RE: Official Mayhem Thread
yeah i have figured that out. i have put at least a gallon through it already. i broke it in on 20% with the medium restricter. put about 10 tanks through it like that and then i changed to the large restricter with the 30% fuel in it. thats when the breakage began. RE: Official Mayhem Thread
you wont believe all the messed up stuff i found when tearing the buggy down yesterday. the center diff was leaking so i went ahead and took it out. the pinion gear shafts had actually turned sideways in the housing. i have a pic of it if someone will tell me where i can host it. the axle i mentioned before and the rest of the internals in the center diff. i am going to check the front and rear when i get my parts and start putting it back together. i think i am going to run either 5-7-1, or 6-6-2, or 6-7-2, something like that.

RE: Official Mayhem Thread
ok-- i have a couple of questions. i was playing with my mayhem yesterday on asphalt and it would launch hard and spin the tires on the pavement and leave black marks. the left front axle broke where the pin holds the axle to the drive cup. the drive cup itself is what broke. and it started making a high pitched noise and acted like the clutch was slipping and then it quit moving altogether. is the axle breaking being experienced by anyone else and horizon already has me a set of clutch shoes in the mail.

RE: Nitro buggies are rubbish
on a mayhem rtr (and i suspect the arr also) the outer filter is not oiled and is not supposed to be i am told. but in dusty conditions i found out that if you dont oil the outer, the inner clogs up after about 1-2 hours of playing. if you clean both and dry, then oil both, the inner stays clean for over 3 hours, and the outer foam has such large cell construction that you can just take it off and knock most of the dirt off by thumping it lightly.

RE: What do you carry your equipment in?
$20 duffel from wal-mart. holds my mayhem, 4-tec and gallon of fuel and fuel bottle, both radios, and a medium size flat plastic box (the type that fishermen use), the ez start and the roto-start. and i have a little room left over. i built a small platform out of lightweight wood that fits over the mayhem and the 4-tec sits on it.

where do you find this info? i am on their site and cant find anything about the mayhem.
ORIGINAL: phishrfriend Horizon has finally realized the problem with the start pack on the RTR. I went through 4 before they finally sent me a metal gear to replace the cheap plastic that kept getting chewed up. I am not sure if they are now shipping the starters with the metal gear already in. I also bought a sportworks bump box but Im waitin on the pro motor mounts so I can use it. Its slowly starting to warm up and stop raining in PA. Just had the mayhem out today and it ran great. I only got about 10-15 tanks through it last season before the cold weather hit. Im hoping that my motor will finally finish break in and I can really see what this buggy can do. On a side note, I recently took apart my engine DOUBLE CHECK YOUR CLUTCH SHOES!!! Mine were chewed to all hell. I pulled some off an old engine for the time being but Im going to order some Ofna blue alum. shoes when I get the chance.
yes, put a larger bore in it, its the same as putting a larger carb on a real car. more air=more fuel=more power.

RE: Need Help
once again, just on a diff thread, i absolutely love my mayhem.....it seems to love the 30% eliminator fuel and only needs to be barely tweaked depending on ambient conditions. they are definately tough and i have had mine, no lie, up to 10 and 12 feet in the air. and it is fast, i think actually over 50 with the 9mm carb throat and the 30% fuel, but my friend with the pd hasnt had time to radar it for me yet. and they can be bought for less than the 550. i got mine for 460 after shipping and have heard of it for less.

before you decide on one or the other, go read some of the other posts and topics on this. i bought the 4tec and love it, although i have yet to drive a ntc3. there is some good info on this discussion in other topics. read up a little before you buy, and try to drive both of them.

the wildcat is what i run in my mayhem and 4tec. it tunes really easy in the .26 in the mayhem, but the 4tec is a lot more picky.
ORIGINAL: vti-chris Yes but the total is much less in the MT fuel. But anyway i like this fuel although the LHS says that he will change it to wild-cat fuel eliminator,i might tell him to keep ordering it just for me though, will see.I know that the wildcat has 16%oil but from what i've seen up to now, less oil=more power+easy tuning+clean burning. RE: tires and wheels for a 4tec
ok---new update--i would not buy those hpi tires. the foams are junk and keep tearing apart on top speed runs. i am now thinking about buying some proline tires or some solid foam inserts--anyone got any suggestions of some foams? and now after i have been running these things that the lhs said would work if they cleared the chassis---i call hpi, bad customer service, on hold for over 20 minutes, they tell me that these wheels and tires are not compatable!

well, i just got back from the lhs and they dont have anything that will interchange anyway so i will just order a set. and by the way, i am putting the clutch bell bearings back in, how the heck do the shims go? it all came apart in my hands so i could not see how they were stacked. the diagram shows the shims between the outer bearing and the screw. is that right or do 2 go in the inside and 2 go on the outside?

RE: Official Mayhem Thread
im trying to get the ball off of the shaft, not the shaft off of the control arm, the allen on the end of the shaft is to screw it into the control arm. the ball screws onto the shaft itself, so you have to hold the shaft with a pair of pliers and turn the ball with a pair of pliers. unfortunately i have removed some of the finish from the ball even with a rag doubled up around the jaws of the pliers. i called horizon and they said that i was trying to remove it properly but that they are really hard.

i dont know for sure because it will vary with atmospheric conditions and your altitude, and i dont know for sure about my mayhem, but my 4tec will not get over 250-260 before it leans out and wont run as good. so you will probably have lower temps with the 30% imo---from my experience
ORIGINAL: casper7 What temps will I be running if I switch to 30%? RE: Best Fuel & plug combo
i am using eliminator 30% in my 4 tec and mayhem and both run a lot cooler and seem to have a ton more power than with 20%. the 4tec runs about 250-260 with the hsn set to best performance, if i run it any leaner--its too lean to run. the mayhem with the 9mm insert and 30% i think will do over 50 mph. i know what the numbers say for it, but trust me, its a heck of a diff between the two fuels. the plug is the standard traxxas plug on both of them. ill edit and post the number later today.

new breakage---i didnt realize the servos drain so fast in the mayhem and they almost died on me. i got far enough away for it to lose signal and it got away from me. i broke the lower pivot ball shaft off into the control arm. and i noticed when tearing down that both the clutch bell bearings were destroyed. wonder what caused that?
