RE: STRETCHING A HULL...IS IT POSSIBLE ??? Old Graupner Systems Cat build
Hes also used csm with epoxy dont do that epoxy doesnt work well with mat as it wont break down the binder in the mat,use cloths with epoxy. Mart

RE: big electric boats
Nothing wrong with castle motors but theyre expensive,so i supose its down to what you want to spend but people are getting good results with much cheaper motors.Like ive said before Pate built one of my 58 apaches using cheap hi model outrunners costing $50 each on just 6s and was running,is running 50+ mph.I think two leopard 5692 or the similar 5694 inrunners would push a big boat even better 65+ easy even on 6-8 s. Im no expert on electric setups but this is the setup im planning on using in a 9lb carbon apache or arrow hull and im sure ill get the speed im looking for. Mart

RE: fiber glass boat repair
Hi sounds like you just have cracks in the gelcoat only, this is easy to repair, simply open the cracks carefully with a dremel to widen them a touch carefull not to go any deeper then take some gelcoat and mix this up and apply into the cracks let set for24 hrs and wet sand smooth then your ready for paint. If you dont have gelcoat then use some car body filler wont take much for simple cracks so wont add much weight but clean out the cracks first using some acetone or some womens nail varnish remover [;)].Not sure if the Gensis is poly or epoxy resin so be sure if its epoxy you use epoxy resin or gelcoat for the repair, you can thicken epoxy up using dif materials one been talc for simple cosmetic repairs like this. RE: Stern reinforcing
Sure you can its all i ever use,mix it with some milled fibres or preferably chopped strands of glass, spread it on and sandwich the wood to the transom and clamp, then sit boat on its transome so everything stays where it should.Ive yet to have any problems with a polyester boat,if done right theyre plenty strong ask my customers lol.Or you could also use a mix of glass cloth coremat and some carbon cloth, heres one i did earlier just using biaxial cloth coremat and uni direction carbon no wood needed, transom was then 1/4" thick and strong as hell. You wont be able to use fibreglass as poly resin will eat the plastic, you will need to use epoxy resin m8.I like your determination and wish you luck. Your idea to build from scratch might be your best option, maybe you could modify one of the plans you have ?. Mart

RE: STRETCHING A HULL...IS IT POSSIBLE ??? Old Graupner Systems Cat build
I think as its a one off build your best bet is cover it outside with glass, yes heat may or may not be an issue cant help you there to be honest as ive never worked with abs.I supose it depends how thin it is. I still think your best bet is buying a bigger hull to work with, you can pick up bargains if you search long enough. Mart

RE: STRETCHING A HULL...IS IT POSSIBLE ??? Old Graupner Systems Cat build
Hi ok so you want to lengthen the boat and fibrglass the outside ?,easy enough balsa on the inside to lengthen and join the two parts together then you could use abs to fill the gap, then a little filler ,next you need to decide wether your leaving in the abs or removing after. If leaving simply scuff up the outer then use slow epoxy and some thin cloth lay alayer let it fully set, once this sets you can build up the layers using some thicker cloth say 200g cloth maybe 2-3 layers one at a time, use an old credit card to remove exess resin between layers.Reason im saying do it in seperate layers is to keep the heat down during curing so as not to melt the abs.I cannt say it wont melt the abs as ive never tried it,it is a possibility. If alls good when your done you will have some serrious wet sanding to do to get the running surface nice and smooth, another reason to use the credit card to get rid of exess resin before hand. You will also need to seal the balsa inside when done with epoxy resin. RE: STRETCHING A HULL...IS IT POSSIBLE ??? Old Graupner Systems Cat build
The balsa will be stiffer than abs so the idea was to keep things rigid for you to take a moulding from the orriginal. In all honesty id forget the whole idea and buy a 1 mtr hull in fibreglass and modify the top to look how you want. Vaccum box is easy heres one and how to build it,however finding an oven large enough to get a 1 mtr piece of plastic in is the problem lol. Mart http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5CGfoxnKaQ

RE: STRETCHING A HULL...IS IT POSSIBLE ??? Old Graupner Systems Cat build
How about stretching it using balsa and some abs sheet, tidy it up then use the inside as a female mould to make a bigger one using epoxy and cloth. For a one off replica it might work. If you had accesss to a large enough oven you could also use the outside to then make one in abs ,youd just need to make yourself a vaccum box and connect a vacuum to suck it down over the orriginal one.

RE: Hunter 69
Were talking about large offshore boats here not small boats running on mill ponds, when i said 60 i was talking about a 58" Apache.Im not arguing the Lehner motors may be better ive never seen one not that i would ever buy one.If i can get my 60 mph and run a reliable setup and pay a fraction of the cost then i will do it and be happy im getting as good a speed as the guys running boats costing thousands more. Oh and while i said 60 mph im sure with the 5694 motors i have here i could quite easily get above 70 if i wanted but then i would need to use HV escs,s and i dont want to do that as im not wanting to go that fast.Im more than happy to run mid 50s in a large boat as im sure Mario would be. Mart ps it allways makes me smile when people tell us it wont work and it wont be as fast blah blah, makes it all the sweeter when people prove them wrong. Many didnt think it was possible to get the Apache to anywhere near 50 mph with twin t 600 motors on 6 s,think that one was blown out of the water, best bit was he only used cheap turnigy ooops hobby king err supo escs who cares who made what so long as they work, shes still going strong a year later lol.

