Bone head move with a 9c
What a bone head move I just pulled. Threw my Futaba 9c on the charger for a few hours. When I went to unplug it, it nearly burnt my fingers. Turns out I plugged in the 12v 7amp wall wart I use for my battery charger into the transmitter. Im sure it was close to going up in flames. I was using energizer rechargeable batteries and about 5 minutes after unplugging it and throwing the batteries on the ground outside, I hit them with a temp gun and they were 167 degs F. Good news is the transmitter still works, bad news is I cant fit the battery inside the transmitter due the the battery compartment and door melting out of shape. I have had bad luck with transmitters lately, I have a DX7 and a JR7202 both with backup errors and now a partally melted 9C.

RE: WACO YMF
Flew the Waco again on sunday, the flight went well but upon landing, the landing gear did a little split causing a prop strike throwing the waco back in the air and ending in a nose dive at about 40 degrees. the good news is there not much damage. The prop is broke and some of the balsa skin around the LG is a bit busted up. Here is a pic I took before the flight, I was planing on taking more after the flight but that didnt work out.

RE: WACO YMF
I will have to get some better pics, hopefully tommorrow if I can get to the field. The only reason for using the g38 is it was free. I recieved the Waco with a Magnum 1.20 wich is a bit big for my nitro fuel budget.

Flew my waco for the first time this morning. All went well, the g38 was happy to pull the waco across the sky. Still a bit nose heavy but not by much. Thanks for all the help.

RE: WACO YMF
It's coming along better than expected, recessing the firewall an inch worked out perfect for keeping the length the same. I installed a 12 oz tank from the front, I cut out the back of the fuel tank box but I am going to wait on making the mods needed to remove the tank until a need arises or I find the time. I still need to check the CG, fix the covering around the cowl, and get a proper prop before I send it skywards.

RE: WACO YMF
Thanks for all the advise, the g26 I was going to use turned out to be a g38. I didn't want to do to much surgery to the airframe but I don't want the engine to fall of either. I have taken the nose down to the inner fire wall (F4) its definitely not 1/4 inch, will it be ok if I glue some 1/4 inch ply to the front and tie it into the fuel tank box and engine rails and possible fiberglass it around the edge, or should I at this point figure out how to cut out whats there and replace it with 1/4 inch. I think the second option is better but its probably beyond my skills.

RE: WACO YMF
Thanks for the reply, The WACO was built as per the plans so its the firewall is 1/8 ply (F4-B) , 1" balsa, 1/8 ply (F-1). Are any options to strengthen the firewall from the front without doing surgery?

RE: WACO YMF
Hello from a new PICA WACO owner. I have searched all the prior post and these are the questions I still have. 1. What is the best way to remove the wing struts without breaking the balls off of the plastic tabs. 2. The plane came with a beam mounted Magnum 1.20 and I would like to mount a Zenoah G26. is the firewall strong enough to mount a gas motor directly to it? thanks for your help John
