RE: NEW Fliton Inspire 90 Pattern Plane
The thing is I already have the 6S evo packs for my trex. Maybe I need to look at a smaller/lighter plane, like a 60 size? I don't want to puff my packs either. The trex puts my packs for a good workout while doing some hard 3D, but I guess a plane will take even more?

RE: NEW Fliton Inspire 90 Pattern Plane
Thanks for the info. So, the hacker A50 12L would have more punch than the axi4130?. How about the ESC? Would the hacker master 48 be a good choice? Yes, I will be starting from scratch for this plane. I saw that the axi4130/16 and the jeti 77 opto ESC are less than 300 dollars..It looks atractive to me for the price, but I don't know if the hacker would be a better investment. [sm=confused.gif]

RE: NEW Fliton Inspire 90 Pattern Plane
Wow...good news..i used to fly pattern and then got switch to electric helis. I have some 6S FP4900 packs I use in my trex600. This would be agreat choice for me so I can use my packs for pattern too. What would be the best choice for the motor? I am hearing the AXI 4130/16, but how about a hacker motor? which one? and also what ESC? ohh and what prop? I heard hacker are good motors..and don't know anything about axi. are they better? Sorry for so many questions, but a 6S pattern plane is what i was waiting for!!!! [:D] Please advice on the best 6S powerplant for this plane.

RE: Futaba 9cap vs. 9ch throttle sitck question
Vince, Barracuda, Thanks for the great advice! Regarding the SA. i was more atracted to get it because they say it comes with a better head and some upgrades from the SE that do not come on the XL (cde). Otherwise I would go for the XL. I would really like to put the model together and the ARF feature does not impress me either because you are gonna end up checking everything anyway! I was only atracted by the upgrades. Is there anything else "dark" on the SA I am missing? or should I go for the XL instead?

RE: Futaba 9cap vs. 9ch throttle sitck question
Thank you guys, I am just trying to decide which radio should I get. It will be for flying helis and airplanes also. I am just trying to figure out if the 9C heli version is worth the extra 50 buck against the 9C airplane version. I don't know if you get the same smoothess and sensitivity on the throttle by converting the 9cap throttle stick to a "non-ratheted" one. I was wodering if the heli version has a different system to hold the tension or you just get a flat strap. I dont care about the switch position so if that is the case I would just go for the 9CAP. Any one?

Futaba 9cap vs. 9ch throttle sitck question
Hi guys, Does anyone know whats the difference between the system that holds the throttle in the cap against the ch? I know that the 9cap has a dented wheel and a metal strap bended so i clicks on the dents of the wheel. How about the ch? is it a smooth wheel and a flat strap or the wheel is dented too? Thanks a lot! Manuel

RE: my heli bounces up and down
hotboyx, I am learning in a Blade CP Pro too and I have the same problem you have. I also checked every single part of the heli to make sure the setup is right, but I still had the same problem. I learned that whenever you make an elevator/aileron movement the heli tends to drop and the solution is to give a little more power at the same time to compensate the loss of lift. BUT I also learned that the ratcheted throttle makes it way more harder! one single click is a major change for this heli and then you don't have a way to give the right amount of input to make the correction. This also makes the landings bouncy. I have just used a piece of fuel tube to eliminate the clicks on the throttle and now my inputs are more precise and can compensate better. Hope it helps. Manuel

RE: Understanding collective helicopter setup
Thanks for the explanation! question:
"Notice also that the throttle curve changes. In idle up mode we never want the throttle below 50% or else the blade RPM will get too slow. This is where the collective pitch independant of throttle comes into play. In idle up, the blade pitch is no longer dependant on throttle"
does this mean that in idle up mode the throttle is constant no matter what picth the blades have? in that case, is it better to set the throttle close to 100%?... or there is also a mix like throtle increases as I give more negative pitch and it also increases as I give more positive pitch? Thanks, Manuel

Blade CP Pro tale!!!
Here is the story: Yesterday I decided to fly my BCPP at dusk because that’s when the wind is really calm. I was a little dark but I took off anyway (smart). I still have the training gear on it so I am not an expert by no means. It was going well when I decided: let’s try Idle up mode! (smart again) and it was way more stable but a little faster. I fly in a parking lot that is surrounded by trees and I usually have a good perception of depth but….yes you guessed right! I slammed the little guy against a three! Oh man..It was painful to hear the blades cutting branches and leaves, I immediately cut the throttle but…yes, you guessed right! I was in idle up! So I continued to cut leaves and branches until I figured it out. Well now I have the heli stuck in a tree 18 ft high way out of my reach. What do I do? The tree did not look strong enough to climb to so what else? I have nothing in my car that can help me reach the little guy. And I can’t leave and go home to get a broom or something because I would be out of range with my radio and I don’t want to fry the 3 in 1 if its not fried already! Leaving the radio on under the tree came to my mind but I thought of a better but embarrassing option: call my wife for help!... I guess you can imagine any wife laughing at you over the phone when you tell her about the problem you’ve just got yourself into! …well, she came over with a broom and I was able to climb on the top of her SUV and reach the poor guy with a broom. It took me 5 min trying to get it of the tree, it was so messed up up there and the training gear did not help either. Damage report: main shaft bent and plastic gear teeth eaten up by the motor pinion, bent spindle, bent flybar and of course wrecked blades. To my surprise the 3 in 1 is fine and the servos too! I spent the rest of the night working on it and it will be ready to fly again! next time I will do it earlier and be more respectful to idle up mode! Manuel

