RE: New Giant GP Super Sportster!!!!!
So you'll know, most all the early version Sportsters had weak horizontal stabs. I had one fold up on me around 1979. GP replaced it and the new one got wires. Problem solved. Apparently, the ARF's may have an issue... Put 4-40 ridged guy-wires on and you're fixed forever. I had to do this to my RV-4 also.
ORIGINAL: flyin two low I am looking at the seagull yak 90 for this engine. does anyone have any comments on this. is this too much plane for the 20 cc engine? thanks DON
I have about 250 flights on my Seagull YAK powered with a Zenoah G20. It flies great. About a month ago, I put a DLE-30 in my YAK. I have about 40 flights on it and it's awesome...
ORIGINAL: n57tc The ignition is the only thing I don't have a second of. Guess I will just have to order one to see. Thanks for the help
I have had this happen to several different engines over the years. Now I keep a "back-up" ignition in my field box. This doesn't happen often, but it does happen.

RE: NEW DLE30!
ORIGINAL: n57tc Well, I guess I need to clarify what I am experiencing. The New rear carbed DLE30 ran great for the first gallon and then I had a dead stick. Since the dead stick the engine won't go over 1/4 throttle without dying. Here's what I have done so far. 1) Replaced fuel tank and all the fuel lines. 2) Took carb apart and cleaned and replaced the fuel pump diaphram and the regulator diaphram 3) Tried a new 4 cell battery pack that works on my DL50 Still the engine will not run over 1/4 throttle without dying. Anything else I should check? Thanks for all the replies
Bad ignition module, it's not advancing properly.

RE: BH50? braveheart engines?
ORIGINAL: Tired Old Man I've seen some close up interior views, and was provided actual performance from someone I know and trust. My opinion is at this time they are well over priced. It's not always about a low price, it also has to be able to do what you intended it for. With a little work it has the potential to be a good engine, but it still needs that work.
I don't know what "work" you are referring to... I own a BH50 and it runs fine. It starts easy, (normally 2 or 3 flips) and it powers a 22x8 prop to a respectable 7100 RPM. I am not a reseller, distributor, or anything similar. Just an RC modeler of 41 years...

I installed the OS 55GT engine in the CAP yesterday. I hope to fly it in the next day or so. This engine is very potent and it should take the CAP to a new level of performance.

RE: BH50? braveheart engines?
I have a BraveHeart 50 that was on an airplane I bought. It had 10 flights on it when I claimed ownership and I've FLOWN it many times since then. This engine runs fine. It starts on a few flips and it turns a JZ 22x8 prop at slightly over 7100 RPM. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this engine, it's just not pretty to look at.

RE: Zimpro Cap 21 96
Morning Johnny, Yes sir, we put a lot of work into GSW over the last 5 or 6 years. It's a super nice airfield! I had expiremented with many props, and I have decided that this CAP 21 needs more horsepower under the hood. I happen have one of those new OS 55GT gas engines on my test stand and it out-runs virtually any engine up to about 62cc. I am astonished at how stable this CAP 21 is. I have not found any bad habits "yet". I dead-sticked it one time and I was a LONG way from the landing strip, she just floated home right... to my feet. With a little more horsepower under the hood, this aircraft will re-define aerobatics. [image]http://tech.flygsw.org/cap21_a.jpg[/image] Mark

I killed the engine in a upward vertical snap so I had my first dead-stick with it, and she just floated home.

RE: Zimpro Cap 21 96
The CAP 21 maidened today, and it was surprisingly docile. It only needed three clicks of down elevator and she was locked on rails. The BH 50 runs good and it flies the CAP OK, but its not exactly over-loaded with horsepower. This bird really flies GREAT! In fact, it is the best CAP 21 I've flown... and I have flown A LOT of CAPS! [image]http://tech.flygsw.org/cap21a.jpg[/image] This is actually a "CLIPPED WING" CAP. It was originally 96" but it's now 92". RE: Zimpro Cap 21 96
Hey JDS, I spent part of the day shuffling things around on the CAP. I did fire up the BH, and it seems to have reasonably good power. Once I get everything re-arranged I'll take it out for a long maiden. I moved the throttle servo, and the gas tank. And now I am in the process of closing off the firewall, gas vapors get straight into the fuselage from that rear carb. Mark

RE: Zimpro Cap 21 96
cap10b, I have been preparing your CAP21 for a new "maiden". I was originally going to replace the BH50, but now I think I will leave it on for awhile. The overall size and structural quality of this aircraft can easily support a 62cc or even an 80cc engine. I will make that decision after get 10 or so flights on it. I have never been a fan of Lipo's so the Dualsky batteries are gone. I did keep the receiver regulator though. I like the fail-safe switch. It appears that you had the CG set around 33%. I'm leaving it there for now. There's a good possibility it will maiden today... Again I must say, you built a really fine aircraft! Mark

