H9 Phoenix 7 or Revolver 70?
I have an OS 75AX and I am considering the H9 Phoenix 7 or the Revolver 70. I like both sport aerobatic and pattern. I would like to hear from people who have any of those 2 planes. If I have to sell the 75 and buy a 95AX, I would but I wonder if I would have to make any modification in any of the 2 airplanes. Thanks,

RE: Larger Revolver
Caloun & Luchnia, I am a nitro guy. I know the gas is cheaper but nitro is more powerful. I have not switch to gas also because of the smell. I keep my planes in the room I sleep. A few guys told me the smell of the gas is stronger than nitro. Maybe if I had a garage. I am not very handy and modifications of firewall is not my cup of tea. I may have to ask more people about the OS95. I don't see the 91FX on tower anymore. Harry

A poem for my departed Spitfire: My instructor once told me midair collisions are rare But two years later, his plane hit my Spit in the air My Spitfire was so sweet, she was my profile picture But now she is gone and my soul cries for her Douglas Bader’s initials were painted on her side But it did not prevent her in midair to collide Rest in peace my sweet Spit, as you fade in thin air For I’ll crash more airplanes to console you up there.

RE: Going to order Great Planes' Escapade this week.
I think one time I had to tighten the bold. Now you tell me, I will check mine again. As for the CG, you can look at the manual in PDF format online. I do not have it with me. Do you know if this engine will fit? I beleive it's the base size of a 60. I only have 2 stroke glow, so I don't know anything about 4 strokes.

RE: Going to order Great Planes' Escapade this week.
I did not do any of these things. The tail assembly takes 2 minutes to install. I did not glue mine and it’s still doing great. About the CG, what engine are you planning to install? With my OS46AX, the only thing I did differently was installing the battery on top of the fuel tank. There’s not much space inside the Escapade anyway to make any major change. With that configuration, it looks tail heavy based on the manufacturer’s manual. You can read the long thread about the Escapade. It’s longer than the hope of a poor man. Everyone complains about the wrong suggested CG. Expect the plane to land a little hot. The Escapade is not a trainer. When landing you will come hot and I only flair at the lasts seconds and in order to avoid bouncing I give a lot of elevator. Also, I have the Goldberg tailwheel and it’s much higher than the one that comes with the plane. Upon landing sometimes the tail will start bouncing and bouncing but I have never had it nose down.

RE: Nitroplanes
90% of Nitroplane items are out of stock. It took me 3 months to find a replacement cowl for my Mustang. It was the first plane I crashed that I was happy to crash the %#$@ plane. It's frustrating to build them because they are not true ARF. Product is bad, service is bad. This is why they half the price of any other manufacturer. You get what you pay for.

RE: Going to order Great Planes' Escapade this week.
I've had one for 2 years. I have 2 suggestions. Do not install the flimsy tail wheel that comes with it. It's really frustrating. Get a good one. Second, not matter what engine you have on it, it will come up tail heavy as per the manual, but it's not. I installed my battery over the fuel tank, and I added weight to the nose. Big mistake. It was nose heavy and anding hot. So I took off the weights one by one, until there were none. And it flies much better. Buying the optional cowl is also a good idea. I put a macs muffler on my 46AX and it's a joy to fly. She just loves to fly. Great choice!

RE: H-9 Jackal 50
Herbs, It's funny that the 2 planes I am considering are the Jackal and the Sundowner, and I see you have the Sundowner as your plane. Do you know if I can install a 75 on the Sundowner? What engine do you have in yours. Between the Jackal and the Sundowner, which is your favorite. I like speed, but sport acrobatic is even more important to me. The Jackal looks so nice, but so is the Sundowner. I have time to think about them. I have both a 55 and a 75 that are looking for a home. Thanks, Harry

I am not a very handy type, so I will order the pre-tuned one for sure. They are quite long and I wonder how I will manage to screw my wing under in my Phoenix Tigershark. I was told I had to attach it to the fuse, but it will be longer and go over the place to install the wing. Thanks for your advice

H-9 Jackal 50
I am considering a Hangar 9 Jackal 50 for an O.S. 75 looking for a home. The H-9 site mentions that it needs a small base 60 size. Does that mean that a 75 won’t fit? I would be interested to know if anyone has one and what engine they use. Thanks,

