The other day on a run it was acting funny, then all the sudden it wouldn't stay on and it had fuel etc., very rough running. As it turns out the connecting rod had broken off under the piston and beat the crap out of the understand of the piston. I did not overheat the engine. I didn't over rev the engine, rarely ever hitting the second gear as I don't have the space. Do you think this was a manufacturing defect? How much of a difficult time do you think Traxxas is going to give me? or what will they replace? Mind you I haven't even run a full gallon through the damn thing.

RE: Official Traxxas Jato 3.3 Thread
This is my Jato 3.3 It has 2 gallons through it now since January. I have really enjoyed modding it and buying parts for it and just all round bashing. I am in Maryland if anyone else is in the area. I have made some changes and thought I would post again because I love looking at all the Jato's.

RE: Do you think this will be effective? Roll bar protection
I do, but sometimes it rolls over and the round part of the rollbar gets scratched up. I'm anal and I hate scratches. I am looking at these pictures and nit picking the tiny bit of dirt or scratches on it now and it irritates me. I'm messed in the head, you will come to realize that.
ORIGINAL: Ttowntoolman Pretty neat, but why dont you just run it with a body on it so it dont get scratched? Just curious.....
Do you think this will be effective? Roll bar protection
I know that a roll bar is there to protect the vitals of the vehicle and that I shouldn't so much care if it gets all scratched up because it would be doing its job, protecting the car, BUT I DO. I hate when it gets scratched. So I took it off, sanded and repainted it again, with some clear coat. Then I thought, " what would work to protect this in case of roll over from scratches?" I decided to try slitting some clear fishtank airline tubing and wrapping it over the metal. It fits but how long it stays I don't know. I figure at least it may hold the first time it flipped and hit the ground, giving me a chance to replace it. How about I just buy another car and let this one sit for looks. I just cant do it. Anyway, what do you think?

RE: Jato 3.3 Roll Cage
Did you get your rollbar yet? Check out some finishing parts I'm putting on my Jato. Don't like the fastners they use so I'm replacing with all stainless steel cap head, easier to work with, and the finishing cups and washers look nice. Check it out.

RE: Jato throttle servo died? weird
Take a picture of what you tightened and I would be able to help more. If you tightened the little silver nut that holds the brake lever in place I don't see how that could have killed a servo. I also don't see how tightening the silver nut on top of the spring on the spur gear would kill your servo, maybe kill the slipper clutch or gearing in general if you over tighten it but not the servo. Pictures please of what you turned.
ORIGINAL: Radiner Haha, woops, instead of popping off the little rubber thing and adjusting the grub screw inside the tranny, I tighten the little silver nut above it instead. But How does tightening that nut kill a servo?
That is weird. The little set screw inside the gearing is what you adjusted correct? I don't see how that could affect your throttle servo. What else did you do?

RE: Do you own a Jato 2.5 or 3.3??
I bet a little tightening of the steering servo saver would clean up a lot of that slop. Check the overall tightness of the entire set and also how tight the nut is on the spring which controls the force needed to activate the saver. How did you kill the bell crank bearing? Behind the clutch shoes? Thats a new one for me to hear. I wish I could run today but I am going out of town for work for a day or two. I hate how you have to work to live and enjoy, it should be the other way around, work is the sideline, fun is the mainline. I don't have a battery pack, I just use the AA's in the rear box which makes it wheelie occasionally. They tend to run down quickly, even with the power off so I do like to disconnect the main line in the middle when not in use.
ORIGINAL: drugOFspeed thanks guys. yea im a fan of VWs so when i saw the baja, i had to get it. the only problem was that the body set high on the frame so once the front and back windows were cut out, the airflow went right over the engine head. the car began overheating. so i had to attach pieces of lexan inside behind the front window to force air down. but its good. i also found out that the reason the car was not popping wheelies was because i had a blown bearing in the engine's bellcrank. that caused lack of power and overheating. but i agree, wheelies get old. im ready to move the battery to the mid compartment and lower the a arms. *PROBLEM* that im having is the jato doesnt always drive straight. i have a lot of 'play' in the steering. while the car is powered off, i can wiggle the front tires left to right without even moving the servo. do i need to tighten the servo saver? oh and also, does anyone else experience their batteries being drained if the car sits for a day or two powered off? im leaning towards disconnecting the battery whenever jato is not in use. RE: Newbie needs help
Hey Noob, I too was a noob years ago, then I was a born again noob this year. I got my first Kyosho and Futaba radio when I was 12 back in 1980's I loved that thing for what it was back then. Had a very fast engine in it that would burn my battery pack in 4 minutes lol. It was a Kyosho Javelin, 4wd, originally chain driven, converted to belt. I always wanted nitro when I was younger so I said when my son is old enough to enjoy them I will get he and I a car. I ended up with the Jato from Traxxas for us both. He is 9, and much better at driving, I am way too hard on the throttle and end up with multiple fractures often unfortunately. He has actually cried for me before when I destroyed mine into a fence. It was reborn a short time later. I don't know much about the model you have but it sounds like a fun product. I know I hear about hpi often. WELCOME

