RE: Alibre - Simple tips tracing parts -> extruding in 3D?
I haven't used Alibre for a while but I think there is a tolerance setting for healing. If that does't work zoom in to the error and make the correction. Since you bought it you should have access to Alibre's forums. You may want to post your question there. Mike

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I was asking Mike James regarding the P-180's airfoil.

What airfoil will you use? I exchanged some emails with the designer of the airfoil and it's not available. Just wondering.

You might want to look back a few pages of posts, he might have passed the short kit production on to someone else. Usually, he has been pretty responsive.

RE: Importing airfoils into Solidworks
Here are two dxf files produced by Profili. You can readily find the coordinates of the NACA airfoils on the web. Rename the attached text files to have a 'dxf' suffix. I had to give them a different suffix so I could upload them. Mike

Looking for Polish Magazine for Yak-3
I'm trying to locate and purchase the following magazines: http://aukcja.onet.pl/show_item.php?item=294702618 http://aukcja.onet.pl/show_item.php?item=301044717 I don't speak/read Polish but it looks like I could purchase them from the above site. I'm a little reluctant to purchase from the above site because I can't read what I'm doing on the site. Does anyone know another place I could get these from? Thanks, Mike

Ran across another links with several images on it thought I'd post it. http://www.airwar.ru/enc/fww2/yak3.html and http://wunderwaffe.narod.ru/Magazine/AirWar/32/index.htm http://wunderwaffe.narod.ru/Magazine/AirWar/33/index.htm http://wunderwaffe.narod.ru/Magazine/AirWar/34/index.htm If you go to the bottom two links that will go to pages with drawings and images. For example, http://wunderwaffe.narod.ru/Magazine/AirWar/33/Draw/index.htm Just tried translating the text with googles translation tool. I might automate the translation of the pages and see what in them. Mike

RE: Russian Yak-3
Evil_Merlin, I'm aware of a few, which one's are you referring to? One set is from Roamin' Research (I think, spelling may be off) but I've never been able to find a set. As to reinventing the wheel, the reason I'm attempting to develop plans is for the challenge not necessarily because there are no plans available. Originally, I was going aiming at about 40" wingspan for an electric, but I've since doubled it. I will probably still do the 40" version just to work out some basic layout issues. I know there is a very big difference between a 40" and a 80" plane but some of the basic structure can be worked out on a smaller scale, I hope. Update: Just found the Roamin' Research Mig-3 plan on Ebay, tempting... Mike

RE: Russian Yak-3
I've sent both of you the files, approx 48 mb in 8 zip files. There may be some duplicates, I'm too lazy to check them all. Hisham, Did you ever finish the Mig-3? I originally was going to make the Mig-3 my first design/scratch build but it has a lot of detail especially at the front so I decided to go after the Yak-3/9 first. I still have a long way to go. RE: Need help w/TurboCad 2D -> 3D
That was the ticket. I needed to explode and then join the polyline. There were various problems as I check all of the ribs that I fixed as well. It's working much better now. Thanks for the help! Mike

Need help w/TurboCad 2D -> 3D
I've attached a TurboCad file that I saved with TC 11.2, I've added a .txt suffix so I could upload it. I originally drew the outlines, etc with QCad on linux and now I'm trying to create a 3D representation of the stab and it's not going well. I rotated all of the ribs on the Y axis to get them upright. I'm trying to loft the ribs but I can not select them. What am I doing wrong? Are the ribs not in the correct format? It seem like the ribs are not a 2d entity so I can't select them. How do I convert them to a 2d entity. I made the ribs blocks in QCad. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Mike

RE: Rollin' my own 50CC Yak 54
John, Would you be willing to give a small tutorial on how you created the formers? I'd especially be interested in how you came up with the shape of the former at the back of the cockpit, the one that is angled back. Do you create a shell and then take a cross section of the shell on an angle? Thanks, Mike

RE: Bezier vs Spline
So, what you're saying is that if I'm putting a design together that I may want to have laser cut. I should use more segments when making curves instead of trying to get the longest curved segment I can. Correct?

RE: Bezier vs Spline
Does the choice of using bezier or splines matter if you're going to be sending your design to a laser cutter? Do they have a preference? I though one type allowed for faster cut times. Mike

ceckardt, They are on their way. One thing I like about these is there are a couple additional fuse cross sections that other 3 Views don't have. Also, a lot of detail for the cockpit, landing gear and dimensions of the wing. Mike

RE: Tiny Airplane Power Setup
Thanks you for the comments. I took it out this morning and I'm still figuring out the setup. Unfortunately, I planted it and will have to do some repairs. Basicly, splittered the two middle formers. It's repairable and at least I figured out that the power setup is ok. These small electrics are pretty squirrelly, need a steady hand Mike

Tiny Airplane Power Setup
I've built a Tiny airplane from the plans and I'm a little concerned about the power system setup I am using. It weighs 8.7 oz RTF. I noticed on the plans it said 3.5-4.5 oz, but I have the optional wing tips so the wingspan is about 28". The power setup is 7.4v 900mah TP 10C battery Komodo 278 v1 motor wound with 13 turns of double strand 28 ga wire Wye termination Cool Running 25a ESC Prop is a GWS 9050 I'm concerned that I'm not going to have enough power/thrust to really fly the plane. Any suggestions? Should I go to a 3s battery? Change the prop? Change the # of turns? Go to 24 ga wire? I'm a little new to the electric stuff and am still trying to sort out all the options for winding the motor and mateing it with the correct prop. Thanks, Mike
