Sonex Jet
Did I miss this somewhere else? I'm surprised no one else has brought this up here considering the goal is to be able to build it for under 50K and it is suppose to cruise at 250 mph. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gZsXvyxjQ0 Mark

RE: GTM Hanriot Build
I thought about electric too a bit....Was thinking like an AXI 5330 F3A and some A123s in some kind of saddle pack configuration behind the dummy radial to really get the weight out there. Should swing a pretty good size prop too. Mark

RE: GTM Hanriot Build
Has anyone else put any thought into the RCV120-SP for this model? Just a numbers comparison OS FT-160 is 2.0 HP, RCV is 1.8 HP. OS will swing a 20x6 max and the RCV will do a 20x12 max (at half the RPM). Definitely would have to work out how to get the weight as far forward as possible, but it would make putting in a sale radial pretty easy. Found this too http://www.rcvengines.com/gallery/rcv120sp_nieuport17.htm The weight is only 2 onces less, but the potential to swing a larger scale size prop would get more weight farther forward. Any thoughts anyone? Mark

RE: Sepulveda Basin
I think what Limey is talking about is being experienced a lot by the heli guys lately. They are calling them brown outs. I think it is a by product of them running the new JR 8717s on 8 volts. What I want to know is if an 88 inch Extreme Flight Yak or Extra would be too much for the 8717s on 8 Volts. On 6 they are rated for 196 oz/in holding power and .07 sec/60 degrees. Mark

That might be true. The only documentation I found supporting it was for the AR9100 and the feature is called "Instant-On reconnect" and they claim less then a 1/2 second reconnect with it. Even the AR9000 binding manual makes no mention of the feature. Mark

RE: Sepulveda Basin
Some one correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that Spektrum has improved the reset time when there is a power glitch. They did it by making the receiver automatically check the last 2 channels it was receiving on as soon as it reboots. They demoed it at the AMA convention in the Spektrum seminar and it was definitely faster then 2 seconds. I think it is only a feature of the DSM2 receivers though. Mark

If you're going to thin it you may as well use Poly C because the reduced strength of the resin is going to end up in the range of Poly C and Poly C is easier to work with. Mark

The environment you work in should ideally be above 70 degrees and less then 50% humidity when working with resins. Usually your products package will have more specifics. Mark

There is a definite aquired technique to it. I think I've heart of people using 3M 77 to make the wood a bit tacky to help hold the glass flat while you start to work in the resin. I could be wrong though.... Mark
ORIGINAL: vertical grimmace 29cm is only 11". The covering shown in the link is too small. Glenn Torrance covered this in his 1/3rd scale DVI build on RCSB. Mark

GTM is made from normal cotten linen and glued on with fabric glue. Not easy but more accurate for the period. I'd say the Nelson would be my personal choice if the printing process would work on it. I believe it is fuel proof off the roll. Mark
ORIGINAL: seanreit Great........... More stuff............ I thought you guys were my "friends"!! [sm=bananahead.gif] That is cool, gotta get it now to test it out!
That's nothing....this screen is roughly 25' wide and around 10' high with 3 DLP projectors behind it shining onto mirrors and bouncing it back to the screen. When it is running in stereo (geek talk for 3D) I've seen a Lockheed C-130 look like it is floating out of the screen past the 3rd row of tables while standing at the back of the room. This room was dedicated for use in the Boeing C-130 project. Boeing ENTIRELY reverse engineered the Lockheed C-130 so that they could design a new modern avionics package. I think they told me that there is over 10 million components in their 3D model of the plane. They make desktop solutions for 3D as well, but none of this stuff is cheap....just lots of fun to play with when someone else bought it. =) Mark
