RE: HOBBY king going down the tube?
Well as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. Sometimes it's just a cheap product, while other times it is the service the suffers. I did place one HK order a while back, and one of the items in the order was out of stock. No biggie, right? Well after 2 months I finally gave up and cancelled that item. They did eventually get that item back in stock, about 4 months after I placed the original order. I knew full well it was out of stock, but that was one heck of a long wait for a single servo.

My guess would be servo's ESC, Motor and stuff like that, radio. kind of interested in going electric, I can't take to many more Nitro let downs.
I have one too, and it is a ton of fun. Also, the gearbox is bulletproof, with 32 pitch gears that can take a ton of punishment. The only fragile part on the vehicle are the cheap springs on the pivot of the transmission case. Out of all my cars, I drive the Lunch Box and 540 powered Grasshopper the most. The Grasshopper has the same transmission, actually.

At the hospital today. My grandmother is dying. [&o] Just sitting in the lounge area on my netbook, reading The Lounge. Trying to pass the time while waiting with family. Such a sad, sad day. I owe so much to her, people ask me how I know so much about computers, and where did I learn all this stuff... The truth is although I learned a lot of things over the years, all of my core skills that everything else is built upon were taught to me by my grandma.

RE: The Lounge: Version 4.0
I don't like the looks of that snake one bit. Finally got the Blackfoot together tonight. My issue was I didn't have a receiver for it, and also that for whatever reason the screw stripped itself out of the output shaft of the servo. That small issue was solved by a screw with thicker threads, but I still needed a receiver... So I ordered one of those Hobbykong 2.4GHz systems. The receivers were so cheap I ordered half a dozen of them. The rattling of the TX came from a screw that was somehow loose inside, I opened it up just enough to crack the casing and a large screw fell out. Glad I got it out now instead of having it short something out in the future. Aside from that little mishap, it seems like it will do just fine and I didn't notice any issues driving the Blackfoot around.

That's a lot of threadlocker! I finally got the Hobbyking order I placed months ago. I had a few items that were out of stock but there was a servo in there that was just not coming back in stock, so I gave up and cancelled it about 7-10 days ago. I actually got an email last night that the servo was finally in stock, and when I came upstairs today the box was sitting on the kitchen counter. Not sure if it came today or yesterday when I wasn't here. Too bad I have to work today. :( Oh and of course everyone will want to know what I ordered... Just some radio gear. I've lost all my crystals and since I can get an entire cheap HK receiver for the price of a single AM crystal, I figured I'd try their stuff out. Don't have time to plug it in and try everything but I can hear something rattling around inside the TX, so that doesn't bode well...

RE: The Lounge: Version 4.0
Finally got around to tearing apart the camera I drunkenly smashed at a wedding next year. I wanted to at least try and replace the screen before I threw it away. Unfortunately it isn't a common model, so I had to tear it apart and search for the model number printed on the LCD, instead of the usual process of searching for "[model name] replacement screen" on eBay. I found one, but the screen was uncommon too, so I only found one seller on eBay. Every other search for the screen came back with those Chinese companies that will sell you between 5 and 5000 of something, which is obviously not what I'm in need of. But I did find one, even if it was twice the price of more common screens, ($27 shipped instead of $15 or less) and coming all the way from China which means I won't see it for at least a month. But at least I'll get the camera working again. :D
ORIGINAL: lee172 Any idea where i'd find an OEM disc image?
The usual places, like torrent sites. Failing that, you can usually buy the recovery discs directly from your laptop manufacturer. Prices vary, but they seem to be around $20-$25 most of the time. Seems kind of steep for something that used to be included for free with computers, but that's the way it is these days. If you don't want to do either, there's always Linux. :) I repair computers on the side, and only very rarely does a person have their original recovery discs. I think that's a big reason why they went to recovery partitions and stopped including the discs, since they usually got thrown out anyway.
ORIGINAL: The_Shark can i tell you c3 headlights are a absolute joy to remove? unbolt the vac-actuator, remove springs and pin, lower the hood, push the part off the housing, push it to the other side of the car, open the hood and carefully remove, remove the 3 rusted bolts, then figure out how to turn the whole assembly 90 degrees by unbolting the vac regulator, lines, horn and support bar, then carefully remove from the hole in the body by lifting and rotating 90 degrees again. took me around 3hours for both, i need to rebuild one due to a corroded support.
I would think it would be easier, since it is an older vehicle and older cars are often easier than newer ones with regard to things like changing bulbs. The Cutlass Ciera was a chore too. The A-body was originally designed with sealed beam lamps on all four models. Eventually they had optional composite lamps which became standard by the end of the model, but in the intervening years access to the rear was blocked by modern things like the front post battery and ABS junk. I had to use a pair of forceps to change the bulb.

I guess it was low, I checked it and it read normal, but the guy at the shop told me that particular transmission can be tricky to read and he sees it all the time. As for why it was low on fluid, one of the cooler lines sprung a leak and needs to be replaced. That's an easy fix though, an OEM line is $10 and not much more complicated than a heater hose, so it's something I can do. :)

RE: The Lounge: Version 4.0
I haven't been on the Lounge much either. RC hobby is in idle mode right now. With no one to conveniently bash with, and being unable to invest in anything new and exciting, I haven't had much urge to run my vehicles. That, and the daylight and time constraints of working 2nd shift full time. I do have a Hobbykong order with some random junk in it, but the whole thing has been held up for weeks due to a stupid servo being out of stock. I knew that going in, actually half of my order was out of stock at the time I placed it, but everything else was in stock within a week. Not that I'm in a huge hurry to get it, but it sucks knowing that one servo is keeping it from shipping. Tried to get my transmission looked at today, which would be yesterday for you daytime folks. [8|] Sadly, it didn't work out for me. Because I work 2nd shift I'm usually getting up at noon, but in order to get anything done during the week I need to get up early since I can't do much after work at 11pm. The problem is that "early" for me falls right around everyone else's lunch hour, so whenever I try to get something done just before work, inevitably the place is "out to lunch". Maddening, having to wake up 3 hours earlier in order to run an errand. To put it in perspective for those of you who wake up at 6am for work, imagine having to get up at 3am so you could visit the doctor because he's out to lunch between 5 and 7 and closes around noon. That's my life right now... [:@]

Well the Blackfoot is finally done. I can't remember when I started it but I think I bought it back in October. I just hate the paint and sticker process, if every kit came with a finished body I'd be a happy man. :D Of course I went box art with it, kind of have to with a kit like that! Might post up some pics once the final coat of gloss enamel dries. Still needs a radio and either a new servo or a screw that will hold the steering in place. The hardest part was the gigantic side stickers. There's a lightning bolt pattern that is supposed to line up and getting it even remotely close was a huge pain.

RE: The Lounge: Version 4.0
So I finally finished the Blackfoot today. Well, kind of. Decided I was sick and tired of walking past it with just 2 of the 30 or so stickers on it, and decided to spend the evening finishing that up. So I got all the stickers on it, hit it with the blowdryer to smooth them out, and coated it with gloss enamel. I might throw one more coat on dependin on how it looks in the morning. Of course it won't truly be "done" until I get it running. For some reason the screw ripped itself out of the steering servo I used, and I can't seem to find a better screw that will hold in place. I've thought about applying liberal amounts of CA but I do have a Hobbykong order I'm waiting on with a cheap metal gear servo to put in place of the stripped plastic one. It was going to be a shelf queen, but as usual I botched the sticker job badly enough that I don't feel bad for bashing it. So once I get that servo I will probably send it speeding toward a wall at full throttle.
