New edge 540T from CMP
beautiful bird and a nice price as well.. if it flys as well as the 80"330L it should be a winner.. [link=http://www.nitroplanes.com/edge-540t-50cc-giant-scale-rc-plane.html]CMP Edge 540T[/link] this one should fly well on the same motor I have in my Extra330L-- FTL 45cc gasser from hobbycity.com-- cost effective setup to get you into giant scale ships on the cheap side..[;)]

RE: F27 STRYKER -Way Past the Limits Part 6 -Go deeper in to the Dark Side...
Ray and All, been running the DX7 for a few months now, on nitro helis, glow planes, electric stuff, and now gas models... one thing I learned quick is to use a very good and reliable battery system.. on all mine I run 3s lipos and regulators at 6volts... the weight is the same as a good NIMH 5cell and I can fly it all weekend without worry about battery charging.. I use the system down to 10 volts and then charge it or swap packs out... the lipo drop-off is too fast after 10v to take any chances with a reboot in-flight.. did it with a chopper and it wasn't pretty.. great way to use some of the old tech/low c rating packs... even if they have a bad cell.. remove the bad cell and make them 2s packs for flight systems.. good solid consistant power, with plenty of reserve capacity.. it's a perfect match for DX7 requirements rock on![:D]

XH20, make sure the right side elevon is in the aileron TX channel (which ever that is on a berg) left side in the elevator channel.. make sure the servos are opposing each other with both servo heads either fore or aft but servos are opposing with both servo's arms facing center or both facing outside.. you may have to reverse a channel on the tx as well.. rock on

Hey GG .. Just strolling thru myself and caught your post.. interesting.. I just had to change out an aileron servo in my 27% extra and the set is pretty new.. using DX7 and did bind when I was complete in setup.. but don't believe I did a binding after I setup spoilerons and flaperons.. but anyhow Just did the bind again after the change out and we'll see what happens.. the servo didn't break teeth, just lost it's center and got real wishy washy.. good to see you still kicking around along with the rest of the stryker dudes.. rock forth[:D]

RE: nitro models extra 330 80"
just a note to those gettng ready to build this one.. be advised to flood some epoxy on the inside of the fuse where the landing gear mounts.. just look in there and you'll see where to flood it.. both sides have a protrusion in the fuse that widens the footprint of the landing gear.. the glass there is too thin for supporting high-drag landing conditions especially with the pants on.. mine has started to show some cracking in that area.. I overshot the grass field and rolled into taller grass at walking speed and the extra drag of the wheel pants did the damage.. the gear didn't fold but some cracking was starting to show.. I just flooded a good amount of epoxy in that area and worked it up along the ply former that creates the gear mount... solid as hell now.. and took the wheelpants off.. I'll save 'em for those lookin' pretty days[8|]

RE: nitro models extra 330 80"
kit quality is excellent as is fit and finish... hardware is very good.. I particularly like the hinges with the control horn fixed to the hinge.. it puts the clevis connection right at the hinge pivot point. the only one I didn't like was that same setup for the rudder.. the angle of the control horn hits the fuse before decent 3D deflection is achieved.. more then ample for sport flying but for 3d stuff you'd want more throw.. now for the best part.. the flight report.. absolutely an awesome flyer.. turned on rails, no snapping out, no bad tendencies at all .. pulled some full speed full deflection loops and could not get it to snap out.. which was just the opposite of the 50 size same plane from NM... that thing would snap out just looking at the elevator stick.. the landings were a dream.. I setup 20% flaps and 10% elevator mix and it was perfect when I had no wind at all (small field) a 4mph headwind and I didn't use the flaps.. initial stall is a square mushy stall and the second stall would drop a wing but it was really coming slow.. I fully expected much worse stall charactoristics but I was thrilled to see how well it floated in.. knife-edge was a dream with an ever so slight tuck to the gear and very little rudder required at speed. flat spins were nice both inverted and regular.. not super flat but nice.. blenders were cool ..I didn't do any power-on blenders, just free-fall.. inverted flight required just a touch down elevator (perfect) .. uplines and downlines were sweet.. the right thrust in the mounting box is perfect.. hovers easily and torque-rolls fast for the size of the plane.. I was turning a topflight 22-10-6 and that helped the torquerolls quite a bit.. I didn't even try another prop.. the setup was sweet as pie so why mess with success.. flew almost a gallon of fuel in her, no mishaps, landings were grease.. just an awesome day at the field... I did lose one wheel pant.. they are weak where the small piece of ply is fixed to the inside of the pants .. when I got home I took them both off and reinforced the area with epoxy and fiberglass mesh from the inside... when I removed the one that didn't pop off there was cracking in the same spot.. so do reinforce those prior to install and save yourselves that headache... one thing I found odd during the build/assembly was that there are no anti-rotation pins for the horz stabs.. just a spar and they are fastened with epoxy after sanding the mating surfaces.. it all worked out fine just thought it was odd.. my CG is 5" from the LE and it was sweet right there.. could even be more aft happy camper here![:D] MF

