RE: Sebart Wind 110
Hi9 Okay I have a few daft question. 1) To me having to use up trim is wrong because the amount of force from the trim will vary with the planes air speed and will there fore need to be constantly adjusted to keep the plane trimmed for straight and level flight. Relying on up trim is a fudge not a fix. 2) As they all have this problem why wasn't it fixed in the flight testing ( eg wing or stab incidence adjusted) . One of the reason I bought the Wind ( which is not cheap) was that it is supposed to be an out of the box ready to go, minimum trimming solution to my need for a pattern plane. Needing to have up trim just plain annoys the T*Ts off me. If i had built this plane it would be telling me I had got it wrong somewhere. 3) I would have thought by pure physics ( eg force vector analysis) that you have down thrust on the engine trying to pull the nose down pivoting round the cg and we have up trim on the tail producing a downwards acting force on the tail. So we have two forces acting to counteract each other.(simplistically speaking) so if you reduce the down thrust you can reduce the amount of downwards acting force( eg up trim) at the tail. Or is my thinking entirely wrong?? Mike

RE: Sebart Wind 110
Hi cant really say. I havent flown an integral as yet. I do know that a Scots pilot of some note has flown a friends and was pretty impressed. I think you will find it doesnt fly as good as an Integral but the difference will be small. What i can say is it flies alot better than an Angel S. Mike

RE: Sebart Wind 110
Hi Tianci. Yes I know about trimming an aeroplane. Still learning. I perefer my planes to be trimmed so that they require zero elevator trim. I had my Angel like that and it flew brilliant and only needed slight pressure inverted and no pressure upright. I would like to get my Wind to the same state. Mike

RE: Sebart Wind 110
Hi Mine needs a couple of mm of up elevator to get it to fly straight and level. A few other guys have also said that theirs needed it too. How wide spread is this problem or have we just got a batch where the incidences are at the wrong end of the manufacturing tolerances . Mike

RE: Wind 110 trimming
Hi It is my intention to keep flying the plane unless the elevator is unmanageable. I will keep people posted as too my progress. What I can say is that the stock set up has bags of grunt and the loop I pulled with it was remarkably true considering i didnt consciously trying to keep it straight. Mike

RE: Wind 110 repairs
ORIGINAL: tommy s Mike, Unfortunately I am completing the exact repairs on my Wind 110. Landed on a grass field and...''CRACK'' ! Locate the two bulkheads that support the landing gear plate and cut out the balsa at the bottom of the airplane between the bulkheads up to the plate itself. The plate actually comes out easy, the epoxy is not super strong and they didn't use a lot of it. The plate in my Wind was made out of pretty crappy plywood that cracked way too easy. The piece I am putting back in is two pieces laminated together crossgrain so it should be stronger and I am installing a couple of small gusset braces for reinforcement. Glue some balsa back in the cut out opening and replace the white covering and it's done. Should not be too noticeable. tommy s
Hi Tommy After staring at her for an hour that was the plan I had come up with. I was real surprised when I noticed I had taken some damage as it was a near perfect single wheel landing. Balanced her on one wheel until the last one to tow feet. She didnt even slide off line. What You have told me is that I am going to need to replace the ply. Mike

RE: Wind 110 trimming
Hi She flies like a well mannered aeroplane. Dropped her within six feet of me with my first landing, noproblems slowling her down or controlling the speed during the decent. This is NOT a nose heavy aeroplane. Mike

RE: Wind 110 trimming
Hi Not sure where my cg is exactly. Like you I set my cg as to how the plane feels to me, but I will be surprised if it is any more forward than 180mm. I am flying the stock Hacker set up on 8s 5000mAh cells. The battery back is as far back as i can get it. The Rx battery is sitting on a platform above the rudder servo. It needs about 3mm of up elevator to get it to fly straight and level. No idea how she flies inverted as i didnt get the time to explore the envelope. Mike

Wind 110 repairs
Hi I flying my Wind 110 today and unfortuanlety one of the wheels came off ( My fault I should have lock tited the axle bolt) despite and almost perfect one wheel landing the undercarriage mounting plate suffered some damage. Has anyone had to do surgery in this area of the plane and if so how did you go about it? Mike

RE: Wind 110 trimming
Hi Unfortuntaley the Wing and the Stab incidence is set and I cant change it. Both the Wing and the Stab plug into recessed area of the Fuse and even minor changes would involve alot of hacking. Which I dont want to do unless I know for sure I am on the right track. Mike

RE: Jet Central Problems ... warantee???
Hi Peoples experience with Jet Central seem to be very polarised. Either they can't' sing their praises highly enough or will never touch them again. My experience is very similiar to Katrina's however I did get some satisfaction from JC ( after rolling out the big guns) but the entire incident left a very bitter taste in my mouth and it did cost my friend one very stunning jet. My experience with Jet Central has led me to make two major decisions regarding my Turbine flying. 1) Life time warranties are not worth the paper they are written on as it is down to JC to decide if it is a warranty repair or not, in my case they tried to claim FOD damage and stiff me with a very large bill for a Turbine with 20mins running time when there was very clear evidence to the contrary. 2) Only buy Turbines from manufacturers I can actually travel to and shake them warmly by the throat until satisfaction has been achieved. Mike PS To the poster that say this thread is about Flaming JC I would say that Forums like this have gone a long way to keeping manufacturers honest as modellers can quickly post and exchange their experience both good and bad and let the modelling public make their own minds up.

