RE: 3 1/2 Mini Ultra Stick Rebuild
Guess who is going to have another MUS? I'm trading my Extra 260 for one. This will make the 5th MUS and my 6th Ultra Stick. I think I may have a problem. [sm=spinnyeyes.gif]

RE: 3 1/2 Mini Ultra Stick Rebuild
I was just looking on Horizon's website. The MUS is down to $109?! My Extra 260 is down to $120?! What the bleepy, bleep, bleep happened there?! My original MUS was $130 and my Extra was $160. When did they do this? I do see that they didn't do it for the replacement parts though. If they are going to lower anything, it needs to be that!

RE: 3 1/2 Mini Ultra Stick Rebuild
Ok good news, I got accepted into college at the last minute! So the rebuild has been put off for a few weeks. I promise to start rebuilding soon! Faissal, you will have your plane by the middle of September at the latest. I just have to make the firewall and the front former, after that, it's all straight forward and the fuse can be down within an hour.

RE: 3 1/2 Mini Ultra Stick Rebuild
[quote]ORIGINAL: WestCoastFlyer Yes everything is fine after spending another couple of nights in a big Maple tree this time. The local economy is doing quite well due to my contributions to professional tree climbers. [/quote] Good to know you're doing your part lol. Faissal's MUS actually is starting to look like one now. I made some "upgraded" formers as he likes to have "landing adventures" lol. I just hope it will help. I also went and cut out new sides to get ready for the new front formers and firewall. My plan to encourage myself to work on his plane a little faster is to not to work on the .25 till his is to the same stage. We shall she how long it last.[:D]

RE: 3 1/2 Mini Ultra Stick Rebuild
Not any trouble at all. Although please excuse my camera phone pics, like the rest of all of them, they are a little burry and I'm too lazy to open up photoshop. The guy who gave me all of the MUSs originally said he didn't want one back. That all changed once I showed him this thread, the .25 MUS, and the finished .15. He was more astonished how I built something out of what he gave me. I didn't think it was that big of deal, it's a MUS, you can't kill them really. Sorry to hear that yours spent the night in the trees again, hope everything is fine now. Now for the pics of the .15. Her covering job is not the best. I was covering her when I was lacking funds, so I used every single piece of scrap covering I had, so she looks like crap. If you look at closely at the fuel tank, that red area below it is the battery. It went under where the old battery tray was. That's how I had it set up since it was electric. It really helps with the CG and is a perfect fit. The interior pic shows the various little servos and my little Berg receiver that survived being soaked with glow fuel from a previous maidening attempt, see [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_8758351/mpage_2/key_/tm.htm#]post #43[/link]. On the tail you can see the upgraded pushrods and control horns and a top section of the tail wheel elastics. But alas, this one was built on a budget of what I had, so it doesn't incorporate all the stuff that the .25 has going for it. It just has partial control surface and fuse doubling. I didn't have the funds to buy wood at the time. All in all, she is still a great flyer. The extra weight really helps with the sink rate when landing, it just makes it fun. On an interesting note, I got complements a few days ago when I was flying in 18 mph winds from a few 30%+ guys on how well it flew and my landings in strong gusts, let alone a cross wind that they wouldn't attempt to land in. I just smiled and said "that's my baby" and "learning to fly in Corpus Christi certainly had something to do with it". Anyway she's out of commission till I order a part for the carb. Stupid me forgot to put the flaps back up after I was done flying. She lifted right off of the prep table when I stepped away and slammed backwards on the cement and sheared off the fuel needle assembly. At least I was done flying for the day, it just wasn't how I wanted to end it. WestCoastFlyer, there's nothing wrong with rambling or being like a broken record, I just did! Edit: I just noticed my wheels are crooked, I guess I need to fix that tomorrow. [8|]

RE: 3 1/2 Mini Ultra Stick Rebuild
So today, well yesterday now, I flew the prototype again. That little bugger hauls! Even with the 13mph winds! I believe it's actually faster than my 60 Ultra Stick. This has really started to make me wonder how fast this 25 one will be. I do have to say with the extra weight, it's a real nice flyer. So yeah though, I didn't work on it today, however Faissal, the guy who gave me all of these, would like me to rebuild one for him, so I started on that today instead. I saved what I could from epoxy and water damage hell on the fuse. Not much left....... But it has push rod guides and triangular strips now! :D Oh and the wing isn't as bad as the one i fixed a few post ago.