RE: Why buy a kit just to have it?
This thread is so interesting. There's also another issue of buying things you don't plan to use, and it's money. When I started in this hobby about 2 years ago, I thought only rich people could choose that hobby. Most people at the field were bragging having 20, 50 or even a hundred planes. OMG! I thought I picked up the wrong hobby. One time, someone driving an old beaten pickup truck told me that the kit I bought was cheap and you cannot go cheap on this hobby. Let me repeat, the guy drives a $250 pickup truck and his t-shirts have holes in them. I asked a question last week about an O.S. 75 beeing a little weak for my plane. Most of the answers were to buy a 95 or a 120. I wish those guys were my friends. Maybe they would give me an untouched old kit in a box once in a while.

RE: Tower Kaos ARF
I don't think any plane can beat the GP Big Stick 40 as a second plane. It's very aerobatic, it's easy to fly and forgiven and makes the slowest landings I have seen. And it's very well built. My only concern is that it is a little expensive compared to other planes like the Kaos, and since it's an old design, you still have to spend a lot of time finishing it as building is concerned. But the end result is just fantastic.

RE: Minimum power for a 9# plane
I am going to experiment with different props. I just don't want to push the engine too hard either with a much smaller prop. I have a 55 installed in a Phoenix Tigershark. I was flying it with a 12-7, and it was slow. I tried a 11-6 and the difference was huge. Somebody suggested a 10-7, and I tried it for only 1 flight. The RPM was too much and I was afraid the engine would not last long. I think you can go a little lower than the recommendation, but I am afraid to go too far and damage the engine. So, with the Spitfire, I would like to try a 12. With the 13-7, it takes off really fast and has the torque, but it is a little sluggish. This 4th of July, I will try a few different props and gets back to you guys. Thanks all for all your help.

RE: Minimum power for a 9# plane
John, Are you suggesting the Pitts muffler reduces the power of the engine? I don't mind making a bigger hole under my cowling. By the way, here's a video a guy at the field did for me. It seems to go faster in the video, but it's really kind of sluggish. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87Jm7u8w5pU&list=UUxtJ_GCgl9HAFWhIltsJCXA&index=5&feature=plcp

RE: Minimum power for a 9# plane
I think Greay Beard is right. Most prople ignore the money factor. I do not have a money tree in my backyard to pick up $300 or more for a new engine. My concern is why do manufacturers recommend under-powered engines. I do understand that they want to minimize their claims, but when I go with the high end recommended, I would think I would at least OK. Now, I have to deal with what I have. So, the only thing I can do is to try different props and choose the one that works best for the engine I have. The plane takes off really fast with the 75 running the 13-7 I have, so I think I need a little more speed and a little less torque, so a smaller diameter and more pitch should be the solution like a 12-8. One last question. The engine is probably on its 6th flights after 2 tanks of brake in. Should I expect a little more power when fully broken in? I have a pitts muffler on it. Thanks,

RE: Minimum power for a 9# plane
I don't get it. I am now running a 13-7 prop on my 75. I find the mix very under power with my 9# plane. I do appreciate all the input, but how come some suggest I go up to a 14-7 and some 12-8 Do I need more torque or do I need more speed for that plane? So, should I increase the diameter or decrease it?

Minimum power for a 9# plane
I do not want to restart the overpower controversy, but... I know manufacturers always recommend under-powered engines to minimize their claims. However, I was told picking the high end engine should be OK. Not with my H9 Spitfire 60. Hangar 9 recommends 60 to 75. The plane is about 9# and I have an OS75AX running a 13-7 prop but the plane is still very underpowered. Should I change the prop? I have followed the instruction of brake-in with 2 tanks, and have made about 6 flights with the engine, so I assume it’s fully broken in. Thanks,

Jet22B, Thanks for your input. It's good to know I am not alone. I thought I did something very wrong. About the manual, from what I read, I was supposed to make the decision about the flaps before I glue the 2 halhs of the wings. You mean I can still do it after I glued that wing? Thanks again, Harry

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
What if I wanted to eliminate the flaps all together. I don't need it and I can save some weight of the servo hardware etc. Would you rather cut it out or glue it to the wing? I am afraid taking it off may affect the aerodynamics of the wing. Thanks,
