I am in the process of outfitting my I-400 and was wondering if anyone uses engel's LTR5.3? is this the best pitch and depth control to get? and are there any dealers in the US that carry them or do I have to order direct from Germany?

RE: R/C surcouf submarine
I believe that there is someone making a fiberglass hull for the froggy-sub you're talking about, go to rcnavalcombat and sniff around there. I've got an I-400 in the works (1/96 scale) an will be sending a plug to a builder so that they can make fiberglass hulls for the hobby.

you sure you contacted the 1/96 club in MA? you would have talked to me, I think you talked to the 1/144 scale fast gun boys, they battle in NY from time to time. myself and currently 3 others (4 if you include one of their sons) are out in western MA (easthampton area, near springfield) the ponds we use are local (3 are walking distance from my house

RE: Where to find warship plans?
HoaRC, I would take what JM said with a grain of salt, he seams to rant on from time to time and take things a little too far. It was obvious that the link to the $100.00 warship was a joke. BTW have you decided a format that you want to join? there's 1/96 scale (myself and a few others in western MA along with others spread throughout the US) and there's a fast gun club in MA also. As for a sorce of plans (the whole purpose of this thread, free or otherwise) there are many, floating drydock is a good place to start along with bderc.com. there are some free plans @ rcnavalcombat.com also.

RE: Brushless in combat questions...
if cavitation is a problem try changing the props to a different type but the same diam, ie...2" diam 3 bladed "d" to a 2" diam 5 bladed scimitar (like the ones on subs and carriers) might be a cheeper solution.

RE: Start of a new warship club in MA
we're a 1/96 scale version of big gun style with some minor differences. you can get alot of info off the old BATTLESTATIONS.org site and for more updated info go to the rcnavalcombat.com forums (thats where a few of us hang out). so far there's an Iowa being framed up, a Massachusetts on the way, a liberty ship, an Artemis convoy ship, an I-400 sub about 1/2 way through compleation (I-401 and I-402 hull frames already cut), a Yamato that has undergone sea trials and is awaiting the CO2 system to be compleated. Near future projects (have ship plans in possesion) include Musashi, Shinano, and Shimakaze. If you're interested in checking out this hobby I live in the Easthampton area (near Lower mill pond) and put boats on the water on the weekends, and/or build sessions at my house, you can contact me on this site (I don't check this one often) or for better results join up on the rcnavalcombat.com forum to contact me. how about the setup of the rear dive planes, the forward ones I won't have a problem with, but the rear ones I'm having difficulty with the linkage setup.

I-400 combat sub
I am building an I-400 for scale combat (1/96 scale) and have a few questions regarding ballast systems and electronics. Q#1: for the MBT I'm using CO2 (this is also used to fire deck gun and TT) for the blow gas. When MBT is empty the sub will sit with only its tower and the top of hanger above water. to get the sub neutral or negatively buoyant I want to use a MTT that uses a HP water pump to fill and empty a sealed tank(s). does anyone know where I can find suitable water pumps for this application? and do you need to have a on/off valve when the pump is not running? Q#2: electronics like the ADC and APC, can they be encapsulated (like the Mtronics speed controls) to be made water proof? I know it can be done to receivers but I'm not sure about the sensors used in these sub components. Any help/ideas are welcome.

RE: Ready to Fight Prinz Eugen Build from Keel Up. Keel Laid (Sprayed?!) 3-22-07 watch it grow!
Hi Tim, I got your message on the jet boat, to be honest I haven't made any more progress on it. I've been focusing all my attention and $$ to the 1/96 scale combat (I've made grate progress on the Yamato) also all the ponds are still frozen or the ice is just going out. I don't have anyone in my area that races so there's not a big push to get it finished (It will be done sometime this summer though) Some of the ponds up here also restrict the use of nitro powered boats because of noise and pollution:( What or how should the plugs be made for the 1/96 scale ships? Some are quite large, how should they be sent? And will you make the main decks for them also? Mark

RE: Start of a new warship club in MA
We are just starting out, building the first boats this winter while the ponds are stil frozen. As for a site there are several ponds in Easthampton, one of which I live right next to (lower mill pond) There is also a group of non-combat modelers out in eastern Mass (by the way, this is a 1/96 scale club, the boats are considerably larger than the 1/144 variants) who I might be able to pesuade to become combatants that said they want to come and sail with us this summer. I'm working with a few others to get a web site put together for our club, if you are serious about getting involved you can e-mail me @ mswihart78@msn.com always looking for more members P.S. If you want you can take a look at the Yamato I'm building at this lynk

RE: Start of a new warship club in MA
Eric, its good to hear from people in the area. I took a look at your site, and I must say you guys have some nice looking ships. Since you already build in 1/96 scale it should be easy to convert over to warship combat. The boats aren't too difficult to build and if you can't find a part that you want, you can build it. I first started out with rc nitro powered race boats but when I discovered rc combat, it was all over. Currently I'm scatch building the Yamato as she was in 1944. Already have the frame together and starting on sanding it before I plank the hull, another one of the members is building an Iowa and is waiting on the pattern set and plans to arrive. The other four are still desiding on what types of ships they want to build, most likely a cruiser and 3 destroyers. I might start building a sub and a transport to mix it up a little. It would be good to have some more people involved in 1/96 scale combat in the same state, so let me know you think. Mark

RE: Any jet drive gas boats?
Hows it going Tim, In case all of you were wondering who this is, its the owner of that 43" flat-v jet boat. It is almost finished, need to mount 3 more servos, add some floation and paint it. by the way the powerplant pushing the boat is a K+B .91 (I'm using this motor with one of my other boats, a 1/8 scale hydro) so as soon as its finnished and time permitting I'll try to post some pictures. just expanded my current hobby to include a 1/96 scale combat club that some friends and I are starting in western MA Mark

ship control
there is a debate over which would be better, computer control (using a wi-fi card and some other components like servo controlers and such found at robotic sites, or a fully loaded radio system. being one of the only guys in the group not to have a laptop and not so computer savy (i can't write code like most of these guys), i'm looking into a robbe f-14 loaded with all the bells and whistles, including a mcd switch-16 for cannon firing (trust me i'm going to need all those buttons for the 13 turret on the ship) just wondering what others have to say on this Mark P.S. these ships being constructed are heavily armed and camera systems along with other sensor like devices are encouraged.

RE: Start of a new warship club in MA
Wreno, thanks for the heads up about the gun law issue that might arise, but that happened to be one of the first things i looked into and there is no problem with it. the only stipulation is that if anyone under 18 wants to be involved they need a parent with them (or an adult). as far as getting listed on RCNAVALCOMBAT.COM, i'll look into it, but i don't think we'll use it as a host. several members are computer programmers, web site designers and such and are insistant on doing our own site. something i noticed is that there isn't a lot of 1/96 scale clubs out there, why is that? it would seem to me to be more practical, allowing a greater variety of ships to be used. for instance in 1/144 destroyers, subs and other small boats are an engineering feet to make viable and on the other end of the spectrum you have 1/72 scale which practicaly eliminates capital ships like heavy cruisers, battleships and aircraft carriers, due to their size. just a thought.
