RE: Re: gear drawings
I just received my copies of the plans after about a week and a half after talking with Doss on the phone. He is a good guy and his plans look great!!! Lots of detail and 9 pages of instructions. I can't wait to start building it.

yes, I have decided to start on putting together a 3d cad drawing based off of pictures, etc. This will probably be the best bet.

RE: cutting out templates
Do copy machines make exact copies? I thought that was always a problem with that method.

RE: cutting out templates
rovieairto, Your method sounds like a very good idea. I have been wanting to do something like that so I could build the aircraft again or make repairs very easily. I have also heard of people using soft aluminum sheets for their templates too.

RE: cutting out templates
I too do not know what to do about the thick lines when cutting out parts. Should you follow the inner of the line or the outter? I have usually just followed the outter of the line then I guess sanded when needed.

cutting out templates
When building from plans, what is the best way to cut the wood so it matches the plans? I have heard many different methods, such as copying the plans then cutting them out to tracing with carbon paper. What methods do you use?

RE: hobby room
How well do the air filters that you can buy in the stores good for collecting and filtering out all the sawdust?

hobby room
This is a little off topic. But I just moved into a new place, and have a room that will be dedicated to hobbies. I need to get a workbench in there so I can work on my airplanes. I will be putting together a 1/4 scale p-51 from scratch. What are some of your work areas that you use to put together your airplanes? What are things that you think there should in a hobby room? Did you build your workbench from scratch or buy it?

RE: Re: gear drawings
ORIGINAL: SCALECRAFT Hi All The Boeing Company who owns all the North American designs now, has the original drawings available to the general public. For a small charge now. I ordered the drawings for the F/A 18 Super Hornet. After 6 months I received a 1" thick envelope with the fuse loftings, cockpit detail, landing gear detail. Even the smallest specific detail was on these sheets. Way more info that a modeler would need. Now, this was all before 9/11 attacks, so I'm not sure if thier so generous these days. I'll let you guys know though, I've requested the P-51D drawings and the AT6. This was around 10 months ago. still waiting. Steve
Steve, Where can you get the forms to order these plans? Can you order them online? Thanks Matt

1/4 scale p-51 plans
Hello, I'm looking around for some 1/4 scale p-51 d plans. I know you can scale them up but I would rather just get some large plans. I have seen Nosen and Ziroli plans, but are there any other plans out? What would be the best plans to get? Thanks, Matt

Building Giant Scale Techniques
Hello, I am about to build my first giant scale airplane from scratch. I am using enlarged plans of a p-38 (wing span 132" ) . I would like to know of any techniques used to build. Like which is better to use, regular wood glue or the quick drying glue? When do you need to put extra supports and braces in? Etc. Any help from your experience would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Matt