RE: Adjusting Blade CP to use Futaba 9C
I wanna buy a 9C for my BCPP. Does anybody know what are the advantages of the Futaba 9C helicopter version against the 9C airplane version? I know they both have airplane, heli and glider mode. I also know that the 9C heli has a non ratchted throtle stick but is that all the difference? The 9C airplane is 50 bucks cheaper so I dont know if I am missing something else. Is it worth to pay extra for the heli version? I also know you can add fuel tube to the ratcheted throtle and make it smooth, does the heli version has a throtle stick with a better feel? I know I sound cheap but with 50 bucks i can get an extra set of Lipos and blades. One more question: if I am buying a new radio and I pick the same frequency my BCCP receiver has, would this work and I dont need to buy a separate crystal? or...is it possible to take the crystal that comes in the Futaba 9C Receiver and put it in the BCCP receiver? would this work? Thanks a lot!!!! Manuel

RE: 30% nitro for ys140fz, please help!
Hey guys, Thank you very much for the input. I have tried again with the byron 30% and it runs but the engine is not stable. On high speed I try to get the maximum rpms by regulating the needle but it never maintains the rpms and the same happens on idle. The engine would also stop on idle. Maybe as bigned said, ys would not run on byron 30% but the problem i have is that I cannot get other fuel here since there is only one hobby shop in the whole country and they only sell byron. I was using the byron 20/20 before and it was working fine but here they dont sell it anymore. I might try to order myself a couple gallons of coolpowr from the US but it will get very expensive i guess. Thanks again, Manuel

I have a ys 140 fz installed in my eclipse and I have just got a gallon of Byron Heli Fuel with 30% nitro and 24% synthetic oil. I have tried to run it with this fuel but it gets too hot and runs erratic. Does anyone have experience with this fuel ? I know a lot of people uses the coolpower 30% nitro with the 140dz. How much wing dihedral?
I am building a wing from scratch for a 2m pattern plane very similar to the smaragd and eclipse. The wing is also very similar with 1.87 meters in length. It is gonna be a one piece wing and I do not know how much dihedral I should use. The pic below explains my question better. Any inputs? Thanks in advance [;)] Manuel

RE: Pattern plane from SCRATCH
It is a 2M plane and I am planning to put a YS 140FZ on it. The radio will be my Futaba 9CAP and I am not sure what servos I will use yet but I guess they will not be digitals for budget reasons. I am taking a mix of the smaragd and eclipse lines for this plane since I like the look of them. The plane will be all balsa with foam wings and I am trying to select the balsa as much as I can to keep the weight low. I do not have a jig fo this fuselage size, and I am trying to figure out a way to build it straight. I would have to build a jig myself but I am not sure, is there another way to keep it straight?. I will post more pics as soon as I make some progress. Manuel

RE: CA Model Eclipse building tips
Hello Steve, Thanks for the info, I have another doubt: I saw that you moved the stab tube back also ( 2 1/2 inch from the back edge of the fuselage), if I dont move back 1/2 inch the wing tube, shuld I move the stab tube 1/2 inch forward? (3 inch from the back edge?). I saw that you increased the distance between the stab and wing tube to match your smaragd. Thanks again, Manuel

Hello Steve, Thanks for starting this thread, I am also building an Eclipse and find your tips very helpful!. I understand you are moving the wing tube half inch back to achieve balance since it seems that the tail is heavy, but If I would not have the balance problem, ( planning to use heavier engine) would you still recommend to move the wing tube back? Is the wing tube from your smaragd half inch back too? Thanks, Manuel

Hi Babar, I 've got mine 5 years ago from Robbe. This is their website, www.robbe.com, but I don't think they produce the kit anymore. Mine was an almost ready to cover version. I am still considering the option of building a new fuselage for mine. I am planning to use RcCad to design the fuselage and then print some plans.

RE: Dash 5
I flew a dash 5 for 3 years. I built it my self from the kit and the quality of the wood and the cut was excellent. Specially the wings that are in two pieces all built from wood joined with a tube (ribs, spars and sheets), they came very straight without using a rig. I used two retracts in the wings and a tail wheel instead of the original setup. I did not have any problems with the wings strength and I flew it for 3 years with a OS 61rf and a mac pipe doing very fast snaps and 90 degrees climbs. However I had a bad experience with the tail. I was landing very fast and the asphalt runway was not enough so it went to the grass and because of the sudden stop in the grass the tail broke where the stab and the rudder begins. In my opinion that was its weak point since it happened twice after repairs. The other thing I did not like is the method the designer use to secure the wings once they are plugged to the fuselage with the alu. tube, it is hard to explain but it did not look safe, so I used two bolts, one in each wing. I still have the plane but have not used it in a while. It is a really nice plane for a 60 size engine, I found it very similar to the MK aurora as far as flying characteristics, but maybe today you would rather consider a wider body fuselage. Hope it helps, Manuel

RE: Rubin upgrade
Thanks for your input Jon. I have to built a new fuselage anyway because the current one is not straight anymore after a few accidents and repairs. This is why I was considering to build a new fuselage. I have seen the a Diamant and I noticed that its fuselage is wider and longer than the Rubin and I agree with you, it flies great!. The Rubin has a very slim fuselage. I am attaching a picture of it so you can see it.
