RE: Elan Has Arrived!
When I get home and see a pile of notifications on the one thread, I know some kind of controversy has kicked up :) I dont want to buy into that, all I do want to say is that I have bought several jets over the last couple of years, all but one of them from Peter Agnew, and for good reason. I would never hesitate to buy from Peter. As an earlier post a day or so back said, his service and support is absolutely outstanding. On any issue that has arrisen (and lets face it, in this hobby issues DO arise) he has always gone WELL beyond anything I would expect to help. Aside from the airframes, I cant see myself getting anything other than a JetCat in future. Not because they are so standout better than anything else, but because Peter's support is standout better than anywhere else. No... I am not a close friend or relative - I've only met Peter face to face once as I live in Queensland - I am just a customer. With Peter though "just" a customer is a term he would never use. As for the Elan... I have many flights on mine over the last couple of years. The kit quality was, I have to say, poor, particularly for the money. No showstoppers though, and nothing that we in this hobby are not used to having to deal with. That said, once I got it in the air all was forgiven - it is such an easy, beautiful jet to fly, and if (heaven forbid) it met it's end, I'd definitely get another one regardless of the build issues. Cheers, Colin Allen

Great stuff Shane... I'm thinking of doing out my large Skymaster Hawk in S-Bus, and it's been good to read your testing. I'm picking up my shiny new 18MZ on Monday, and the integration with S-Bus from that unit will be interesting to play with. Cheers, Colin

Your Tucano is looking fantastic Jan. Engine started beautifully first time. Your attention to detail has made for a fantastic looking Tucano and a beautifully neat and effective internal install, many ideas from which I am shamelessly borrowing for mine! Cheers, Colin

RE: Jetcat 180RX
Hi Geoff... I was primarily basing my experience on the P120SX I've got in another plane, which uses a 2s LiPo of course. With the 3s it would have a lower current draw. 500mAH per flight, including the start (it was the starts I found that really amped up the consumption), sounds pretty good. I'm all for not using a bigger battery than necessary.

RE: Jetcat 180RX
ORIGINAL: Geoff White Hi Colin, Although you have the option to use a 2s lipo, 3s lipo, 3s A123 or 5 cell Nicad/Nimh. We have found that the starting is definately more postive and quicker with one of the 3s batteries. Jetcat supply a 3S lifeP04 battery which I tried but quite frankly I found it absolute junk and so did Mark(voltage collapsed on startup). In fact, the vendor of the engine sent me a new battery as we were both convinced the original was faulty but the replacement was just as bad. Consequently, I decided to swap to a 3S lipo as I have never had any issues with them and of course they are the lightest solution. Geoff.
Thanks Geoff... I havent fired mine up yet, but I'll do the same. The supplied battery (which I had not even noticed was 3s, how unobservent of me!) is a 2100 (which I did notice!) and somewhat inadequate in a kero start engine anyway.

RE: Jetcat 180RX
Good to hear Geoff... my only question is what is the benefit of running the ECU on a 3s lipo? I assume due to the higher voltage the current draw is less, but you've got more weight in the battery anyway.

RE: Jetcat 180RX
I just fired up the ECU on my new 180RX and it is V10.1Q. I've seen the discussion on V10.1 as the one that fixes the lag issue (whew... relief I have that!), but anyone know what the "Q" is about? I take it from not getting any responses on the problem with me getting a German manual that nobody has a PDF of the English one? My 180 is going into a large Skymaster Hawk... should be awesome!

If it is there, it is very well hidden! It's not in the manuals section, or on the page on the 180RX.

RE: Composite ARF Tucano Build
Let's not forget that C of G position is very much personal preference. Some people prefer a more forward C of G, others more rearward. What one pilot sees as the "perfect" C of G might be anything but for another. The fact that amongst the experienced pilots here, some are flying it at the wing bolt and find it great, and yet others are flying it forward of that and are equally happy (after trying both) attests to that. There is not a right or wrong here. If Jan generally flys his aircraft forward of factory recommended settings (and I know Jan, he has been flying jets for many, many years and has more experience than most of us will ever get, and is an excellent pilot), then his request for the balance point with 12oz in the nose is well founded, for his particular style. Hopefully someone can reply with the requested information :-)

Yep... a JetCentral Cheetah with 14kg. Very responsive engine. You'll see in the video a low slow pass at near idle, with full power put on right near the end of the low pass and the vertical performance was awesome. It is a sweet engine.

RE: Composite ARF Tucano Build
Nice scheme! That thought has definitely crossed my mind too, but I did want to go for something military. The underside is quite light so there is decent contrast between most of the the top and the underside which will assist with orientation. I guess that is always the issue with camouflage schemes - they are designed in the first place to blend! I agree, it will be difficult on a cloudy day. I have never done a camouflage scheme on a jet up until now for that very reason, but I figured if ever there was a jet to have to deal with that issue on it is this one, as it is big, relatively not that fast (compared to my other jets anyway), and easy to fly.

Hey Shane... thanks for the tip, I'll definitely do that! Sounds like you did a great job saving the prop. They are not cheap. I ordered mine a while back from Engel - it's been sent, but I'm still waiting. Probably taking longer due to the Christmas mail go slow. Not much to photograph yet - I ordered the plain grey version as I'm doing a custom scheme. The attached photo is what it will end up looking like. I havent taken it out of the box yet - just finishing up another aircraft and a bit of maintenance on my Ultra Flash and then I'll be right into it next week.

After a false start a while back due to a faulty fuel solenoid, followed by heavy work commitments, I finally got to maiden my UF this weekend. Here's some video of it.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKLYdFpO6G4 All good... only minor trim adjustments needed. The UF performed beautifully! Just an iPhone video, and it overexposed a large chunk of it, but you get the idea. This plane is.seriously.FAST!

RE: Large Skymaster Hawk build
Just ordered P180RX for my Hawk. This seems to be the replacement for the P160...40lb thrust compared to 36lb on the P160SX at the same price using the new single fuel and data lines, integrated valves and smaller ECU like the 140RX. Should go very nicely! Only problem is the wait... 14-16 weeks :( Still, I can can get everything else done on the plane while I'm waiting, plus I have a turboprop on the go too. I get withdrawal symptoms if I'm not building "something" :) Peter... I'm pretty sure they are factory hinged, but hopefully someone who actually has received theirs can chime in! Jan... I'll be interested in the answer on the lights, as I got the full scale lighting kit for mine too (in fact, it's the only part of the plane I've actually received so far!)
