RE: OHIO DAWN PATROL 2012
I shall take up my place at the end of pit road (as I'll probably be the last one there) Saturday morning. My 8 yr old daughter is coming with me, so HPA on your best behavior...yeah, right. Martin

Barzini, Here's what I make. I have the same one on my scratchbuilt 1/4 scale Dv. I have to make one for Luckydog too. Sorry for the delay Mike. The pictures in this ad are for the 1/3 scale Albi. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1547657 Thanks, Martin

Have you tried your lhs? Mine sells 6" x 12" in 1/64th thickness. Anything bigger and I'd order from balsa USA or one of the other balsa and ply sellers. Martin

RE: ESM Stuka trapeze mod/ wing pylons, etc.
Here's a picture of one I made for a friend. He's got it mounted, but not had it in the air yet. It is quite loud and my wife tells me she can hear it's annoying tone from about half a mile away. It has a brake servo on the back of the housing to stop it when not wanting it to scream. Just dropping a random post here. Martin

RE: Siemens-Schuckert D.III 1/3 Scale
ORIGINAL: geezeraviation I wish I had a metal cowl laying about, and the spinner as well. I will have to call Jaime and see if the quoted price for the 1/4 cowl includes a spinner. If so it's not too outrageous, just outrageous.
If you can't get a spinner, I can do those pretty easily as well. I did the spinner for my own 1/4 scale Dv. I didn't do the cowlings for this beast though. I think they were done by a professional. Martin

I have a bunch of 1/8" G-10 that's cut into 10" x 10" squares. I can put some in the boxes with the spinners that will be going out this weekend. Let me know if anyone is interested. I'll cut you a pretty good deal. Martin

RE: Warning! Bad Dealings with Glenn Torrance Models!
Oberst, I think you made your point. You're just making yourself look bad at this point. There is no law stating that a business must sell anything to anyone. Good luck with your discrimination case. That is probably one of the stupidest things I've read on here in a long time. I think I'm seeing a trend here. I have yet to hear anyone else say a bad thing about GTM, and for good reason. For the record making an ammo can isn't rocket science.

RE: Siemens-Schuckert D.III 1/3 Scale
I have several long rolls of semi transperent mylar that was given to me. I used it to sheet my 1/4 scale Dv with the plywood. It works quite well taping it over where you want it then drawing in the piece you want. Transfer that to the ply or balsa and voila. It's pretty nice to see through it where you want the wood to cover. Let me know if you guys want some and I can send some with the spinners. Martin

RE: AMA sanctioned club looks to punish members
As our clubs Secretary/ newsletter editor I would say if you don't like the way the BOD is taking your club put your hand up at the next officer election and get on board. I've found that in 'volunteer' groups such as we are it's pretty easy to get elected as there are not many people willing to work for the wages we get. Martin

RE: scale turnbuckles - is there a need?
As far the cost of turnbuckles, I don't think I could really make myself pay more than about $5 a piece each for one that's exactly scale. I just can't see spending $200+ on turnbuckles for a model.
I guess you're stuck with the Dubros then as they are about $5 a piece. Make some "exactly scale" ones up yourself and see if that five bucks would cover it. At that price you would cover the material and maybe you might, if you really worked hard, make a few bucks an hour. Hardly worth the effort. Isn't the time to make them worth something? Would you make an "exactly scale" plane and sell it for just over the price of the material you had in it? Didn't think so. I guess they'll just be for me then. Thanks, Martin

RE: scale turnbuckles - is there a need?
ORIGINAL: abufletcher

In terms of usability, there's the question of whether modelers really need turnbuckles with two eye ends or with clevis ends (or some other type).
This has a clevis end on one end and round eye on the other. Martin

RE: scale turnbuckles - is there a need?
Here's a picture of a turnbuckle I'm thinking of producing. I have a few questions before I go to the trouble and expense of making several hundred of these. What would you be willing to pay, is there really a market for these? I don't claim any ownership of the one in the picture, I didn't make that one. But will be making several hundred more just like it...(hopefully). The ends are 416 stainless steel with a 4-40 thread , and the center is brass. About 9/16" (.562") of useful travel. Just a quick run of the numbers show it'd support somewhere around 200 lbs. I know what I'd have to have out of them to be worth my while. Anybody have any idea what they'd pay for something like that? Just curious. Thanks, Martin

RE: OHIO DAWN PATROL 2010
Steve, I'll be there. Hopefully I can get the Albi fixed before then. Took a hard landing causing some gear damage. Should be a simple fix. Well, it would be a simple fix for most of you guys, but for me it may be a major fix. Anyway, it should be there. I was looking forward to starting something else, but now I must get it repaired. At least I know what it will fly like. By the way I can't wait to see the video you took. Thanks, Martin

At a club flyin last year I was lucky enough to run the radio impound for a few hours. I gotta tell ya, it was pretty boring sitting and watching my radio sit on the shelf all by itself. I was the only one. The more of you guys that convert over to 2.4, the less I worry about freq. problems. Pretty soon, I won't have to use a freq. pin either....Just kidding... Martin

Just got the go ahead from the better half. Just to be sure, you aren't doing 2.4 only at the ODP are you? I'm one of the six people left in the US still on 72mhz it seems. Ah well, plenty of low price stuf out there. I'll be sending off my $$ in the mail tomorrow. Looking forward to it. Martin

RE: OHIO DAWN PATROL 2010
I made the turnbuckles. The price was just a little salty to have to buy 18 of them for this plane. Here's a shot of the spinner for it.. I haven't cut the prop slots yet, but that won't be a big deal. I did break down and buy the vaccuuformed front end from Proctor rather than using the one I made from fiberglass. The plastic one fit perfectly. Just a little trimming, a little painting, and some small screws and it'll be installed. My achilles heel on this plane has definitely been the dummy engine. I did make some aluminum plugs to vaccuuform off. Also here's a pic of the rocker boxes and the rocker arms. It's getting there. Having fun, Martin
