Finally, good for you Zippi! While it was an ordeal, I have to give Horizon credit for sticking with you and making good on #6. AW is not doing right by us with the Bravata color mismatch and wing warp issues. Looking forward to now reading of your assembly and flying reports! Jon

RE: What is happening to this forum?
I'm glad to see others have also noticed that traffic on this forum is slowing down, but I think it is slower in general throughout the RC glow and gas plane categories that I like to read. Could be the prices of planes and engines are just getting to be too much? I did not include radios in that sentence because I think the basic 4 to 7 channel systems have held their prices remarkably steady for decades. I've really slowed down my purchases as the price of ARFs has risen steadily. I have four more to build anyway, so I can stand on the sidelines a bit until something comes along that I gotta have. IF I get the same aileron trim results, I might consider what you suggest. Sorta like fixing a broken leg that set crooked by rebreaking it and resetting it correctly. Easier said than done, but also might be most successful. Jon

RE: AW Ultimate 20-300
Mine is at 18 pounds plus 4 oz. It was right at 18 pounds when first flown, and now has an additional 4 oz of lead in the nose for a better CG. I know I am close to the CG in the manual, but can't be sure anymore since I have not finger balanced it with help in a while. When I say better CG, that is just my taste in balancing...I like the plane to fly inverted with a slight down pressure on the stick to stay level. I don't like it to climb in this attitude or the 45 degree upline inverted test either. Jon

RE: *New Bravata 30cc Gasser*
I think it's kinda unfair to judge and crucify about the wing warp and strength until you fly yours. That is why I am shutting up about flyability, the aileron trim, and wing failure until I get mine airborne for MYSELF. It's true the wings (one or the other or both) have a warp...but how bad is it. I won't know for myself until I fly my own Bravata. It's definitely true the painted red parts are way darker than the red covering...that anyone can see, and AW should rectify that. I can get past that if my plane flies well WITHOUT ugly aileron trim visible to anyone, and without adding big wing trim tabs like others are doing. I might have to do it myself, but won't know till I fly the durn plane. Still beautiful, but AW quality control missed these important points in many of our Bravata's per this thread. Jon

Thanks for the warning. I am still assembling mine slower than a turtle. I did note that the wing tube looks sort of short and thin for the wingspan, but figured AW "should" know what they are doing. I will try not to stress mine out, but I do like aerobatics. I was thinking the Bravata should be fun for slow aerobatics, lots of low flybys, and flapulous landings! Jon

RE: Starting out in RC again
You did fine getting the Futaba 7C and 617 receivers. I have two of the xmitters and a dozen such receivers in my little air force. They will take you far and knock on wood I have never had a glitch using them the last 5 or so years. Re engine, I have a Giles 202 that is 72" WS, just a little larger than your Dalotel, and it flies real good with an OS 160FX. I think that is more equivalent to a 30cc. My plane is 12#. If your Dalotel is around that weight, just keep an open mind towards a little more than 20cc. It might do fine, but like most, I rather err on the side of too much power than too little. Just another 2 cents. Jon

RE: Any tips on finding a lost plane?
Do you know someone with a plane or 4-6 rotor chopper thingy that can carry a camera? My cousin and I once searched for a downed slope glider with an instamatic camera in his bigger glider. That was a chore to take off, fly over an area, snap a pic, land, wind the camera one frame forward, and do it repetitively. As crazy as it sounds, we got a pic with the plane in it, and enough landmarks such as the nearby road, that we were able to get oriented correctly and retrieve the plane days later. Good luck...you will find it. Jon

RE: *Cirrus SR22T 30cc ARF by Hangar 9*
Zippi, I have followed many of your comments on various planes over the years, starting way back when we were doing the CMP Giles 202 around the same time. I trust your observations, opinions, and comments. My son has been watching this thread because he wanted to get this ARF. We thought it was a done deal for him to pull the trigger and order one, then your problems with the fuselages arose. We waited the week out for your report on the 3rd fuse, and it was a bust, literally. He is now NOT ordering one and will wait to see of H9 resolves their issues before he reconsiders. I was not a great believer in H9 about 8 years ago, and then to me their quality started to increase exponentially, and they came out with many fine planes. I have their Toledo Special and RV-8, both fine quality. Now this happens with the new Cirrus. Concurrently, I am one of those guys who got the AW Bravata only to then learn of the wing warp issue. Yup, what is going on with these two top quality ARF brands, now having issues with at least these specific planes which we paid big bucks for. Well, I hope your 4th fuse is a winner. The plane LOOKS so good in the photos and vids, and I hope you get to experience what you envisioned with this plane. Jon

Have you tried more toe-in? I had a Shoestring that was just crazy on the ground till I got enough toe-in, but I remember I also changed prop brands too around the same time. Went from APC to a MAS. Either or both of those changes cured the ground handling craziness. Good luck. Jon