RE: 3 1/2 Mini Ultra Stick Rebuild
Battery was shot unfortunately. When I plugged it into the receiver, there was no power. It was the same after I tried charging it. I'm glad you have had better luck than me.

RE: 3 1/2 Mini Ultra Stick Rebuild
Well I guess that's true. The receiver did work, in fact my prototype MUS that had it in it flew today for the first time! I actually think it flies better now then when it was electric. The 15 size engine surprisingly had enough oomph to fly it around the sky. I have to say it's officially my favorite plane to fly :D

RE: 3 1/2 Mini Ultra Stick Rebuild
I've had a similar experience, except it was 40 ft in a birch tree with broken MUS scattered all through out. Anyway I've made some progress through the days. The wing has had its final sanding and is ready for covering. I had to redo one side of the wing tips, I sanded it a tad too much. Anyway I've chopped up some music wire to make control rods. I've also tried to maiden the newly converted MUS that I've been working on for a while now on the side. Well it didn't fly. I had a fuel tank leak that ruined my battery and hopefully not my new receiver (fingers still crossed). Then an hour later the same thing happend to my 60 size one. I did however save the electrics this time.

RE: 3 1/2 Mini Ultra Stick Rebuild
Wing is DONE! I fixed the center section rib and re-sheeted it, although I didn't take a pic. On the wing tips, in an effort to give them more rigidity, I drilled holes and inserted tooth pics where ever it made contact with the rest of the wing. You may think it doesn't to much, but it's night and day. Especially once the CA cures. The wing is currently waiting for the filler to dry for the final sanding. Then we will be ready for covering :D. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I still need to get rods for the ailerons though and order a smart stripe since my LHS didn't have one in stock. More to come as usual.

RE: 3 1/2 Mini Ultra Stick Rebuild
Hmm they do look a lot like mine. Those I have decided are going on the rudder where the flat ones are going on the elevator. The ones going on the rudder are a PAIN to install. It's quite hard to get a good fit. The flat ones are quite the opposite and I love them now, I will love them more though when they are permanently glued in . I think once the hinges are glued in place I am going to get some hinge tape to try to reduce the gaps a little, I mean what harm can it do? -Did I just jinx myself? Anyway I'm making a trip to the LHS to get a few things to that I need to get it finished, namely one of these: www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p to finish off the covering. Anyone had any experience with them?

RE: 3 1/2 Mini Ultra Stick Rebuild
So tonight I covered the tail feathers to get them ready for hingeing. I also went ahead and reebforced the dowel area of the wings for the bigger dowels I plan on installing. Once that was done, I sheeted that area and is currently drying with some filler on the joints. Oh which hinges should I use for the rudder and elevator? I am NOT using CA hinges on the tail. I will however use those on the wing.

RE: 3 1/2 Mini Ultra Stick Rebuild
So I hooked up the throttle servo today and started the engine. I had a pleasant surprise, NO FLEXING! My goal was accomplished! Now if I can just get the engine to stay running.... Anyway here's a pic of the servo area. I had to change my mounting idea because the servo kept flexing because of it's rubber mounts, which means I will have to change it everywhere[:@]. *Sigh* oh well part of the fun of this hobby right?

RE: Young Pilots Forum
I just turned 17. I've been flying since I was about 13. I learned to fly on the dreaded Nexstar. I never crashed it till someone tried to "help" me fly it. That was a mistake. Anyway, I an now working on my mini fleet of [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_8758351/anchors_8877734/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#8877734]MUS's[/link] and fly an ultra stick 60. I also have a CG Extra, the Nexstar (now a photo plane in the works), a Sig Liberty Sport my grandpa build back in the 70s, a dragon lady, a 27% Sukhoi kit, E-flite Extra 260 3D, and one other I'm sure I'm forgetting. Almost all of my planes have been gifts, which I've been lucky in receiving[:D]

RE: 3 1/2 Mini Ultra Stick Rebuild
I got nothing accomplished today. I just glued on a basswood mounting point, sheeted the elevator (1/32" balsa) and (of course) ran out of sheeting. Hobby lobby closes at 8, I got there at 8:05[sm=sleeping.gif]. Bright side I finally got hired for a job at an architectural firm doing drafting stuff. Funny how I can get hired there, but sonic won't even return my phones calls?! Oh and I ordered about $300 worth of stuff from tower to complete my fleet, servos, wheels, etc. That should be in by next friday.
