RE: NEW BUSA 1/3rd Scale Fokker Triplane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lucky Dog, These are killer photos of the BUSA Trip. It was great to see you and all the other familiar faces at HDP. Hope I can bring my better half next year, she would have loved it. Mike

RE: NEW BUSA 1/3rd Scale Fokker Triplane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CocoBear, This is just a general response after reading the exciting news about the 1/3 Triplane from BUSA Rarely I post anything here because it cuts into building time and I am major slow..... like Art:) I have a highly modified 1/4 BUSA Triplane on the bench for some time and everytime I look at it I wish it was 1/3rd. Mostly I just wanted to pop in to say "Merry Christmas"and thanks for the insight into scale competition. I'm still working hard not to over think it. For those who haven't met CocoBear.. His modeling skills and speed at completing models is truly astonishing. To others reading this...Another reason I don't post is I don't care for the "flaming" that takes place on these forums. It takes "0" amount of courage to say something negative from behind a computer screen, rarely constructive. I have been involved in modeling for many years, recently competing trying to learn the scale ropes. I have learned many valuable lessons and techniques from all of you, so here is a thought for the coming year 2012. Help a beginner.. Teach someone to fly... especially a youngster, they are the future of modeling. If this great hobby, sport, or however you classify it is to live and thrive and grow and continue to exist. "WE MUST ALL BECOME AMBASSADORS FOR MODEL AVIATION" Consider your words.. Do they build up or tear down? and lastly....Don't forget.... Scale Modeling is "Totally Subjective" (it just "is")) MERRY CHRISTMAS to all and Happy 2012 Mike Wartman Gray TN DawnPatrolPilots

RE: Balsa USA WWI Kit Poll
Hi Steve... We were introduced at the Nats this year.. although you probably don't remember... This poll was actually my first post here and yes I'd like to move it to the scale area. I'm a bonifide Fokker addict, but the SE5 is an appealing build. I would like to see BUSA do it in 1/3rd scale. I'm a bit torn between 1/4 and 1/3rd.. I like them both. Thanks for your input... we are going to make at least (1) Dawn patrol event next year. Chuck.. Thanks for your reply.. The Waco is one of my favorite biplanes.. she has some nice lines.. Mike

RE: Balsa USA WWI Kit Poll
Thanks for the quick input... John... The Alb is a beautiful plane.. Dave Johnson has a great set of plans in 1/4 and 1/3rd.. That big DVII of his is something to see too.[;)] Augie11.. I've been considering their DVIII for simplicity. I have some great pics of Kermits Week's plane. Know what you mean about 1/3rd scale. I've built (3) Pups... transport and storage issues.[&o] Flygilmore.. I'm working on a Triplane except I modified it to an F1. Its been framed so long that Mud dobbers built a home on it.[:D] Using some GTM products myself..Great stufff.. I agree check your plans[:@] Lets keep this thread moving... additional comments welcome Mike

Balsa USA WWI Kit Poll
Fellow Modelers... I am considering my next BUSA WWI kit build and I am looking for those with experience with these kits. Please take a moment to answer the following questions. 1) What is your favorite WWI Aircraft? 2) What is your favorite WWI BUSA kit? 3) Which BUSA WWI kit build did you enjoy the most? Why? 4) What scale do you prefer to build in? 1/3 1/4 1/6? I welcome additional comments. Thanks Mike

RE: The Blue Max
Red... I stand corrected.. :) Art.. If I recall correctly, the wind was up at the Mint Juelip but the winds in FL were different. I didnt have a wind speed indicator on hand but it was 20 knots and gusting. The 1/3 DVI that did a test flight was nearly re-kitted. There is a video on youtube, I will try to find the link. We are not sure if we are coming to the Mint Jueilp or going to Joe Nall. We are going to try to make Rhinebeck this year. Would love to come to the Dawn Patrol. Mike Here is a link to some more BlueMax photos. http://a04-b04.mypicturetown.com/P2PwebCmdController/picture Bank/share.html?cid=enUSSEMTRC&x=r%252AsfeN2ecU13Nfyx7U5 fb%253DXEtY2-HAg1XVxQHxtYPmma%252ALYuZ8xB%253DJZTBdDNK2zqh1s 0lxm3cWt1FvnB-SvZN5.B%253Dy0F%25250%2526.UM7O_Hoq9R3Ok%2526Z

RE: The Blue Max
Art, No problem. We met at the 09 Mint Juliep where the winds blew @ gale force too. I flew my Eindecker in Fun Scale and took it down to the Blue Max event. A top shelf good time. Mike Wartman Gray TN

RE: The Blue Max
Hello Everyone, The event was an absolute blast even though the weather didnt cooperate. Wind speeds were gusting to 20mph on Sun. My entries were in the BUSA class and the ARF+. Since we didnt get to fly, Kermit Weeks the Owner of Fantasy of Flight Museum took us on a behind the scene tour of his private collection of WWI aircraft. Also fired up his Fokker DVIII with the Oberusel engine. Just a WOW! experience. Those who missed it really missed an event that will surely become the TOP GUN of WWI. More pics to come.... Mike Wartman Gray TN PS.. Is that you Art Shelton??
