RE: MK
ORIGINAL: speed-panzer Very nice to see, cool pics. Did Hanno leave the Magic in Acapulco after the championships? 30 years gone already.... Looks like the plane was flown later without the variable pitch prop.
Hi speed-panzer, Take a look at the thread below and help us to know the history http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_10736002/tm.htm Regards
ORIGINAL: JeffH
ORIGINAL: daggets one of the best championship ever..... very interesting picture.... the prettner magic is.... ugly!!! the paint job is damaged and the plane not very well built!! at this level, in 1981, there are still old kosmo 3 and mach 1.... and competitive! a special edition of thouse time famous simprop sam had been made, the ''acapulco edition''... a very nice period for competition!!!!
Pics of the plane on the table without a spinner are modern day, check out the EFlite foamie in the background!
Hi JeffH, You are right.... that pic was taken 10 days a go..... Here is a picture of Hanno and the Magic, the trophy of the left is the one that won in Acapulco.... look at the motor, Is that a Super Tigre and Kato variable pitch prop?... original motor is no longer in the plane.... RE: World Championship Acapulco 1981
ORIGINAL: cllaurit If that is in fact the original Magic then I wouldn't say it wasn't built well but didn't age well. Did Hanno leave the plane there after the WC or was it a backup one?
Hi cllaurit, On September 16, 17 and 18, a celebration was held in honor of the 30th anniversary of World Aerobatic Championship Acapulco 1981, and a pilot took the plane: Magic This aircraft was a participant in 1981, and never meant to leave Acapulco... the plane no longer has the original motor and is not even flying, but it was a very pleasant surprise to have him there. If anyone knows more about this plane would be interesting to know its history... By the way, the first 3 photos posted were taken in 1981, the last 4 were taken 10 days ago in the celebration days... Regards

RE: Making Extra 300 80" totally composites
Finally flew!!!! OK guys, saturday was the big day..... After some weeks verifying, and cheeking every thing, Extra flew.... here is the day report: - Range test engine off: 80 meter (262ft, I can't believe it) - Range test engine ON: 74 meter 242ft, I can't believe it too) - Temperature: 30° Centigrades (86° farenheit) - Humidity: I don't know - Altitude: 1500 meter ASL (5000 ft ASL) After verify again and again, was time to fly.... First some pic's before big moment (just in case hehehe) Tax to airway head, idle, check surface movement is correct and GO!!! Extra start to acelerate, and after 10-15 meter the adventure start.... climb without any correction, only some elevator... first turn (left)... fly level and verify trim... only 3 click up elevator.... aileron and rudder without changes.... ok, 1/3 engine and plane start to climb alone (just a little)... mmmhh maybe it's a little tail heavy.... I think you call it "ballooning" 1/2 engine, left roll OK; right roll, OK; at this point I can feel my hands for the first time, and are all wet and I'm very nervous... AAJJJUUUAAAAA!!!!! it's flying...... I'm not a 3D guy (I want to be) but I think: "why not"..... take some altitude, and start a harrier (that's what I think)... engine at idle, level descend, wings solid level without any comand and parachute start... WOW... wings totally level.... at high altitude yet, I try torkroll (I'd never done one before, only at simulator) and yes!!! it start to hover and then torkroll, but when plane start to round I cannot command well, so get out.... and continue flying 2 rounds more... OK; after some emotion and some claps from people at airfield, it's time to practice aproach.... verify wind direction, 1/3 engine, turn left and descent.... all go OK.... 5 meter... 4 meter.... 3 meter.... 2 meter.... 1 meter.... and plane try to "balloon".. ok, some more engine and take the eart... ¡ouch! ... not the best landing.... propstrike.... ouch.... plane on ground safely.... OK, not so safely, prop is broken, and maingear block is broken too.... after that, all is OK..... Now some pic's after big moment... May be ballooning can be out changing CG, may be it's too tail heavy for me and need practice to know well first... OK; this week to workshop, and next weekend to fly again.... Girlfriend try to take good pictures, but that was just on land; on the air pic's was horrible.... here are any way...

RE: Making Extra 300 80" totally composites
After install radio, without any other function, is time to test range here at home first... OK, procedure was: ENGINE OFF - only receiver and one servo out of plane, 4.8V battery - receiver inside plane and throttle servo 4.8V - One by one other servos DISTANCE 33mts (100FT) ALL OK without glitches ENGINE ON Same procedure DISTANCE 33mts (100ft) ALL OK without glitches ¡¡¡¡¡ GREAT !!!! Same procedure with 6.0V battery pack and same results looks like problem was the old radios.... I can't take some long distance here at street, so next step is check test range at field and verify distance where glitches start First conclusions are: - Carbon fiber don´t cause interference issues - Old radios need service (one is sold now) - Radio signal is solid, without glitches - 4.8 or 6.0 Volts are OK So, next weekend is the great day... First I'll make a test range and if all is OK, FLY..... Wish me good look

Cut greay foam to fit places inside case; cut holes to radio size and any other stuff you want... here hot wire is very useful, look at CNC machine...

RE: Making Extra 300 80" totally composites
First step is to protect new baby..... I must buy a case, look and find cost too much for me..... a regular case are $860.00 (about 78 dollars) Then I decided make my own..... why not.... Go to Sam's Club and buy aluminum paper case for about 18 dollars, some grey foam for about 15 dollars... Here is working process: Cut out all you don't need