RE: nitro models extra 330 80"
finished mine a few days ago and broke in the engine.. have it ready for maiden tomorrow.. put in the 45cc FTL engine from hobbycity.. comes with a very good ignition box with electronic advance, an ugly muffler, wreches, mounting hardware and spark plug.... engine runs great and starts easy .. comes with a walbro carb that tuned it up nicely.. after 5-6 tanks it was turning a 20-10 at 7200rpm and a 22-6-10 at 6900 and gaining rpm on every tank.. weighed out at 12lbs 9oz dry.. I don't know where they got the 15 pound weight in the ad... wing loading works out at 27oz per sqft.. set mine up with spoilerons and flaperons .. I'm using 2 2100 3s lipo and regulators for ignition and rx.. both had to be mounted way up front in the engine mounting box to get the recoed CG even close... right now I'm just a tiny bit aft of that with an empty tank and a 1/4 tank puts me right on.. took a couple pics .. the color in them is waay off.. the blue is more the tone of royal blue.. much darker then the pic shows.. don't look at the mess![:D] I'll have a flight report tomorrow

RE: nitro models extra 330 80"
I have mine coming next week.. my plan is to get it in the air as cost effective as possible.. it's gonna sport a 45cc gas 2 stroke (china made) looks like the venum engine. digital metal geared servos (from china) doubling them up for elevator and rudder.. a single DX7 rx powered by a 3s2100 lipo with regulator to 6v and a second lipo and reg for the ignition on 6v.. should have it in the air for under $700.. just finished the 50 size red extra 330L to maiden this weekend with an OS55ax turning a 14x4w apc.. should have some pretty wicked torque.. I love these CMP models.. very nice quality, very durable construction and coveing finish.. hoping the 80" extra330L is just as nice an arf it'll be my first gasser.. pretty stoked![:D]

thanks E_Heli, I have the parts coming..
ORIGINAL: E_Heli Maine_Flyer You have to put heat sink in the tail motor, the E-flite Blade CP heat sink will work, get two for the tail. Stock motor has plenty of power with 10C 3S 800-1200mah lipo pack. Someone post an equation to calculate the head speed from motor Kv and gear ratio here do a search. I would start with 14-15T pinion

RE: Walkera 22E Lets Talk
got my 22e last week after months of sim flying.. got it all setup.. well best i could with the slop in the head and servos.. she hovers pretty stable with little vibration.. I'm running the 3s li-ion packs and get a good solid 10 minutes of power.. I have a heatsink on the main motor but not the tail anyhow, I have a couple questions.. I want more power.. can I run a sp400 motor in it? or more importantly, I have a few brushless setups I'd like to put into it later on .. I've seen the brushless recoed motor and esc, but I can't find the KV of that motor to see if I have something already here... I have one align 2500kv and 25amp esc--will that be enough kv? and where can one get a pinion that will work? the shaft is 3.17mm ... what do you think I need with that KV for a pinion tooth count.. how does the brushless wiring go? pretty decent little heli once it's balanced and setup right.. thanks in advance gentlemen[:D]

RE: F27 STRYKER - Way Past the Limits - Part 5 - Step in to the Dark Side...
critter, I'm running that motor in my scratch-built sailplane at 32oz auw with a 10x5 apc folder w/ 4s 3100 12c... pulls 19 amps WOT and likes it.. I'm guessin that on 3s you could run an APC 11x5.5E for similar amps and push that plane with decent authority... I've run it to 25 amps on 4s in the winter but settled in with the 19 amps 10x5 prop on 4s.. I have a 10x6 folder I run for 3s for similar power but not quite.. just watch the winding color.. if it starts to discolor your on the edge [:D]
ORIGINAL: critterhunter Since some of us take the liberty of posting non-Stryker builds here and there on this thread, I figured I'd post my latest creation with a 6 foot wingspan... Last night I did a few cold ones in the garage and worked on my scaled up dual boomer. For the most part I've just doubled the dimensions. This bird is going to also serve as my AP platform. I threw it together with toothpicks for the photo. Everything still needs sanded and it's missing the elevator yet. The horizontal stabilizer also is going to be carved into an airfoil or at least thinned down some. I'm planning to run a 2409-18 motor as a pusher swinging a 10x4 or 10x5 or so, maybe an 11. Have to do the math to see if this motor is going to have enough torque to fly this plane, though I've heard it can lift a two pound plus plane into the air with no problem. Wing is going to be in two pieces and removed from the fuse/booms via nylon bolts. The original design uses a single aileron and elevator but I'm thinking elevator and dual rudders for this build (since AP is easier with rudders), so I'll give the wing a bit of dehidral at the tips for stability. Servos will be HS81s, Battery: 20C 2200ma 3 cell. A few other statistics: Foam: Regular White "Box" Foam From Home Depot. Fins Are Cell Foam 88, Fuse: 29", Booms: 40", Wing: 6'x7" Clark-Y, Horizontal Stabilizer: 8x24", Elevator: 4x24" (Missing in Photo), Fins: 11x8" In the picture is a yard stick laying across the wing for scale. She's a monster. Should be easy to see it real far away for some good aerial video work. The wing loading should be so low that she'll land at walking speed. Then again, I might not be able to get this thing to land. [:D]
XxOoCoBrAoOxX .. I tries PMing the pics for you but had server errors so I'll try it here.. it's glassed around the motormount area w/ 1/2oz glass and finishing resin (thin epoxy w/ slow cure time..30 min.) the carbon rod is epoxied into a cut groove on the under-side; velcro straps are epoxied in as well .. my pack just fits on edge in that huge bay.. balsa elevons and vert stabs also coated with a thin layer of finishing resin, sanded and painted they came in lighter then stock.. the "thunder bat" nose is also lighter the the stock nose.. that's fastened in place with CA.. good luck and lay off the throttle