Wind 110 trimming
Hi I just test flew my Wind 110 today and to get her to fly I had to put in a surprising amount of up elevator trim( about 1/8th of an inch). My CG is towards the back of the recommended range, and she doesnt feel nose heavy. Didnt do much Aeorbatics as I was being kind to my brand new packs and I didnt fly her inverted to see how much down elevator she would require but judging by the elevator I am think it will need a bucket. ( I prefer just gentle pressure myself) Has anyone else hit the same problem and if so what did they do to cure it. I am thinking I need to reduce the amount of Down thrust. Mike

RE: Correct alignment techniques
Hi I have a copy of Bobs Video and his alignment gadgets however I have some problems with it such as how you can accurately cut the two foam slabs to support your wings horizontally when installing the wing tube. I have tried and given burn back with the foam it is very hard ( for me). Also getting such a large flat surface is not so easy either. Hence my post. Mike

Correct alignment techniques
Hi My least favourite job in building a plane is getting the Wings, Stab and fin in proper alignment ( well more the Stab and wings as most fins these days are moulded in). It is the easiest way by far to turn a fine plane into a total dog if it is done wrong. As I am always on the look out for better ways of doing things what are people's "secret" ways of getting this job done accurately? Mike

ZN line Axial
Hi I was admiring the ZN line Axial and I was wondering if the Wing and Stab tubes come ready aligned and glued in or do you have to do that part yourself. My space is limited and doing that part would be damn near impossible for me. Hence the question. Mike

RE: Wren or Jet Cat? Cant decide..
Hi Having had a bad experience with another well known Turbine manufacturer I am sticking with Wren. My mantra now is never buy a turbine from a manufacturer that I cant go and see easily and shake them warmly by the THROAT until satisfaction is gained. I have a Super sport and I am delighted with it. I will be shortly be buying either a Wren 160 or a Wren 200 ( if they ever realunch it as e true 40lb turbine). Mike

RE: Programming Dual Elevators
Hi Figured it out for myself. Just set the channel I had the other Elevator servo to Elevator not Elevator 2 and it worked a charm. I am guessing I only need to have it set to Elevator 2 if I need to have some reversing or throw modification independent to the Elevator channel. Four years I have been living with this beast and I am still learning. Mike

Programming Dual Elevators
Hi I am trying to program dual elevators servos on my 14MZ. I have managed to getting them working by having Elevator and Elevator 2 both set to the same stick and trim but when I go to set up dual rates I have to set up a seperate dual rate for Elevator 1 and Elevator 2. Which takes up four of my available dual rates. Is there another way to do it that is less hassle and only takes up only one set of dual rates instead of two? Mike

RE: Sebart Wind 110
Hi Interesting debate about the shrouds on the undercarriage. I don't think they do anything aerodynamically. I had a minor mishap with my Angel S one day out flying that resulted in one shround coming off. I decided to fly it expecting to have to put in some aileron to compensate for the missing shround. The plane needed nothing. I detected no trim change at all. So I would debate if they have that great an effect on the handling of the plane. But they do make the plane look alot more pleasing to the eye. I am toying with the idea of large wheels M

Motor calc program
HI I am running a Hacker A50-16L being driven by Hyperion 8S 5000mAH cells through a Hacker Master 80Amp ESC on a 18 x 10 prop in my Wind S and I would like to get an idea of the Max current draw etc I can expect from this set up, Can anyone point me towards a Online Calc program I can use. All the ones I have tried so far have given me non sensical answers. Mike

RE: Fast charging
Hi Woodie Your statement about Hyperions batteries is not strictly true. What Hyperion claim is that the Gen 3 batteries will hold up several time longer than equivalent cells on a similiar charging regime not no impact on longevity. In short if you hammer them they wont last as long but will last longer than other makes of cell. I have just bought four sets of packs for my Winds S and I dont intend charging them above 0.8C. ( To prolong my substancial investment) Other manufacturer have made similiar claims ( eg Flightpower) but so far Hyperion are the only company to have their claims independently verified. On a side note Hyperion are the only cells I have seen that are delivered in a custom made cardboard box with heavy padding inside. Not the cheap plastic bag most other manufacturers put their product into. Also the standard of construction of the packs is excellent. Much better than some other more expensive cells. Mike

RE: Behotec 180 and 180GE
Hi I have used Behotec retracts on my planes and are excellent quality. The biggest problem is getting hold of them. I live in the UK and I normally have to buy them from Altecare in Canada ( excellent serve BTW), which seems a bit crazy as they are a European company and I live in the UK. Getting stuff staight from Behotec is a nightmare as they dont take Credit Cards.( No 1 currency of the Jet community) and have some convoluted payment method. I would be tempted by one of there turbines but except for two problems. 1) How to buy it 2) How to get it serviced. But they do look very very good. Mike

Batery sparking
Hi Do people just put up with the Sparking that occurs when you connect the battery to the esc or do they do something about it( eg resistor fly lead or esc with anti spark). The 6s packs I normally fly are not to bad for sparking the 8s might be fun. Mike
