RE: Top Flite AT6 ARF
Maddieone here, It has been a while but this thread has been going on for a long, long time. This plane flys beautifully with an OS 91 FS swinging a 15X6 prop. Those of you who are considering using other types or sizes of engines could very well be making a mistake. I have never been disapointed by the OS 91's. In fact that is what is in all of my 60 size airplanes. That's my two cents

Topace212, It would appear that you are not exactly floating in dough so might I suggest that you look into Seagull models. They make a large assortment of planes that are well constructed, well covered and fly great. Your other choices are Hangar 9 and Great Planes but they cost more. I personally will never buy another Top Flite anything due to my experience with the AT-6.

I finally got tired of the BS I had with this plane, took all of the gear out of it and gave it to a kid at the field. Now that turkey is his problem. No more Top Flite anything’s for me.

RE: Top Flite AT6 ARF
Well, I finally had an incident with my AT-6. I was taking off and a cotton picking deer came out of the woods at the end of the runway and I was about to hit her. I pulled full up on the elevator and as we all know what happens in that condition, I stalled her. I pushed down to get her as level as possible and she went into the weeds flat. The resulting damage was that the gear came out of the wing completely. The rails broke off. I also had other damage to the wing. But on the good side, Tom's boxes kept the gear from shattering. Have to straighten the wires but that is no biggie. Going to ask for a new wing kit for Christmas as I have a lot of other planes to fly and the flying season is just about done here in Michigan. RE: H9 60 Size P-47 Thunderbolt-Build & Flying
Hey Gang, My two cents........ I have three Hangar 9 war birds including the JUG. All three have had the same problem, in that, the position for mounting the retract servo is two low in the wing. You have to raise the servo tray at least 3/8th of an inch so that the control rods do not bind on the wheel well covers. Also, it does not take a lot of torque to cycle the retracts as long as there is no binding. Curt

RE: Top Flite AT6 ARF
ArrowNaughtic: Pretty sure that all of the kits end up with the GAP. I used Formula 560 to glue mine on and after they dried I went back with a couple of fills in the gap and in other places. 560 dries clear and after I was done the gap is barely noticeable. You definitely need to contact Tom. My buddy thought that I was blowing smoke about the retracts and ended up going through two sets, a cowl and a new wing before he got in contact with Tom. The boxes work and I have at least thirty or so landings with no problems. Curt

RE: Golden Skies Crossfire
I had the Crossfire 320 for over three years. The only reason I do not have it now is that I got a deal I could not refuse. Guy really wanted the plane. The plane is constructed and covered excellently. Lee at Golden Skies upgrades the hardware package and I did not use other hardware when I assembled the plane. She is a very stable flyer at all speeds. And since she is sort of a pattern ship she can do a lot of tricks. You need to get used to slowing down a little sooner for landings but after a few you will have no problems. Curt

mgrande11, For what it is worth, when I need to fill holes in hardwood, I use carpenters plastic wood. Epoxy can make the drill jump off center from where you want the hole to be. The other thing that I do is not use the screws that come in the kits. I drill and tap for small nylon bolts. The nylon bolts do not vibrate and I have never had one loosen up and fall out. Also, the nylon does not fatigue the wood. Curt

RE: Top Flite AT6 ARF
groundpounder17, You don't need digital servos for this airplane or 6 volt batteries. The digitals were brought out for the 3D folks especially helicopters. Earlier I suggested two brands of servos that are both reasonably priced and very dependable. I am running those in a quarter scale Extra 300 and in 60 and 120 size airplanes and the biggest battery that I use is 1500 mah Ni-Cd. Team, I sent my gear back to Hobbico, I spoke to that on a previous page, and the set they sent me look just like the ones I had. During the process Sonny mentioned that the new ones were not available yet. So in short I don't have a clue as whether or not I was sent the new gear. Swixtt, That is one good looking airplane. Great job. Curt

My two pennies: I use both Hitech 645MG's and Futaba 3305 servos. I like them both and have not had a failure to date. I found that I had to cut the flange from the top of the connector on the Futaba's to get them to fit into the DX7 receiver.

RE: H9 60 Size P-47 Thunderbolt-Build & Flying
Hey JUG Team, Well I finally finished assembling my JUG. I have an OS 91 FS as power. I mounted the servos in the tail and had to add eleven ounces at the fire wall to get her to balance. All up dry weight is nine pounds, one ounce, so I am one ounce over max. Don't feel that it will hurt the running of it any. Only mods that I did was to place the 1500 MAH battery under the fuel tank next to the firewall and put spacers at the rear of the retract flange. And yes she shakes like a belly dancer when she is sitting at rest. I will not get a chance to fly for a few weeks, company business. Will let you all know how I make out. Curt

RE: H9 60 Size P-47 Thunderbolt-Build & Flying
Mgrande11, When I installed mine I noticed that when the wires were touching the servo did not buzz but I could feel some movement when I grabbed the servo. That is what led me to cutting the wires so that they cannot touch. Apparently retract servos don't buzz when they stall.

Mgrande11, You don't get to "travel adjust" on any of the radios. The servo being what it is does 180's to actuate the gear. Make sure that the gear wires are not contacting each other when the gear is retracted. I had binding and I cut mine off just past the connector. Any adjustments have to be made by moving in or out on the control arm. Curt

RE: H9 60 Size P-47 Thunderbolt-Build & Flying
My condolences. Excellent information looks really good. mgrande11, If it is the stock gear, when the gear is retracted you will see a small set screw on the top of the swing arm. To reduce wobble you turn the screw out a little. Extend the gear and if you still have wobble, retract the gear and turn the screw some more. Repeat until wobble goes away. Be careful to not turn the screw too far, do a little at a time, as that could cause the gear to not function properly. Curt

Tiffoso, That is clever idea hiding the servos. I think that I will put mine in the fuse just as soon as I figure out where to cut into the fuse for the rods to exit. And also how to support the rods. Curt P.S. Don't worry about your English, because aren’t none of us that can speak Portuguese. [sm=teeth_smile.gif]

Hey, don't worry about the gear doors. The ones on my H9 P51 do not go flush either; you just have to make sure that the locknuts are on the outside of the doors. Yeah it looks ugly but I decided not to reinvent the wheel. The only anomaly I noticed is that when the gear is retracted the plane wants to climb slightly. I fixed the problem by mixing in some down elevator when the gear retracts.