RE: Hunter 69
All i can say is the T 600 motors are awesome performers and they may not be lehners or even scorpion motors, def not price wise thats for sure [:)] but they perform awesome so for the price theyre tough to beat and most def not poor quallity. Some companys will build a motor for anyone to there own specs and you can then call them what you want theres nothing wrong with that,i could name names but i wont on here. People can spend 1000s on expensive motors if they wish but the fact is you can get results with cheaper ones so turn your nose up all you like i couldnt care less,a 60 mph boat is a 60 mph boat no matter what the price tag [;)]. Mart ps dont think i ever mentioned lehner motors in any of my previous posts.

No problem m8,thing is the Genesis is such a small boat and all the extra expense isnt needed so i was trying to save you some $$,but if you plan on reusing the gear later on something bigger and better then no probs. Mart

RE: Hunter 69
Dont like the idea of all those wire configurations i like to keep things simple like me lol.Turnigy make good motors though, twin t 600 outrunners push my 58 apaches to 50 mph on just 6 s.Will do my 5694 twin build over the winter and see how she runs on 6 s i think 55+ is not too much to expect. RE: Genesis Offshore Brushless RC Twin Hull (1045mm) from HK
The new version 3 T180 escs with the extra caps are plenty good for upto 6 s and im not so sure you need to run a seperate bec,the older ones had issues but the new models work fine from what ive seen and a friends running them on 6s with no problem, ive seen a few guys running them with the built in bec,ill be using two in a large Apache build soon on 6 s.As for the hv 200 +swordfish why use that on 6 s its not needed, fine if you plan on 10 s.As for the 4082 or 4092 id say these are not really needed for a small boat like the genesis, stick to 4074 and small props, just my opinion. RE: Stuff tube help please!
You need to cut the bigger tube so you have enough of the smaller one sticking out at the motor end and fix it in place with a t bar so it cant move job done.Or just buy a new teflon liner even easier haha. Mart

RE: Hunter 69
One thing you need to remember with Electric is you need to be able to seal that hatch so its completeley water tight.I think Brushless and lipos is def the way to go,5692 motors might work, voltage is upto you, personally im going with twin 5694 1000 kv motors in my 58 Apache on 6 s moving upto 8s later problem with going upto 10 s is you then need to spend big $ on hv escs.If you choose hig voltage then go with lower kv and larger props.Thats a massive boat youve chosen to go electric on though. RE: Bearings instead of brass tube for flex shaft
Most stingers, struts ive used have lead teflon bearings,no need for anything in the actual tube,if you want a quieter running boat use a teflon liner. For easier lubrication dont use grease use oil,you can set up an oiler using a small nitro tank and running the oil from this either directly through the tube via a small nipple or use one of the t bars that have one built in,some use chainsaw oil others i have seen use vegetable oils as its echo friendly lol. Mart Heres a friends setup in one of my Apache hulls, this ones a gas inline twin through a gearbox to twin cr outdrives.

RE: How would YOU do 8s?
Personally in a big boat id go with four 4s packs, two 4s per motor.I supose it depends on what you call large?.One of my friends runs my 58 Apache on 6 s per motor (himodel pro 910 kv) and hes in the 50s for about 7 mins runtime on 4000 mah 30 c packs,i would prefer 40 c +,hes yet to go to 2 packs per motor but i think that would make it even faster and longer runtimes.Hes def not pushed his setup yet either, the motors are more than capable of 9s might need to upgrade the escs though as hes only using the cheap hobbyking 200 amp ones but so far so good on 6s,his lipos are the wekest link so to speak as they do puff up quite a bit but i think going to 40 c or more would solve that.Hes been running this setup for over a year now. My next project for myself will be an Apache twin with 5694 1000kv inrunners on 6s two packs per motor, moving upto 8-10 s later maybe. But i think on 6 s 2pack ill be touching mid to high 50s maybe even 60.Hull will be full carbon vaccum formed in epoxy once we get them into production, should be nice and light. RE: RE:
The hifei pro swordfish is an awesome esc and should work fine with what your planning in my opinion.I have some inrunners from my supplier that are similar specs to the leopards but ive yet to test them, have some big 5694 1000 kv versions here waiting to go into an Apache,i plan on using t180 esc,s on 6 s first then move upto 8 i have some swordfish pros here too but dont plan on going upto 10 s just yet so no point using them.Pate found the twin t600 on just 6 s he was over 50 mph so the 1000kv motors on 8s should see 60+ i would think pretty easy.

RE: New F1 project building plug and moulds
Looks good Daz ,you know my views on building light boats wether carbon ,epoxy or not.Light is not allways the best way, light means flighty, build em good and strong and dont worry about the weight so much.In my experience a heavy boat allways outperforms a light one every time. While using carbon in a hand layup wont save a lot of weight you can still save quite a bit as you can use lighter cloth than if you were just using glass alone, that said a mix of the two is much prefered with glass outside carbon inside done wet on wet,the glass has superior impact resistance the carbon adds the stiffness. Mart ps vinylester is great stuff, leave the epoxy for those that dont value there health too much
