RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
Ok, after a little more study of the plans (I put on my reading glasses) I can now see it's for a 1/8" X 1/4" stringer that runs full length down both sides in the mid point of the fuse in that slot. Looks like it's meant to be a starting point for the top & bottom fuse sheeting.

What page 1 of what directory are you referring to? The TF instruction manual or the RCU build thread? Can't find what you talking about.

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
Fuse question. I've just finished building the wing of a TF GS Corsair and have moved on to the fuselage. I have a question concerning the initial start of the fuse build. The instructions say to pin the shaped balsa main fuse stringers onto the plan with the slot facing outward. My question is what is this 1/8" slot used for. I looked forward in the instructions and can't see what it's purpose in life is. It must have some purpose but I have no clue. How about a little info here, inquiring minds want to know. Thanks in advance

RE: Norvel Engine FAQ
Going up 10% nitro in your fuel is not going to help out that much. Maybe +500 rpm tops. Sounds like you need to gain a lot more thrust than what just higher nitro fuel is going to get ya. Not to mention all the other problems your going to get into using high nitro fuel. Sound like your problem is not going to be that easy to solve. Sorry but this is just my opinion.

RE: RANT: The
I just can't help myself from commenting on this subject. I myself don't have any ARF's. I do however assemble some for others for money. I have always been under the impression that those who do ARFs just threw them away when they were damaged and just phoneyed up for a new one. Money seems to be no problem to this segment of the sport. That's what keeps me in business. Silly me I guess I just figured if you didn't have the time to build a real model, then repairing one was totally out of the question! If I were selling ARF's to this "instant gratification" segment of the hobby I would carry no parts at all and just sell the whole bundle over and over and over again.

Sheeting done with Titebond & Heat
I know I've read some where about doing sheeting using Titebond wood glue and heat. I Would like to know more about the process. Thanks.

RE: Lost my shop buddy last night
I feel your loss. I also had a very affectionate cat/building buddy that we named Alex, he was solid black and was named after one of my teenage sons African American friends, Alex. Anyway, we had him for 3 years or so. Every night he'd go out and every day break he'd come back home. Then one night he went out and just never came back. I'm guessing he also got out in the street and was run over. We looked and looked for several days and then just accepted the fact that he was gone forever. This tore me up more than any loss I've ever experienced. Even more than B1 or B2 (ex-wives). Not too long ago we got a replacement, another cat solid black and we named him Ali. After the boxer. But it's not the same.

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
Thanks for that information, but I'm not doing gear doors (thank god). I'm framing it up for a friend for money. Not enough money but I don't think I could have gotten any more out of it. Building RC planes for other people for money is NOT the road to fame & fortune but I do enjoy it so I guess it's OK. By the way the magic number was 400. Prolly going to work out to 2 bucks an hour and I don't have to cover it. (nobody ever said I was a fast builder)

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
Thanks that's what I needed to know. The 2 deg washout and the 1/8" tab on the T7 TE. I built the tip panels with my wing jig and I set it up with incidence meters on each end. They are both dead on. Now I'm joining the center section to the tip panels and needed the measurement from the building board to the TE of the T 7 rib to get the 2 degrees of washout. Thanks again for your quick reply.

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
I could use a little help/information about the TF Corsair Giant Scale wing. I'm building one for a friend who got the kit from another who started it and gave up early in the process. I wish he would have never started it! My problem now is, this idiot/clown/whatever cut all the tabs off from the ribs. You know the ones that holds the wing in the proper alignment with the spar when it's flat on the building board. If anyone out there has the measurement of the length of tip ribs (T 7) tab it would be a great help. He took all the ribs out of the sheets, cut all the tabs off and threw away the sheets. Thanks in advance for any help anyone is able to provide.

RE: Starting ?
Yes your power panel will do this job nicely but as far as what to set it at your going to have to hook it up (outside of the engine) to the same type of glow plug you want to use and look at the filament to see what color it's glowing when the power panel is connected. Like our friend from down under has said you don't want it dull red or white hot. Start with the control knob on the Power Panel turned down all the way and then slowly advance it to like a bright orange. Be careful it's easy to burn out Cox Glow Heads and they ain't cheep. Look at the meter on the power panel and note where the needle is. This would be the setting for that type of plug. There are other types of glow plugs that can be purchased that work with Cox engines available from after market sources. One that comes to mind is Nelson but there are others. Do a Google search and see what you can find.

RE: First Advanced kit build, recommendations on tool purchases recommended
A combination 6" disk sander/4" belt sander is my most used power tool. I have both a scroll saw and a band saw and they do get used BUT the disk sander is used most. Then the belt sander and then the saws. If you get a disk sander at Harbor Freight, they are pretty reasonable. http://www.harborfreight.com/power-tools/sanders/4-inch-x-36-inch-belt-6-inch-disc-sander-97181.html

RE: Ignorant question about cutting framing pieces....
I take a short piece of 3" wide X 16th balsa and lay it on the plan just to get the angle. Then I use my disk sander to shape the 3" sheeting to the proper angle using the adjustable fence. I do this a number of times till I get the exact angle setting on the fence. If the angle is on for 3" then it's way accurate for the 1/4" or whatever the stick size is. This sound like a lot of work but it really isn't cause once the fence is set you can then use it for the several sticks that will have that same angle on it. I have another smaller disk sander that I leave set at 90 deg. and I sand the 90 deg angle on one end then lay the part onto the plans to get the exact length of the overall stick, cut it a little long then use the sander that's set up with the correct angle and sand the angled end till it matches the plan. Your angle will now be exact.