RE: Zimpro Cap 21 96
ORIGINAL: cap10b Outstanding ! Gomez told me that you love Caps, well so do I and I think this CAP 21 flies the best out of all of them. The only thing you need to do with the motor is just make sure they weight about the same. Weight and balance on a Cap 21 is critical but this plane seems to have allot of room on the CG. There are two wooden servo boxes up front for throttle, at one time I had a 3W 50I mounted up front and use them for throttle and choke. They should work great on an OS 55GT. I had some more lead on the nose under the ignition just to be sure I was forward on the CG. If I were to keep the plane I would have eventually taken it out. Post some pics when you get a chance. jds
I certainly will! I generally keep my CG slightly aft in all of my airplanes, except CAP 21's. These birds are notorious for low-speed snaps on final approach, so they get a slightly (about 3 oz.) forward CG. I will get some photos of the maiden ASAP. I'm really looking forward to putting this CAP through its paces!! Mark

RE: Zimpro Cap 21 96
ORIGINAL: cap10b Revy, Does it fly like a Cap 232 , dont know never owned a Cap 232. I had the Yellow AC Cap10b, VQ Cap10b, Great Planes Cap21 and this one. It flys like a Byron but does not land like a Byron. It has better qualities on landing and slow speed than Byron. But will this plane high speed stall and snap to the out side wing. You bet, have more that 66% elevator throw at full throttle and do something sudden in the air and you bet it will snap. Is the airplane a handfull and white knuckle express. No, just slow down to moderate speed on all your maneuvers and all should be okay. Tight turns, I pulled about 1/4 elevator on the 66% setting and the plane whipped around pretty fast, fast enough that I said to my self, need to turn this down some when I get on the ground. Landings were good, the plane floated a little on me but I had some down trim in it. I was trying to see how slow I could get the plane to land and she slowed down quite a bit, more than I would expect. However I got too slow and stalled it about 1 foot off the ground with no snap, just a forward plop and broke my high dollar ($20) PK Plus 20x10 wood prop. No damage, just some cat calls from the peanut gallery. Well she is somebody elses problem now. jds
JDS, That would be my problem now! However, I've flown (model) CAP 21's for nearly 41 years. You just have to be careful on your final approach. You did a really nice job building this aircraft! I look forward to throwing it around! I have one of those NEW OS 55GT gas engines I'm considering putting into this CAP. However, I may try the BH50 first just to see how it compares to the OS 55. Mike Darnell and I go back over 35 years! I maidened my first RC Airplane at Northlake in April 1969... I've been hooked ever since. I flew (MVVS factory sponsored) F-1 Pylon at Mesquite for 5 years back in the early 80's. Mark

I flew on a Biela 22x8 and a Xoar 22x8 today. The Biela out performed the Xoar in flight, however both props tached at 7330RPM on the ground. I was happy with both props but the Biela had a bit more vertical authority.

RE: OS GT 55 (Gasoline engine)
I tried the ignition on 6.0 volts today, and I can't tell any difference in starting, running, or power consumption as compared to 4.8 volts. I haven't seen any data on the wattage this ignition uses but it can't possibly be worse than Zenoah. I did bump up the timing slightly (about 5 degrees) to give it a little more punch and it certainly does.

RE: OS GT 55 (Gasoline engine)
Most all the new Walbro carbs are equipped with plastic fuel fittings these days, and they work fine. I have 14 flights on my OS55GT now, and it runs better every time I fly it. Right now I'm getting 7490 RPM on a 22x8 and its not tuned up for full power yet. I picked up some different props to try out after I get a little more run-time. I am using a 4.8 VDC battery for the ignition right now but my next flights will be with a 6.0 VDC just to see if it's any better or not.

I bought one of these engines today. I paid 557.95 from my local hobby shop. This is one wicked looking engine, and it's super light-weight. It uses mufflers made for a DA-50 so you have lots of options available. I will be using a canister muffler. [image]http://tech.flygsw.org/55GT.jpg[/image] I will be using this engine in a Super Decathlon which is currently powered with a Brillelli 42cc. I expect to see major vertical performance.

RE: About time Zoomer!
We may have to re-vitalize this thread! I ordered & received a Zoomer last week. I will be using "some" of the techniques posted here, but not all. I've been building RC airplanes for about 40 years now. The Zoomer is a very simple aircraft to build. I have already built and set the firewall as well as cutout for the engine. I'm using a modified Evolution 52 in my Zoomer. It's not the best engine in the world but I already have it, and it's laying around collecting dust. Right now it's taching 18,500 RPM on an MAS 10x7 prop. I may be able to squeeze another thousand RPM out of the 52 after the Zoomer is ready to maiden...
