CP Pro esc and telebee gyro setup
Installed these in my axe cpv3 since the 3 in 1 went kaput. Can anyone walk me through the setup procedure? (99.9% sure its wired right) Should I somehow disable the gyro altogether until I get the mix on the esc right? Any help is appreciated...

RE: Advice on First Helicopter
I pretty much agree with gmscholl but heres my experience. My first heli was a Blade MCX. It's a coaxial and very easy to hover and gets you familiar with the controls. If price was a factor I would recommend you get one of these. Yesterday I saw that my LHS stocks the Blade MSR. The MSR is advertised as a step up from the MCX and gets you on the road towards fixed pitch/collective pitch flying. Price was $30 or so more than an MCX. After you wet your whistle on the indoor/micro heli's, you will want to be outside and flying 3D like on youtube videos. But like gmscholl said, here is where a trainer is invaluable. It's a whole lot cheaper in the long run to be able to hit the reset button on the sim rather than fix your copter every time you wreck. And you WILL wreck. So now you can hover the sim and want one of the big boys. My advice would be to get something with a belt for the tail drive. Blade 400 is supposedly a good beginner heli and comes RTF with a dx6i transmitter. Parts might be a little more expensive than a 450 clone. A 450 clone is probably cheapest to build, cheapest parts, most widely used.

RE: Differance between sim and real deal?
I learned to fly my blade mcx, got bored with it and got an Ave cpv3. Couldn't hover it and after a few crashes I bought the realflight 4.5 By the next day I could at least hover it a whole pack without breaking anything, still working on basic FF. It is a very quick and light heli and gets away kinda easy but you know what? They have a Axe cp on the sim and its about just as hard on there too. Got a E-flite G110 gyro coming for it soon... I kept reading the 450 size is great for a beginner...bigger being more stable. So I just bought one of the trex450 clones and everything except a receiver, radio and charger for under $250. Of course, I got some extas and hopups so it could be done for even cheaper. I figure it will be fun to build and cheaper to fix!

RE: Simulator Add-on...
Knife edge has a Trex 600 on their swap pages. I tried the DC-10 and liked it alot. Didn't see the others but there is an index by first letter at the bottom [link=http://www.knifeedge.com/forums/downloads.php?do=cat&id=332&productfilter=&sort=rating]http://www.knifeedge.com/forums/downloads.php?do=cat&id=332&productfilter=&sort=rating[/link] Also, get these 5 free add-on volumes if you haven't already. Axe cpv3 questions
This is my first serious heli and have some questions. First, as soon as I get it in the air to hover, it yaws left every time. I have to give it a little right rudder to correct it and thats with the trim tab all the way to the right. How can I adjust the center point? Or i'm thinking there is a problem with the tail motor? Has anybody added a gyro using the cp pro 2in1 controller (eflh1032)? I am considering this option instead of the gy240 and seperate esc like in the directions. Just looking for opinions. First half dozen battery packs I ALWAYS broke something..usually blade grips or tail rotor. Got the realflight g4.5 and have gone through 3 packs and only broke a main blade this morning. Would be nice to get the tail working right though. Thanks for any help!

RE: Axe cpv3 questions
Thanks, I see which potentiometer I need to adjust. Not sure of the direction but I will mark current position and go small increments. I ordered an e-flite g110 and the electri-fly c-12 esc from my LHS today when I picked up the new blades. What about blade grip screws? I adjust them to the same tension but after I run a pack, they are sloppy loose. Should I use some blue loctite or is it really not a big issue?

bought a cpv3 today! does a gyro really help?
My only other experience is with my blade mcx. I was getting bored with it and decided I needed something bigger that can fly outside. I was actually able to get it to hover a few times today but ended up breaking a tail rotor blade and then one of the main blade grips. After doing some research, I see some are adding aftermarket gyros to help tame these. What is the easiest method of doing this and will it really make a noticeable difference? One method is adding a seperate esc for the tail while the other method involves a cp pro esc to replace the 3in1. I don't care about money, just convenience. I dont want to re-train an esc every time I change batteries. Thanks for any help!

RE: OFFICAL NITRO 4-TEC THREAD
Yes but it came with a bottle of oil...wondered what weight was in it. Doesn't matter now... Also, I have a parma type M body but want to use the stock. Only it runs a little warm. How should I trim the windshield so it'll stay cooler? Looks like just a circle cutter near the top would work better than messing with the outline of the windshield As far as tricked out cars...here is 1 I just found trying to do a search on the body cutout.. XXL tuning
I did tank 4 breakin today and had some bad luck. It started great and ran great until there was a high idle. I richened the hsn 1/4 turn and then it would stall. To make a long story short, I reset the needles to factory (2.75 for HSN and 2.5 for LSN) and found the LSN was more than 3 turns out from factory. Then my receiver battery died and after trying to finish the tank without a radio, the igniter was dead. What are you guys running for settings? Today was 80 degrees and 60% humidity.

