RE: Raptor Helis pIctUrEs
Hi Philng, The canopy was custom painted by Bill Ludwig of Arizon Heli. You let him know what you want and he'll do it. His service is second to none, and when I emailed him, I had a reply within 2 minutes !!!!![X(] He does have some 'off the shelf' canopies but most are painted on request, with whatever decals you want on it. You will find Arizona Heli [link=http://www.arizonaheli.com/]HERE[/link]. Because each canopy is custom painted, you do have to wait for it to be done, but it is worth the wait !! The pictures just don't do the canopy justice. [:o] maz

RE: How do YOU do it?
I spool up in normal mode and let it sit and warm up a little. I always lift off in 'idle-up' though. My throttle gov takes over at 30% throttle, so there's no point in me flying in normal mode as all that would be different is my lower pitch range. Also, by doing it this way I'm never going to forget to go 'idle-up' as a friend once did with his Raptor 90. It did seem to hang inverted for an awful long time before it began it's decent to mother earth - by which time it was too late. [8|] OOPS, just didn't cover it that day. [:o] maz

RE: Good replacement/upgrade canopy
Hiya, Yes the XL canopies fit no problem. Why not be a little different to everyone else at your flying field. Have you seen these before ??. I was going to get one for my next canopy. It's meant to have loads of room for servo's etc - something I was having a few problems with for a while. They look really cool painted up too. [:D] maz

RE: RC sim?
Hiya, It's called "My Sacrifice" by a band called Creed. The first movie is "Remedy" by Seether. You won't be dissapointed with Reflex. It is very good. The other front runner on the block is Phoenix, which too is meant to be really good. The physics are meant to be the best on the market at the moment and the price is less than XTR. I've not used it so can only say what I have heard. (although I've seen some little video clips on the net). If you go for one of the top 3, your money will have been well spent.[:D] maz

I'm pretty much the same as hdoc. Bit of velcro and a rubber band. RE: Show off your heli!
Thanks for the comments guy's. My canopy is actually home made. I made a post how I did it a while back. I have just cut and pasted the post below. As you can see my heli has changed a little since I made the post but you shuld get the idea.[:D]
My god I had to dig deep to re-find this thread. Right, this mod should have taken three days. One and a half moths later....... (ok, so I have fitted a kitchen and a bathroom too in that time, plus work etc, anyway) - here's my latest mod. As jaq said, I suffered from a little rubbing  (after fitting the fibreglass XL to an HDE frame). Some have cut holes in their canopy to stop this but I wanted it to look 'clean' so came up with this. The first step was to find something to cover the hole made to clear the rubbing. I used a couple of servo mounts from an RC plank. The next step was to make up a template so I could transfer the exact shape required to my canopy. I then glued them in place and blended them in so the looked like they were meant to be there. Last but not least came the paint. In my last house I had a heated workshop. No such luck in my new house. I have been waiting for the weather to change so I could start painting. It just didn't happen. :( So off to the shops - back with a big heater. I now have a heated workshop. :D Many people have said they liked my old orange canopy. It was the best colour for orientation, I should know I have tried most combinations. - so orange it is again. The paint is still very soft, so I have been unable to do anything with it yet. Grommets and graphics still to do. Anyway, the last two pictures are how it sits on its shelf now. A couple of days and it should be hard enough for me to finish it off, but thats what I said in January.    [img]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v196/mazakari/CanopyMod005aa.jpg
RE: Lets see those Trex pictures!
Hi Rob, endeavor was spot on with my canopies. There are some that are plastic and the newer XL style canopies are fiberglass. The scoops as he said are from wing servo mounts, trimmed to fit. I did this mod because I had some bad rubbing on a couple of my links. I didn't just want to cut holes, so this cleaned it up a little. I paint all my own canopies, some turn out better than others.[;)]

RE: Sling Load
Hi Helijack, The weight was around 400g. I was running a heavier battery pack, so for C of G it was in a good position. Yeh, Dumping the load on the ground if it swings is the best thing to do but on the full size machines it isn't always the best option. With a little practice you can learn to fly 'into' the swing and kill the pedulum motion instantly. It's a little harder to do with the Rex though, but not impossible.