RE: F27 STRYKER - Way Past the Limits - Part 5 - Step in to the Dark Side...
ORIGINAL: Gryphon ***Looks like they are both switching over to 16/25/2. Main flier recently switched over, ronrico418 is almost ready for his maiden on 16/25/2 and that is what I fly with. 16/25/2 on 3S and APC sport (gas) 7X6 prop has enough performance for almost anyone. (2) 2200-3S 20C batteries in parallel will be enough/minimum for that prop. Easy 800W. I believe if I want to risk damaging the motor that it can get to 120MPH on 3S with 7X8 prop. I may attempt it on low timing advance. On std advance bench testing showed 1050W for Grish Products: TORONADO 7X8 prop. These two motors are seriously under rated at 30A and 35A. The USA distributor does say to keep motor temp at 140F or less, I have not felt any real heat yet. Distributor site for England says that16/25/2 are run at 70A in competition. I hope that helps. Gryphon... RE: F27 STRYKER - Way Past the Limits - Part 5 - Step in to the Dark Side...
check the soldered connections to the motor and ESC.. check for broken wire coming from the stator to the first heat shrink tubing.. sounds like a bad connection or damaged wire.. ... worst case is a shorted curcuit in the motor, or a bad ESC
ORIGINAL: wildjaych I bent the shaft on my 12T motor on my 2nd flight and didnt really notice it. I tried to fly it again and had some other problems so I landed it and then realized the shaft was bent. That has been a month or so ago. I finally had the chance to change the shaft on the 12T motor. When I put it all back together the beeps from the ESC ( i know they actually come from the motor) were very quiet. I almost couldnt here them it was so low. Then I went to throttle up and the motor just shook back and forth. I throttled down and spun the motor by hand and hit the throttle again and it powered up. I let it die down and hit the throttle and it shook back and forth. It would not work right. Do you think I fried the motor or speed control when I flew the plane with the bent shaft? bearings looked good when I had it apart and it didnt bind when I spin by had. What should I check 1st and how do I check it? any suggestions? Anyone? Thanks

ORIGINAL: Gryphon HELP on connectors please, Hi all, I just received my CC125A ESC, but there was a big surprise. The wire is a fat 10 gauge monster. If I just heat up the pre-tinned section and jam in on the 3.5mm connector so some go inside and some go outside, I’m sure there will be many strands that bend and fold back. ****Any ideas or comments will be appreciated. Thanks in advance Gryphon
that's what I'd do for now.. allow some solder to flow over the outside strands to the outside of the connector, then double heat-shrink it.. it'll be fine ... or just solder direct to the motor wires once you know the rotation.. rock on!

RE: F27 STRYKER - Way Past the Limits - Part 5 - Step in to the Dark Side...
ronrico, I'd prop it for 30-35amps and fly it a few times.. 5x3 would be a guess but I'd check it with your meter.. probably 35A WOT.. most important thing is to MAKE SURE the pack is getting good air over all the cells.. if you can place it on edge it will stay cool more evenly with each cell exposed to some air vs one being baried in foam if you lay it in there flat. I leave my battery bay cover completely off and ESC heatsink exposed to air in front of the prop.. stay off the throttle (it's hard) use 10 second bursts and back off.. until you have a better feel for how your pack is holding up..

Mach6, yup, she ripps pretty good. didn't quite hit WOT, it was the first cycle on that pack-- 4s 3250 15c-20c -- I didn't want to push it too hard. yes that was the setup.. 6x3 APC sport (pretty stout) .. I tested it on the bench and it was scary!.. that setup on a funjet would/will be FUN I'm sure... I have the align 2500 in my funjet at 500 watts and it's pretty snappy[:D]..6x4apc and 4s..