RE: one way bearing
its slipping because its either dirty or cracked. You will need to do disassemble it either way to inspect it. If its dirty then clean it with rubbing alcohol or wd-40. If it keeps happening then the backplate is leaking. If its cracked then clean it with some money..aka buy a new one. [image]http://www.cornbread.com/~ratta/dd1way.jpg[/image]

Best XXL body
Other than stock, which bodies fit? I was looking at the ProLine F650 but I doubt it would cover the exhaust up like the stock. Or say forget it and go extreme with a wing and redcat semi body if I could find a clear one to paint. What else is out there?

RE: Recieved My XXL Today :):)
Did you make sure the brake isnt dragging? I got around to doing tank 1 on mine yesterday. Mine will click in reverse if in forward gear and vice versa. Tank 1 was a pain but I leaned both needles 1/8 turn or so and figured out.....give it VERY little throttle while using the roto start (or you could trim the heck out of the servo) and it starts every time. Then, fluctuate the gas from idle up to under 1/4 throttle slowly and then back down to idle. This way it doesn't flood, and the truck doesn't move. Also mark the flywheel so piston isnt top dead center when cooling. Off to do tank 2.....have a safe trip!

RE: Anyone know factory needle settings for O.S. .18 CV-R engine?
It depends on your carb. I have the rotary carb and my manual says the LSN (on pivot of throttle lever) should be a half trurn IN (clockwise) from flush. My HSN looks a good 1.5 turns IN from flush. If you have the slide carb, my manual says the LSN should be 1.5 turns IN from flush. Kinda weird it doesn't specify turns out from fully closed but it should get you runnin.

RE: Want a big block nitro
SugaFree..the link you posted for the brace is the same as the XXL rtr link. For now, I managed to get my Hot Bodies Dirt Demon running. Must have been in storage for 6 or 7 years. It had a cracked one-way bearing when it was barely even broke in and I never touched it again. I will keep the DD for sentimental reasons and bash the XXL. I went down to my LHS and asked for a price on the XXL and the guy said he would call me with it and never did. Looks like I will be ordering one soon. Thanks all for the help in steering me in the right direction!

Want a big block nitro
So, I decided I really want a truck for bashing. I was set on the SavageXL but everything I've read says the motor is sub-par. I don't know enough about the MGT 8.0 or LST XXL yet to make a decision on them. If price wasn't an issue, which big block nitro truck (not necessarily ones I listed) would you get and why?

RE: POST YOUR WORKS HERE!
All paint, Heres my first attempt in I dont know how many years. Most of my old bodies were 1 or 2 colors and very plain. Now that I've returned to r/c, I got myself a cutter and decent airbrush setup. It was going OK until I tried a "new" 8 year old can of pactra sprint white to finish it off and it wouldn't spray, just kinda spit. Oh well! RE: OFFICAL NITRO 4-TEC THREAD
ok just an update: Got the factory mounted x-patterns, aluminum wheel hubs, aluminum axle carriers, and the big bore shocks. I also got the acer racing ceramic nitride bearing kit but when putting the carriers and hubs on, I noticed the wheels already had bearings....might send it back. Worked late last night and early this AM to install everything and going to do tank 5 break-in today. Just wondering if there are any good setups for starting out before tweaking? I thought I saw one before but can't find t now.

Selecting a vinyl cutter
I am ready to get a vinyl cutter and wondered if some owners could help steer me in the right direction. My requirements: 1) for r/c body use mainly (24" and under) 2) I only use photoshop elements 6 right now but I think the ability to create templates using scanned artwork is important. 3) able to do detailed work like tiny logo's, lettering, offset flames, bordered winows 4) I don't want to be super cheap about it and not be happy with it but not really looking to spend more than 4-500 So I have looked at the craft robo 2, and MH series from uscutters and they seemed ok. The Roland Stika series seems pricey. Is there a quality edge on these over the robo? If any of you experienced guys with cutters can help me out, i'd really appreciate it. I am ready to buy!

RE: Victory-rc picture thread
Nice stuff !! I'm sure we all could use some pointers. I am interested in how to make the custom masks like on the rockstar body and how to do the carbon fiber look. Most of my old paint jobs were solid color or fades but now that i have a decent airbrush and a compressor, I'd like to make them more detailed.

RE: OFFICAL NITRO 4-TEC THREAD
Hi all. First time poster here! About a week ago I dug out my old HPI RS4 MT which i converted to on-road with 2spd tranny and .18-cv-rs which is pretty dang fast. But I wanted faster so I sprung for the 4-tec. I was a little annoyed to find that the factory receiver was DOA - contacted traxxas on the issue and thay are sending me a replacement. The guy said they dont have a 2215 but would send me another model. I wonder if it will be a downgrade or upgrade. I didn't want to wait and bought a futaba micro receiver and venom failsafe and got through tank #2 breakin yesterday. Hopefully I will finish breaking it in this morning but on to my question...whats the word on shock upgrades? Here were some I was looking at. Any recommendations or suggestions are appreciated. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXJFE3&P=7 (due in late may) http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXKMH2&P=7 http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXVXA3&P=7 I am also going to order some x-patterns and a sway bar kit with the shocks. I would also like to upgrade to ball bearings. Why does this page list several kits? http://www.traxxas.com/products/nitro/n4tec33/trx_n4tec33_accessories.htm Why do I neeed (2) 2728 bearing kits? I know 2 bearings for steering but what about the other 2? Thanks for any help.