RE: the Reflex demo
The Reflex demo is just a video, of sorts. Its good to download because you can then tell if your computer is fit to run it as it is very graphics hungry. It is expensive to buy, but well worth the money. If you are lucky, you can pick them up on ebay but they hold their price very well. If you do, make sure you match it to your brand of Tx !!! As far as the physics on Reflex goes, it is as good as it gets. Not real, but not far from it.[:D] Jon

TRex Lowrider
Just finished making my Lowrider skids for my TRex. This puppy is now so low you can cut the grass without going inverted !!! [:D] They have a 140mm spread (extra wide) and the tail fin is still 10 -15mm off the ground !! The skids are made from 1.2mm T3 aluminium so they are light and very strong. I have also made some taller ones for flying off of long grass but I prefer the 'Lowrider' look. Anyway, here are the pic's...........(My canopy is looking tired. RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum
chench, I use aluminium for my head stiffener. Works a treat. As long as it is balanced it cures a lot of wobbles. Because it was hard to make the stiffener 100% balanced, I used slightly longer bolts so when I did a static balance on the head I was able to add extra washers on the bolts to get the balance perfect. RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum
It depends on the components. Just take a battery for example. If you get one that will power a TRex, the poor little DF won't lift it. The Rex needs a 11.1V 2100mAh minimum to fly properly and that is just too much for the DF. Rx, Tx etc. Yes. Just keep in mind what you fancy later on. Gyro, it has to be a GY401. The DF will carry that and you can move that on to bigger things. I'm not saying don't do it. Just keep in mind what else you may have planned.[;)][;)][:D] Jon

RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum
I have to chip in here. I know this is a Walkera 4 thread, but if you have tried these heli's and have become addicted to the hobby then before you pay for any mods add up the potential cost. I did my mod's for a bit of a laugh and because I can't leave anything 'standard' for long. Always looking for how to make it a little bit better. I already knew that I was addicted and would be buying a TRex. Because of this all my mods could be done on pocket money. The real money stayed in the bank until I was ready to buy my Rex. Now if you intend to move on to bigger things, keep you heli reasonably standard. This heli is good fun and will teach you a lot, but it is restriced to when and where you can fly. It is very resiliant and will get up crash after crash, perfect learning tool. If you don't see yourself moving on to bigger things but, enjoy flying your heli then I would say go for a full separate brushless setup. Remeber, you could go out and blow $200 - $300 on this little bird and when you move on it will sit on a shelf. My Walkera does come out now and again for a play but its just for mucking about. My TRex has flown in near 30 mph winds (not much fun but I can say I have done it......once[;)]). Because of this and the way it handles it gets all my flying time now. Please, run to a budget and decide what you would like to flying in 6 months time. That way you will have the most fun out of this hobby. Jon

RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum
Mmmm, there is always the chance that an 11.1V LiPo will blow the 4 in 1, but many have tried it with no problems, like myself. There are others that have blown their 4 in 1 with the standard NimH.......... Everyone knows the electrics in the Walkera helis is, well, shall we say inconsistent. You do have the chance that you heli might need an upgrade of new electrics, or you might turn it into a rocket ship.[:D] Jon

RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum
The 6V Speed 300 is the upgrade motor of choice for those who want to stay 'brushed'. The 7.2V motor only has a no load rpm of about 12,500. I was sent the wrong motor (7.4V) when I ordered one and trust me, it won't even get you off the ground. The fact the 300 is 6V doesn't seem to matter. Many people use it and it works fine. I use 11.1V with my 370 and it seems to thrive on it !!! When it burns out then my Speed 300 will have and 11.1V LiPo pumped through it.[;)][:D] I'll have a look through my links to see if I can find somewhere in the US that sells it. Jon