RE: *New Bravata 30cc Gasser*
Keep up the good work and reports, Planejaw. I am reading with interest while I continue to slowly make progress on my red/cream Bravata. I have the wing servos all in now, as well as those for tail feathers. All those linkages are assembled too. The instructions are wrong for the recommended servo arm lengths in the wing...1 1/4". That will NOT fit inside the hooded servo hatches. Max seems to be about 1" so that is what I have installed on the ailerons to get max throws. Throws end up around 2" max before limits are hit due to the pre-installed hinges. At least on MY plane, there is no way to get 2.5" on high rates like the instruction CD says. For the flaps, 3/4" arms gave me sufficient throw, so I went to that size and also moved the linkage to the outside hole on the flap control horns. Viewed from the front and rear, I am not seeing the wing warp come back after I twisted out what I could with the heat gun months ago. I am hoping mine won't have the left roll or that it will be minimal. Won't know till I complete and fly it. Next up is engine installation. While I am thinking of adding more right thrust, I don't hold hope for that since the issue is left roll, not left yaw. So I am leaning towards leaving engine thrust alone. Jon

RE: OS 70 FS Ultimate engine
I had one and hated it, but I think a later version came out that might have been improved. Mine did though have the blue top. Could never get it to run consistently after months of trying. Also had the cheap FL version of the 70 FS and it was about as bad. Then moved to the Surpass II (black tops) and have loved those. Reliable and powerful enough and long lasting. I have had 3 of them plus one more in the box, and all have been purchased used but in excellent condition. Jon

RE: Five Year Wear Out
Congrats on wearing planes out like that! It's a GOOD thing! I like doing that to every plane if possible. One thing I try to do is keep close watch on the linkages and servos. I have a 20 year old Ultimate that I replaced servos on a few years back just for the sake of doing it. Nothing was failing, but I love the old plane and want to keep it flying. I've had wheel hubs break like yours did, just flying off grass. Sometimes the hinges break and I replace all in that surface during the repair. Tail wheels seem to fatigue out after years too, so they get replaced when they break. Of course batteries get replaced...that reminds me I should replace mine before something bad happens! Jon

Gee I don't mind the Funstar. Mine is equipped with an OS 52 Four Stroke and AUW was 4 pounds when new, a few years ago. Flies great. I can hover it decently. I am not a 3Der though, but I try with it. Does sport pattern pretty well in a tight window. Great fun fly plane, my go to one. Also loads of fun in high winds to fly with no ground speed, float, land on a dime, loop in a few wingspans. I kinda love mine. Here is a pic, aka the SNAFU with the same letters that came in the ARF. Jon

RE: Carl Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 Brotherhood.
Over the last few years, I changed all of my 4.8V Nicad battery packs to 6V NimH packs with 2000mAh or more. I like having more torque and more speed at nominal weight gain. My Ultimate has the 6V pack too. Most of my battery packs have come from an online battery store, and their prices make it easy to switch. In fact, I probably have to start renewing some of the oldest 6V packs as preventative maintenance. Jon Oh, here are 2 fresh pics from a couple weeks ago. RE: Introducing the new 50cc Ultimate 20-300
Didja maiden yours yet? It's been 6 mos since the last post here. I just took my Ultimate out and really am liking it more each time. Been getting lower and lower, no not 3D, but typical sport pattern and IMACkish flying. Had 3 good flights on Tues, and one on Sun before the wind got too strong for my liking. I think I like my CG where I have it now, with 6 oz of lead on the engine box. It takes a smidge of down elev pressure to hold inverted, and it doesn't readily nose over on the grass. As I do it more, assembly and disassembly is getting shorter and less of a chore. And gads it's just a pretty plane sitting on the field!

RE: What's the proper method of a barrel roll?
The title of the thread is about doing a barrel roll, which is different from an axial roll. Maybe the OP really wants to do axial rolls? A barrel roll looks like the plane is rolling as it follows the shape of a long barrel or pipe. Axial rolls look like a plane rolling on a string. Just curious which one the OP is after.

RE: Decisions..... Input please
At your price point, it's pretty tough to get everything you need since you are starting at just about ground zero if you need the basic flight box equipment too. I suggest finding used stuff from someone in your club, or maybe craigslist. There is almost always a guy in a club that turns over his stuff regularly, buying new and used, trading, etc. I think you can make your budget with a little bit of luck and patience. Good luck and have fun.

RE: Kwik Fli
Post some pics of both! I do like the Sun Fli 4 in 20 size. That was one of my faves till I lost it due to dumbness. I used to use the same transmitter on it as another plane, and forgot to reverse the servo direction in the xmitter panel (old school with the tiny switches). Yes, I tried the ailerons and they moved, but not in the correct direction. Sure I realized it as soon as I took off and ended up in a tall walnut tree, haha. Dang, it was a great flier, and very lightly built. Used an OS25FP on it. It was so aerobatic, I learned and practiced many 4 point and slow rolls on it. Let's see some pics of your planes! Thanks for sharing. Jon
