RE: Airsail Piper PA 38 Tomahawk II
HI Brian...if you need any help just post on here...I did a few mods to mine to get it close as scale. Having rebuilt 5 fullsize Tomahawks my eye was picking out fine detail on the model during the build that was not quite scale. Taking measurements off the full size would go home and change. This is not a hard kit to build. In fact I would love to build another and I might just do that one day. I had a chance to get together with the kit builder and deccussed some of the items that where not scale and he hoped to do a few changes with later kits.[ not sure if that happened or not.] Yes I really love flying mine and having 14 aircraft of my own this is my favourate. I have a few hrs up flying the full size and the model performs just as they do, even down to the tail wagg when cruising to fast. will be keeping a watch here. cheers Graeme

RE: HELP!!! Robart 650 Retracts
when I did mine I dissmantled the strut,[watch that you dont lose the very small C clip on the oleo arm torque link] make sure the top of the robo tube has no burrs, then sit the adaptor in nice and straight put the unit in a small press or large vise and very gently push the adaptor into the tube.

RE: Airsail Piper PA 38 Tomahawk II
Sorry the airsail kit is 72 in or 1.8 m w/s There has been quite a number of these kits made and built Mine first flew on october 2004 and it has done around 150 flights since then. Build it nice and straight and it will fly perfect. I have never has any problems with the plane and it looks just as good now as when first built. weight is 9 lb and power is a OS46 la...Just the right amount of power for take off and cruise flight. As for landing this plane is just so stable with full flap right to touch down . I have flown mine in 25 kt winds and the bit of extra weight has been an advantage.

Will be keeping an eye on this...here is my Royal Zero snr.built over a time frame of 21years. been flying for 12 months now and it flys absolutely superb 10.5 lbs and Super tiger 61 A lot of work and as already stated the instructions are one page of next to nothing.

RE: Spring Air Retracts - Opinions Welcome
Yes I have spring air in my Zero ..It is 65in w/s and 10.5 lbs..have robart oleos and scale robart wheels all work very good. would be happy to use them again on another scale model. I like the idea of all ways having wheels down if you loss all the air. Put a restricter in the line to help slow the system down to more scale like.

RE: Pre-flight and log book
Have done preflights on all my planes over the last 30 years. just exactlly as we do in full size. Also have logs books and I can tell you every thing about all my 13 A/C. all maintenance ,battery times, battery life and hours that are flown My last entry shows over 600 hours. on glow and quite a few on e power. It is very handy having a good record of history.

RE: Royal Kits
Hello Eric....My Zero comes out at 10.5lbs ready to fly..Power is a Super tiger 61 with a custom built exhaust system that I made so as to fit into the cowl. I also have engine baffles to help with coolling and they seem to work fine so far. This power set up provides hugh power and speed..I was very surprised at the top end speed of my Zero. Have had a bit of a read through your postings ,what is the problem with your Zero.? Mine had a hugh wing twist from building and sitting for so long. I even had all the plane glass skinned, but kept putting it off because every time I looked at it the twist just would not go away. One day I was taking a twist out of a full size A/c wing at work and suddenly though why dont I do this to my Zero. So a bit of head scratching and built up a wing jig and cut the bad wing open and set to work. Over period of 3 months reskinned and glassed and I am really glad I went ahead and did this. If this is your problem I can show you how I went about this...Unfortunately I dont have any pics. Mine has Spring air retracks and robart oleos and wheels. It is a realy awesome machine and looking forward to getting out again. cheers Graeme

RE: Center of Gravity contraption
You are correct in that the cg does move when the attitude of the a/c is nose high or nose low. The c/g does NOT remain constant regardless of attitude. When a Full size A/C is having the weight and balance done to determine the cg ,the a/c has to be in the flying position as it would be when trimmed and flying straight and level. [this is in the manufactures spec] If you change that positon then the c/g also changes. This is what you are seeing on your machine. Beleive what it says and balance your plane with that ..I have one and it is very accurate in determining the c/g ... cheers.

RE: Dave Platt Zero Makeover
HI capt..this is pretty good stuff,as I am up to the same stage on my Zero. need to ask a question.....Do you leave the silver ali tape on the plane or remove after you have painted over it. From looking at the pics there seems to be just a hint of a lip around this area. cheers good work.

RE: Sheeting Foam Wings with ordinary brown paper.
Yes I have ..about 15 years ago a friend and I built 5 planes all with foam fuse and wings and covered with brown paper...we had a couple of 40 size and a 60 size in the fleet and the sysem worked a treat...It turned out light and strong and all planes flew really well. after the finishing was done you would not know the difference to any other covering. We used thinned white glue and just the ordinary rapping brown paper. Remember you can get different weights of paper. A guy by the name of chris Gold in the UK has used this system on a lot of his models.....cheers

RE: how to correct twist in sheeted/glassed stab?
A bit of heat on a glass surface will work .. but remember you have to move the wood underneath which has the twist and it is the hard part. You will need to mount the fin and put on some opposite twist and leave. I have the same problem at the moment with my Zero ..One wing had 3 deg to much wash out after sitting for 19 years.I cut a section out of the bottom of the wing ,which took the wood stress out, made up a mounting jig and put the wing in with the correct twist and now ready to recover. My wing was all painted and glassed as well. It can be done but needs a bit of work...cheers

RE: Help me figure out this mechanical advantage in the servos
I would have to say that the first pic shows the arm at a very off set angle..Not sure if this is helping much, Those ball joints are working to the max here..better to have a longer arm and less angle on the balls. You can achieve this by putting the servo further from the aileron and making the push rod longer ...Not sure if this is possible on your plane. To get the same throws on both sides some times I have to use different holes on the servos. I certainly would not use the red line as the ball joint would be at extreme angle, and might even jam. balls are not meant to work in the position. A little bit of experimenting is needed here.

RE: NEW Float Design - What do you think?
Sorry guys if I missed your point..the design does work very well as I know from experence and experimenting. I am also a keen water plane flyer, and before I even started my floats I spend heaps of time on these forums sorting all the info from guys like yourselves. All my problems where solved even before I hit the water. I to often feel the same as Jim casey, that if people just read these forums before they posted their[sometimes dumb ] questions then their problems would be all over ,as it is guys like yourselves that have sorted all the bugs out of float flying and posted the info for all to use. enough said..have fun

RE: NEW Float Design - What do you think?
Dont know that you can claim it as a new design. A single float and out riggers have been around a while. .But they are very good on the water and I enjoy flying my plane with that set up. There are a few flying boat designs set up like you have there. Yes they could well be a winner...Keep up the good work.

Yes you are right, it could be fun on the test flight. might get a cheap set and do some static tests ..... might even be surprised how strong they are. nothing ventured ..... nothing gained. no other ideas or thought out there///////[sm=cry_smile.gif]