RE: Do you own a Jato 2.5 or 3.3??
Hey Drug, That is looking interesting. You definitely have a mix of colors there. To answer your question, yes, the aluminum parts do add weight and it does cause a lack of wheelies. I don't think that is such a bad thing, the wheelies cause you to lose control quite a bit and is usually the culprit of a flip over. I don't wheelie often at all and I still have the rear battery box. I did stiffen up the rear shocks with harder springs and stiffer oil but I am also using the piggyback shocks from Integy.
ORIGINAL: drugOFspeed well ive had the car over a month and ive done a few upgrades; including racing clutch, battery pack, aluminum a arms, c hubs, turnbuckles and shock towers. im finding it a bit hard to hit wheelies. you guys out there with aluminum upgrades, can you still pop wheelies? if so, are running it stiff in the back, soft in front? one thing i know that preventing wheelies in the battery pack. it has a shorter cable than the stock pack with AA's so i could only run it in the middle compartment. so i know its lacking that weight in the rear. thats one thing. and i guess i should weighed the pieces before i installed them but does anyone know if the aluminum parts are heavier or lighter than stock plastic? RE: We need RC Consumers website.
I think it would be a mess. True, it would be nice to get an unbiased opinion of manufacturers models without their own spin and hype but you would end up with someone who would take free cars from the manufacturers who want that good review. Then the bias starts. Its just like our political system or any other organization that is eventually affected by greed and other human attributes.
ORIGINAL: proanti1 Something kinda like Consumer Reports. A 3rd party website specifically targeted to the public rating of models. I can imagine it would get pretty messed up pretty quick though. "engine blew up because i didn't break it in property, 1/5 stars until this gets fixed" a la Android marketplace.
RE: Do your neighbors know you are in
Its so funny that this thread came out. I hadn't had any issues except for the one neighbor until yesterday. Old lady down the street came out at 6pm to yell at me, said cant I run elsewhere and to stop running past her home. I told her that isn't it better for me to be doing this now than at 10pm at night? And also, they aren't illegal to run and no cop is going to shut me down. So basically I told her to sit and spin. I cant stand uptight grouchy neighbors.

RE: I'm new and looking for a new r/c buggy
I have an odd question from an adult with a kid who is getting into RC cars at an early age. My son is 9 and I got him a Jato for Christmas and got myself one also. I have had electric before but no nitro. We love them, but he is always wanting this or that for it and I usually get it. I was just wondering what other parents do with regard to buying parts or making them work for it, or from you kids out there, (no disrespect using the word kid) What do you kids expect your parents to buy for you? or not buy? or give you? or make you pay for? When is enough enough?

RE: Do your neighbors know you are in
My son and I run our Jato's in the neighborhood and no one usually complains. My next door neighbor comes out to watch and smoke a cig. Other neighbors will give me dirty looks because of the noise and smell. I don't care. One afternoon on the weekend the guy two doors down came out and yelled at me. Said he had heard me the day before for 3 hours, huge exageration, more like an hour. I just moved to the side street and ignored him. I am not breaking any laws unless I do it during the night which I don't. He is just a grumpy guy on oxygen. He should come run one and I could get him a little close to the glow igniter and POOF! just kidding.

RE: RPM A Arms, Jato, Sway Bar?
I have the Aluminum arms all the way around which do have the connections for the sway bars but the RPM bumper I got doesnt have the holes for the hold downs in the front, so I ziptied the sway bar to the new bumper, and it worked great. I wouldn't run this bad boy at high speeds without my sway bars. I think they make a huge difference. And I totally bumped this thing up a few years.

I am in the UK so do you have any idea where i could get it online without the US to UK postage rates because i have looked for it and most websites wont let that item be shipped to my address (UK) and the ones that will are like £20 for the shipping alone! Thats the one I got. It works just fine and isn't over done like so many of these I see with complicated network of bars and replacing the ez start holder. It does its job, protects the engine and components on roll over. You could probably find it cheaper on one of the car sites like amain or hobby etc.

Why do you all keep saying the aluminum parts are junk. They may not add value but why would you consider them to be junk? I like my integy arms and shocks and shock towers. They work just fine and they look nice.
ORIGINAL: The_Shark yeah, some people are real numbskulls, a good used RTR r/c is worth HALF of the new price regardless of upgrades, less if something is broken/missing. i also agree that i avoid most models with aluminum junk on them, i will have to replace with plastic and the used aluminum parts have almost 0 value. there is no stopping them, they will just keep lowering and lowering the price untill they either sell it realistically or keep them.
