; the reading is lower than the voltage at battery side. I believe (not try yet), if I series them (to the battery) one each time to minimize the cable length and # of contactors, the voltage reading should be the same Luke

RE: CC ICE2 80HV current reading calibration
ORIGINAL: DaveL322 Luke, I noticed the same thing several years ago when I started running the ICE ESCs - logging showed higher amps and mah than my Eagletree. What amount of the differences do you think could be attributed to connectors / solder joints? Regards, Dave
Dave: Not sure, since all of them are series together, so the current is the same. My best guess is the software, or the way how it calculates the current. There are many other ICE2 80HV in my area, I might try to test the others to see if it is a systematic shift. If so, it may relate to CC's calibration equipment. Luke

CC ICE2 80HV current reading calibration
Just got my new CC ICE2 80HV. I love its data logger function, but the current reading seems higher than my Eagle Tree data logger. Since my job relates to a lot of tool calibrations, so I like to share how I calibrate these current readings. Figure 1 shows the setup. ICE2 80HV, Eagle Tree and Watts Up are series together, so the current is the same. Current standard is read from a calibrated current shunt (1mV=1Amp), voltage across this current shunt is picked up by a calibrated Keithley 2010 precision multimeter. Each measurement is repeat twice in opposite polarity to eliminate the thermal noise. Table shows the results: just as I suspected, the current reading from CC ICE2 80HV data logger is off by ~4.5% at high current (>30A) range, while Eagle Tree and Watts Up are off less than 1.4%. Well, the calibration will NOT improve anything, just curious how accurate those numbers are.[:D]
